  1. Nickelback, Maroon 5, Bryan Adams, Goo Goo Dolls, Our Lady Peace, Matchbox 20, Molly Hatchet.

Thankfully, they've made better selections in recent years, but you could argue this in either direction.

Shall we continue thie tiresome game? I vote no.

With 38 Special and the Johnny Van Zant Band." - Patterson Hood

  2. I'll brave MSG again to see Wilco and Neil, even though it's such a crappy music venue. My only hope is Wilco gets to play a good long time. Personally, I'd much rather see Neil open for Wilco.

As a die hard Wilco fan I will say this should not or will not ever happen. Wilco would probably agree. Neil is a legend and still puts on an awesome show. I'm sure they consider it an honor to open for him.

  3. First of all, I thought the first thing you said was funny.

Secondly, I agree with you. If that many people were into Wilco enough to know the sing-alongs, Wilco would probably be playing arenas. Neil has way many more fans. A lot of them are the same. A portion of the difference are older folks, probably balding hippies.

And I hope I can get to one of these, but it will be weird to see Wilco in an arena.

EDIT: This got moved down so to clarify, I agree with Sarchi.

I saw wilco sell out the Agganis arena in Boston. Not saying they are at Neil's level of course but I think they are pretty well known and a good amount of Neil fans are probably Wilco fans.

  4. Lol, I crossed it a few years ago. You take things too seriously.

But really, if you think more than 5-10% of a NY audience is gonna know Wilco's songs, I think you're in for a surprise. And the thought of it is depressing to me. YMMV.

Funny just about all my friends who love Wilco love Neil too. I'd say your estimate is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. I just saw Neil at a theater in Boston on his last tour and the audience was not that much different than a Wilco crowd.

  5. Worcester is known for getting all the heavy metal shows and dark bands. Its where people play after they play Boston a bunch. I'm not a fan of going there but I'll make the trip for Neil/wilco.

  6. Worcester. The shows in Worcester but it's in parentheses? I don't think I've seen that before. Not that Worcester is that great of a city anyway.

I actually prefer the DCU center to the Banknorth. The Banknorth sucks as a venue.

What I don't get is that on half the articles i've read they don't mention this show. Its on Neils site tour page but not listed in the presale info. DCU center has nothing about it. WTF? I want tix to this.

  7. It's on Everest's site (the other band on the three-band lineup) so it should be official. Weird it's not on wilco's site yet.

Is that what they're calling the Centrum nowadays?

Yeah DCU center. Its not Boston but i'll go. It makes sense, I saw Neil in boston not too long ago and he's playing the Comcast Center for Farm Aid in Sept. I hope the date is legit.

  8. personally, I hate his music (with the expection of some of that Massey Hall album and On the Beach), but it goes beyond that. I feel like if you're still kind of (relatively) an up-and-coming rock band getting more mainstream attention, the last person I'd want to go on tour with is Neil Young. Why? a) he's just another aging boomer relic who is pulling out the "rares" in order to wow the audience that grew up on his hits while simultaneously egging on your overzealous critic fans to give you more praise than you deserve. B) Each member of your band can singlehandedly outperform him and has made better records on their bad days than this guy's best days. however, due to the novelty fact that "he's freaking Neil Young!" you'll never be given the credit ('you' being Wilco) you really deserve.

I mean, come on, to be fair, I don't like Neil Young but I think we could all agree here Wilco puts him out of business in terms of actual showmanship. His songs, not that he can help it, are either given a folk rock or grunge rock treatment and they never are given the room to breath life. Whereas, you have a band like Wilco, with two superhuman musicians and probably the most likable singer-songwriter in his age group playing songs of more dense emotional (okay, opinion) and musical (this however I feel is fact) complexities-- the craftsmanship of the mentioned bringing a tight yet spaced out sound. I feel like Wilco going on tour with that guy is Wilco not giving themselves enough credit. Yeah, he's Neil Young, but you're doing now what he did yesterday in terms of making contemporary, fresh, new sounding music. You're not recycling as much as your contemporaries are, the music you make is as new now is his was then. You should be the ones on stage, you can't help it that the music business has (for the most part) aged more intelligently than him and you get overlooked.

don't get me wrong. if you wanna go see Neil Young, go see Neil Young. But everyone should be going ape over getting to see him open for Wilco, not the other way around. I'm sure I'm the only one that feels this way, I'm sure I sound backwards to probably 99% of the people here.

    Seriously??? I'm speechless.

I don't know where I would start with that post. Its off base on about every subject mentioned.

Someone needs a lesson in music history.

  9. Highly Suspicious was one of the highlights for me at Radio City friday. The whole show was just awesome but people were dancing in the ailses to this one.
