  1. I've heard that it might be general admission but the tickets I got Friday were for the "orch pit" and had rows+seats. The orch pit as they call it though is actually the main section w/seats at Chastain... which is quite huge. The view of the stage and sound will be great even from the lawn though, lets all just pray for good weather!

  2. I went ahead and tabbed out the last 9~ minutes of the song for you:

    e |======================|

    B |======================|

    G |======================|

    D |======================|

    A |======================|

    E |======================|

    Just repeat that measure several dozen times after the intro.

  3. The reasons You are my face and Hate it here are proving themselves to be fan favorites thus far is most likely because those are the only parts that show some real flourishes of interest on the album. The rest is just so monotonous... for me, it's so mellow as to be aggravating... I just keep itching for them to mix it up a bit and throw in some crunch, and besides from those aformentions sections, theres not much relief to be had. I find it frustrating.

    To me it seems like so much of this album is an experiment in how little noise 6 guys can make... Though it provides some interesting results, considering the talent of each member, it seems to me to be mostly just wasteful.

    Wilco is not a noise band, and simplicity in music is definitely not a bad thing. Not that the songs are even that simple if you really listen to everything that is going on in them.

  4. Sky Blue Sky sounds kind of like Far Far Away because the first few notes of the riff in SBS are the same as the beginning of the solo in Far Far Away. Other than that the songs are quite different. *shrug*

  5. You guys do realize that Nels has played a lot of styles other than jazz (like... every other style) over the course of his career. And its not like he plays exclusively jazzy stuff on SBS, which is what I was afraid of.

  6. It'd be nice if people would stop trying to compare and contrast the different iterations of Wilco's sound and, well, band members as well. Their catalogue is what it is and all of the songs represent solid musicianship. That said, Nels Cline does a great job on all the songs. I was somewhat worried that a lot of his guitar work would have the same kind of sound. But luckily I was quite wrong - his playing is all spectacular, whether its a supporting riff or an all out solo. You can't compare his playing to that of Jay Bennett. Nor can you really compare how much either guitarist added to the band at the time. They both have lended great musical talent to Wilco.

  7. Wow I never thought I'd see Wilco compared to Yes and the Doobie Brothers. I can understand not liking the album but are you sure we're listening to the same thing?

  8. There were a lot of pleasant surprises all around. I was slightly worried that a lot of Nels solos and misc guitar work would sound similar but he has proven he can tackle pretty much any kind of sound. He does a great job with "Please Be Patient With Me" for example.

    I love the studio cut of Impossible Germany, Nels really gets to show off. The biggest surprise might be the piano and organ work. All the new members of the band really show their worth on this album.

    I didn't like Walken at first, its not as high-energy as some of the live performances I've seen. But after listening to the entire album I think its fitting and a good treatment of the song.

    I didn't expect to like "On and on and on" but its really grown on me, as has Either Way. Sky Blue Sky, Side With the Seeds are both excellent too.

    Hated What Light when I saw it live with the band and just Jeff solo but the album version is slightly better. The only song I don't really like is "Shake It Off" so far. The rest are excellent :)

  9. I'm also waiting patiently for "In A Future Age." What a killer performance :)

    In the mean time I've figured out how Jeff plays "A Family Gardiner" for Scott McCaughey (its in one of the intros right after Satan your kingdom must come down):

    Its capo 5, the chords are:

    some sort of modified G, don't know the exact name

    e-0

    B-3

    G-0

    D-0

    A-2

    E-3

    Anyway we'll call this G*.

    The chords go G* -> Bm -> G* -> C/G (332010) -> regular G (320033) -> F -> G*

    You should be able to figure out how the chords are picked through by watching the DVD. He does something a little different with the G* though that is worth tabbing:

    e|------0-----0-----0------------------
    B|--------3-----3----------0-----------
    G|----------0-----0----0h3---0---------
    D|-0-0---------------------------------
    A|-2-2---------------------------------
    E|-3-3---------------------------------

    Verses go like this:

    (G*) The family garden is a special place

    In sun and shade there, (Bm) I was raised

    (G*)Voices fade away and (C/G)rooms are rearranged

    (G)Now I'm the family (F)gardiner (G*)

    If anyone knows what the ending chords to the song are please let me know.

    Thought I'd mention that One by One is played capo 5 also, intro chords G F Em C. On the DVD Jeff adds a somewhat fancy element to the song that makes it sound really good - hes sounding the B string harder while strumming the chords. For the G and C chords he is pulling off the B string before changing to the next chord. Sounds awesome to me.
