  1. I came here to wonder outloud / into the void about what the recent moves outdoors mean for Jeff's solo shows in Brooklyn.  I either need to get comfortable being uncomfortable (and find a place to stay and think about a way to get there), or bail on these shows.  Part of me wants the shows postponed or cancelled so that I don't need to think about it.

  2. We Were Lucky is truly amazing live.  And this live version of Laminated Cat is the best I can remember.  There's so much intensity in both those songs - I was exhausted after each.

Between the 2 Boston shows, I have to say I enjoyed the first night a bit better (in the context of both being incredibly enjoyable). Perhaps it was just that it was the first time hearing most of the OTJ songs as full-band versions (and most of them for the first time altogether), but I also just really enjoyed the first 1:00-1:10 of the first night where the entire setlist seemed all-tension, no-release.   Night 2 felt a bit more even-keeled, I suppose.

Both nights, I found the Impossible->Box pairing just a bit odd.  To my brain it's more of a "ipod Shuffle" transition than one I truly enjoy.

Glenn's playing is a real joy to watch, i think on the OTJ songs even more so - and I was happy to have seats both nights that gave me a good view.

  3. Jeff was great at Newport.

I didn't write down the setlist.

Banter highlight for me was as he introduced Don't Forget:

"Oh what a beautiful day. Here’s a song about my dead dad"

I was also at the Mavis aftershow.  It was stellar - a real highlight overall of the weekend.   Jeff sat in on Who Told You That.  They had set up a mic for him but he didn't say anything or speak, which I thought was a bit odd ... also thought it a bit odd he didn't sit in a bit more given their relationship, but everyone was 1 song and out that night, and I'm not complaining.

I have the setlist from Mavis, but can't figure out how to upload a photo here (copy/paste didn't work for me, and the "attach file" option also didn't work for me) - if someone explains how, I'm happy to.

Stirratt was at the festival too.  He was in the house band for the Sunday finale, but I didn't otherwise see him on-stage.

  4. It's depressing to be done with this year's Newport Folk Festival and not have next year's Solid Sound on the calendar yet.

I'd be much happier if this weekend's "summer hiatus" email had given any hints/reassurances that SS would return in 2017.

  5. I was curious on the Boston show -- so far, Stubhub is showing 533 seats available.  Orpheum capacity is 2700, so roughly 20% of the tickets are being resold on Stubhub alone.  Crazy.

With that kind of scalper presence I am pretty happy to have gotten anything at all for the show (middle/rear of orchestra), but this is ridiculous.

  6. Tickets went on sale this morning for Newport Folk Festival 2015.  I have 3-day passes (not early bird, despite being online at the right time), and it will be my first time going.  I dislike music festivals in general but the Solid Sound experiences have been amazing, so I'm willing to give NFF a shot too since every year I look at the line-up and am sad I missed out.

Questions for folks who have been at both: how does the vibe compare between NFF and Solid Sound?  What's better / worse about NFF?  Does NFF feel "bigger?"  Easier/harder to get close to the various stages to see the music?
