  1. Curtis Mayfield - "Love To Keep You In My Mind"

Curtis Mayfield - "The Makings Of You"

    The Impressions - "Soulful Love"

The Impressions - "The Girl I Find"

I could probably list about 30 Curtis Mayfield-penned songs. No one wrote a better love song (or love-lost song) than Curtis.

a-GREED!!! "I'm So Proud"... "Minstrel & Queen"... "Woman's Got Soul"... "Just Another Dance"

  2. Hey, just wanted to post that I'm doing some shows in Ireland over the next couple of weeks with my pals Craig Meyer and Dan Donnelly...

we've got about 10 shows booked over the 13 days (I've got info for 5 of them and will have the rest when we get settled in Dublin). Gonna try to do a bit of blogging at my MySpace page as the merry romp wears on, so wish us luck, and if you happen to be in Ireland, hope you can find the time to perhaps pop in and further perhaps buy me a pint of Guinness as I may not be able to afford more than a pint over the course of the entire trip, what with the weak dollar-to-euro conversion and all ;)

  3. Sans Wagner, the pen is kind of a roll of the dice, but they have been quite good in stretches. I think the Phils just might have the Mets' number, psychologically, like the Braves had it in the earlier part of the decade.

I think the simple cure is a win today. Time for Maine to find his April/May form.

  4. i love manny. aside from his offensive talents, the guy makes me laugh, whether he's trying or not. there's a lot to

    be said for that.

I totally agree. I think, years from now, in addition to being remembered as one of baseball's all-time great hitters, he'll be thought of as one of it's greatest characters.

  5. Yeah this is going to be a crazy week. I just hope people can chill out a bit and realize that no matter what happens we still have a looooong way to go. If this season (baseball or election) has taught us anything, it's that there is no such thing as momentum. The Mets just need to keep playing hard every day and not treat this series in July as the playoffs. The Mets of old would have won 2 of 3 in this series and then gotten swept by the Padres after this series was over given the inevitable let down.

Totally agree Matt, and of course the talk-radio goons perpetuate the insanity, needing to analyze every play as if it were 9th inning, Game 7...

  6. A sad day for baseball... his 1989 HOF induction (along with Johnny Bench, Carl Yastrzemski and Al Barlick) was the first I ever attended (I've been to every one since). And Steve Stone's right: all of the closers should get together and make an eight-figure donation in Holtzman's memory.

  7. All of the above-mentioned are definitely the essential Paul Simon, but The Rhythm of the Saints is a remarkable album, too... as the follow-up to Graceland, I don't think it got quite as much cred as it deserved, but well worth a listen.

Surprise from a couple years back has snuck up on me with each listen. He has such a way with a melody.

  8. Just scored a ticket for tonight's Home Run Derby. Look for me in a Santurce Cangrejeros jersey, in the very last row of Section 10 behind home plate (guess the only ball I may be in position to snag is a titanic foul back)

    Oh, and ssssssshhhhhhh... 9 straight!

  9. The Beach Boys - Let's Go Away for Awhile

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

...and there's an instrumental version of "What's Going On" that was included in the deluxe anniversary edition of the Album by Marvin Gaye, which gradually builds up just the instrumental portions of the recording, first just Mr. Jamerson's bass and the legendary sax "warm-up" by Eli Fontaine, then pieces are gradually added (snaps, bongos, strings, vibes). It is magnificent.

  10. campfires

the sound of treeleaves rustling in the wind

    baseball games on the radio

hand out the window while driving on the highway

my wife glistening from a just a wee bit of sweat (she smells so good in summertime too)
