i gotta say that after the last 3 White Striples records, i much prefer the Black Keys at this point. mostly because i prefer Dan's smooth yet gravelly rasp of a voice to Jack's by quite a bit, and live they do it for me a lot more (mostly because Patrick is an amazing drummer). i also prefer Dan's guitar tone live to Jack's high pitched squeal these days.

 

as for Things, i think the drums & bass line sound more like Pink Floyd's "Breathe" to me. amazing song tho.

I agree. The Blacks Keys are more about no-nonsense, kick-ass rock, whereas The Stripes seem to be abandoning that approach. I also hear some Cortez The Killer-styled guitar playing on "Things."

I'm liking all the layers, but I could do without the flute on "Same Old Thing".

Has a Beastie Boys feel to me.

That dude is a terrible drummer - after you notice it, you notice it. At least I do - anyhow. I guess he fits the vibe though.

Ralph puts the gallop in The Horse.

As I recall, there is a lot of footage of the band and Neil arguing about stuff.

Interesting relationship between Neil and The Horse. Let's just say Billy, Ralph, and Poncho are gluttons for punishment.

Sleeps With Angels is solid. Neil was inspired after Kurt Cobain killed himself and quoted Neil in his suicide note. I enjoy that album, but I'd be hard pressed to put it in my top 15 Neil albums, nor would I say it acurately captures the essence of Crazy Horse. Obviously if it is your 1st exposure to El Caballo Loco, you'll have a soft spot for it.
