My turn for Jeff's book signing tour in Cinci!

Thanks all... it's been a really fun year. that 1998 streak is really something tho.

What was your mission?
50 shows in the year after I retired (which was 12/4/17). The hiatuses(?) aligned, so not a single Wilco show on my list!!
-
Nice work young man!!! So Jeff will make 51....unless your crashing some local dive in Lexington tomorrow night for an 80's cover band just to pad your numbers.
aw shucks .... thanks man. No, I'm not counting Friday (3 songs??? nah.... ). But I am certainly not opposed to latter idea, and I do think I'll get a couple more shows before my deadline (12/4).

Aaron Lee Tasjen. #50... mission accomplished!
-
And Darin Gray (touring member of Tweedy band) just tweeted that “we” will be playin with Jeff on the show tonight.
And I believe that Spencer is with them... so I think it’ll be a Tweedy reunion!!

Kansas. I fully expect to be transported back to my bedroom as a 14 year old.

They’ve gone for the obvious issue as an excerpt, but I like what I read in terms of general style, a lot more lucid detail than I was expecting, etc.
P.S. “Suppository”
heavy stuff there.

Yeah I get that, and have read some terrible memoirs in the past from rugby players done that way. It just seemed that if the book took 2 years to come together as JT has said then I imagined (backed up by what I perceive as the work ethic he applies to making music) that it might indeed be more his effort than anyone else's and involved more than stitching together some transcripts, but I would like to hear definitively what the real situation was/is.
I would expect that exact question to come up in at least one of the upcoming book tour sessions.
Can I quote you on that one, sir?

Masseduction by St. Vincent.
Freudian slip?
Certainly could have been. But the original album was called "Masseduction" (as in mass seduction), the same as one of the tracks. And the re-release was called "Masseducation". Apparently she bought the extra "a". The track on the new release is still called masseduction, fwiw.
I still can't look at the album cover without thinking of one of the answer cards from Cards Against Humanity which is "Tasteful sideboob".
-
It wasn't anticipated, or even known about (at least by me), but I am really loving this new version of Masseduction by St. Vincent.
It's all vocals out in front of a lone piano. Awesome. Had it on repeat since Friday.
-
Will it fit in the trunk?

I have only recently discovered Calexico, and I am smitten. "The Thread That Keeps Us" gets a top spot on my Best of 2018 list.
I'm also newly on board. They're a blast live!

As many of you know.... see my avatar... I've been toting around a big sign that says "BULL BLACK NOVA" to shows for the past few years, as I really, really like the song. It's become something of a "thing", and I've had a lot of fun with it both at shows and on FB (check #bullblacknova if you're bored). There don't seem to be many signs at Wilco shows, so Jeff typically notices it, and usually gives me a headshake "no" (like a pitcher to a catcher for a pitch he doesn't want to throw). I've been called out for "chicanery" for stuffing the online ballot box (guilty).. and for having a bad case of "song monogamy" (guilty). But hey, it's all just fun and a way to really engage in the show and demonstrate my immaturity in public. I have done a couple other signs too, like the Hiatus Schmiatus sign in bright green at the last St Paul show. I've even scribbled out a "WILL TRADE NOVA FOR HOODOO" sign during a show after Nova got a Nope. Yeah, I'm that guy.
So, I had already heard the story that malvarmas above referenced about this "mystery person" who shows up in random places with the "hate will save the dolphins" sign (who btw is totally NOT me... Jeff referred to him as a "kid" so that lets me out) at an earlier Jeff show. So I had this grand idea for a new mash-up sign which I thought would be good for a chuckle and some good banter. Or at least a groan and a good dismissive headshake. Fortunately I was in the second row so close enough for him to see it even with the bright in-the-face stage lighting, and it did get us a fun little story. Not sure if I'll ever get to use a "BULL BLACK NOVA WILL SAVE THE DOLPHINS" sign again, but sure glad it got one good use. And well, you never know!
The rendition of Nova in Seattle was stunning as always. The intensity on the outro blows me away. In Vancouver the night before, he flubbed the first lyric line, which I'd never seen him do before. As bbop said, he seemed a lot more in the zone in Seattle than in Vancouver.
Great recap bbop as always. I certainly thought the vibe was better in SEA than VAN. It reminded me a little of a Vic charity show, where all of us diehards hang out on the sidewalk and then scurry down the aisle for the coveted pit seats. The low folding-chair seats and high stage give you that same crook-neck feeling too. Standing for the encore was a lot like a seventh inning stretch.
Other fun moments of the evening - as Jeff was bantering on a bit long, he glanced to the side of the stage and said something like "I see our tour manager over there starting to give me a worried look... I'm expecting to get a big white hook any moment now", and then did a little sidestep move like he was being yanked from the stage. There was an early shout-out for Jesus, etc, which got a reply of "you're too early... by about an hour and ten minutes" or something like that. He also had to don his Sunday school teacher hat once again and explain the whole Noah's ark story to us, noting that we don't seem to be very familiar with that one and that "it's in the Bible".
It really was a great show. I love the GA format where being down front means you're going to be with the Wilco family who truly want to be there and love the music. Great seeing friends old and new.

Absurdly long link to a pic of the sign... can't seem to actually post the pic of the sign.

Apparently only people in the British Isles (which are like 10 hours ahead of where we are now) even bother to read these things...✌️
untrue sir.
oh, and hope to see you tomorrow on a sidewalk somewhere in Canada!
Don’t worry, there’s no way it’ll live up to the hype.
you never know. slow news day today, right?

I'm so relieved that these new songs that Jeff has been playing are going to be on a Jeff Tweedy record and not Wilco. Does anyone else feel this way?
I thought about that notion (Wilco vs solo) as the new songs were dribbling out in his solo shows this year, and my conclusion was "not really".
Certainly the solo performances sound like they'd make for a great solo record, but then again all of the Wilco songs sound like that when he plays solo. I was thinking about songs like IATTBYH, Spiders, Bull Black Nova (duh), Art of Almost, IG... the ones that sound totally unique acoustic solo, like a demo. So that got me thinking about how these recent songs would sound all fleshed out with the band, and I was getting quite curious to hear that. Based on the new "Some Birds" video today, I think they'll be a little more fleshed out on the WARM record, so that will be cool. But not the full Wilco treatment.
Then again.... maybe I'm just really Jonesing for that new Wilco record (and tour!!).

Not sure if this belongs here, but Pat sat in on 3 songs with the Jayhawks on Thursday night in Nashville. They had several guests during the set. Great show... and Pat still has the best cheekbones in all of rock and roll.

What number you on there Ashtray?
This is 40. Trajectory looks good.

Would I pay $500 for "uninterrupted eye contact" for Jeff to play Bull Black Nova to me?
I suppose the real question is "would that be just too creepy, even for charity?"
Probably yes.
