  1. I believe this was Conor's whole setlist, the song w/ him & Nate was Lenders in the Temple:

    Moab

    Spoiled

    Eagle on a Pole

    Danny Callahan

    NYC-Gone, Gone

    Ten Women

    Cape Canaveral

    Get Well Cards

    WorldWide

    I Got a Reason #2

I Don't Wanna Die in the Hospital

    Lenders in the Temple

I think he did Souled Out!! after NYC-Gone, Gone too. I personally dug his set and was really happy he did mostly songs from his self-titled album. He seemed to really polarize the audience though. People either liked it or hated it

  2. He was bringing his guitar over to be strummed by someone (or someones) in the crowd just before the first breakdown in Spiders. ;)

Two kids in fact! I think they were like 12 years old and looked to be having a blast

  3. Even though I'm bummed the show got cancelled due to the storms, it was definitely a unique and amazing experience being up front in the pit during I'm the Man Who Loves You. It is too bad we didn't hear more songs.. the band was on.

  4. i was at the show as well, thought it was fantastic. what a great band he's got assembled, especially ellis and jim white. loved some of the arrangements. thanks for the setlist!

i really wanted to shoot this show, but drag city said will wasn't granting photo passes and to just be discreet...well, after shooting @ the wilbur WITH a photo pass for mogwai and dealing w/ their headaches, it wasn't worth it. oh well.

That's too bad you didn't get to take any pictures. I saw someone with a huge camera snapping some pictures right in front of Will near the end of the set. That's kind of a funny venue though. Me and my friend bought our tickets separately and I ended up in one of the gated in GA areas so he had to give me his wristband so I could get up front for the show. I'm glad it was such a quiet show in general too, because on the really rocking songs (Hard Life, Sheep, Keep Eye on Other's Gain), it was impossible to hear his vocals through that tiny PA system. Despite that though, it was an oddly cozy venue (must've been the carpeted floor), and nothing about it could've tarnished such a great show. I was really impressed with his band too. Emmett Kelly was great on guitar and all the harmonies

  5. This thread turned sour quickly.

I did however, just get back from his show at the Wilbur Theater in Boston and it was simply stunning. The crowd was silent the whole show and Will and his band were just engaging the whole time playing a nice 2 hour set drawing from the majority of his career. Here's a partial list of what he played:

EDIT: I came up with a complete setlist on last.fm. I have no idea what How About Thank You or Champion are. New songs maybe?

    I Am Goodbye

    Hard Life

    Lie Down in the Light

    Sheep

    You Want That Picture

    Where is the Puzzle?

    New Partner

    Careless Love

    Even If Love

    How About Thank You (??)

    Gulf Shores

    My Life's Work

    Blood Embrace

    Wai

    A Minor Place

    I Don't Belong to Anyone

    Champion

    Keep Eye on Other's Gain

    The Seedling

    Nomadic Revery (All Around)

  6. Hey,

I am right up the road on NH coast. Wondering if tailgating is possible at the ballpark in Lowell.

    Thank in advance.

PS Any local Wilco surfers out there?

I'm not exactly sure, but there might be. I know they recently built a big parking lot where there wouldn't be tailgating, but they used to also use two big lots that did allow it. I'm not totally sure if they still use the other lots.

So in other words, I don't know.. but I'll find out.

  7. Craig Finn is a better lyricist than Jeff Tweedy. There, I said it.

It's actually not even close for me.

Apples and oranges. I love both lyricists.. Tweedy in a personal sit and think about it kind of way, Craig Finn in a wander around drunkenly in a dorm building and write quotes on those dumb white boards on doors kind of way

  8. The lyrics on this album are certainly interesting, and I need to spend more time focusing on them and reading them, etc before I comment on meanings of the majority of the songs. I do however, want to say something about Wilco the Song. This is a really funny and interesting lyric for me because quite simply, I can't think of an example from rock music that has lyrics like this. The closest comparison I can come up with is a rap song in which the MC just uses standard freestyle type verses and brags. Obviously Wilco is a tad humbler, but it is interesting to hear such a straightforward statement of purpose on a rock album. They're addressing exactly why people listened to them in the first place and announcing that they're back. It's not poetic, but its unique and it works.

  9. she doesn't use the treatment on all...or most...of her songs off of The Reminder.

There is a weird kind of eq/reverb thing on the Reminder. There's some piercing frequencies that get kind of amplified by the reverb.. I hear it most on So Sorry. It doesn't really bother me, but it's there.

Country Disappeared is a nice track, but they could've done more with it. When I first heard it, I almost heard it getting an Ashes treatment or at least some mellotron or strings. The arrangement is pretty boring on the record, but the lyrics and especially that chorus melody are really beautiful

  10. Closing in on 10 listens and this thing just refuses to quite growing on me. It's really better every time.

The sequencing of You and I after BBN is so great too. It's almost as if BBN is a dream and he wakes up from it next to his wife. So many ranges of emotion on this record, and each song is so unique, but not lacking in quality at all

  11. I am not really sure anyone has done this since the 60s or early 70s, by which time rock and roll was not being simply listened to by teenagers driving around in cars and many people had good stereos to listen to records on. This may have been done by the Beach Boys circa 1964, but I doubt much later than that.

Um.. I know a lot of people that still do this. You get a really strange sense of levels sometimes when you're listening on amazing speakers. For example, if you have huge subs in a studio, you wind up mixing the bass a lot lower than you normally would. It's still fairly common practice to listen to mixes in a variety of environments to make sure it sounds right when played in a way that normal people would be listening to it.

  12. i think that a well produced album should work well on both though.

This is very true. A lot of producers will listen to mixes on crappy car speakers in order to make sure they sound good in places other than huge studio monitors. I do think this record is well produced though. Instruments are clear and everything is really well textured

  13. I do want to note how much quicker paced this is than any record since AM. Pretty much every album has started out with a long track with the exception of SBS, but that had YAMF and Impossible Germany in the 2-3 spots. It works really well though.. After 6 minutes, you're fully wrapped up in the record and you've already covered a TON of territory

  14. Alright, just finished the first listen. I really really like it. Beautiful production, awesome arrangements. Love what Nels brought to the table this time.. a lot less showy and more textural and interesting. Bull Black Nova is the obvious highlight, but I also really loved Sonny Feeling, Everlasting, Deeper Down, and One Wing. DEFINITELY going to need a good amount of listens to let it all sink in and have the subtleties sneak out at me.. can't say that was an issue with SBS which was a more immediate, but ultimately less rewarding record than Ghost or YHF. All good things, now let's just give it some time and let it breathe.
