Carry Me Ohio is one of the most heartwrenching yet gorgeous songs ever written
Word.

"Carry Me Ohio" is a wonderful song too. It's one of those gems that gets stuck in my head on a regular basis. Great guitar melody in that song.
Without the detail, I thought my post indicated that.

Ooops. Sorry. I haven't really combed through this forum with a fine tooth one yet. Thanks for the link. Some excellent selections on there.
-
RHP's cover of "Silly Love Songs" on Songs For a Blue Guitar is excellent. Sounds like a Zuma outtake.
And I was recently introduced to Ghosts of the Great Highway as well. It's a great album. I can't get enough of "Carry Me Ohio." Kozelek's voice sounds a bit like a strange cross between Neil Young and Christopher Cross.

Neil Young: Everybody Knows... through Rust Never Sleeps That one is even more impressive if you take out American Stars and Bars and replace it with Chrome Dreams
Those are some other great runs. There are a lot of bands who you can put in this conversation.
Absolutely. The Dylan run starting with Freewheelin' to Nashville Skyline is pretty special as well.
I'm a HUGE Neil fan, and his string of EKTIN, ATGR, H, TFA, OTB, TTN, and to a lesser extent Zuma is amazing. Some people have brought up some great runs as well, but I stand by my Stones statement. BB, LIB, SF, and EOMS represent some of the greatest rock music ever recorded. The also came out with a pretty good live album during that period, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out.

According to Teenbeat....er I mean Pitchfork, the new Okervill River is a superior record to all those....
Agreed. Except I find Shonna's tunes to be the best. I would have cut several songs though - all Patterson tracks:
You and Your Crystal Meth
Opening Act
Monument Valley
Well, as much as I love the new Okkervil River album, Pitchfork can place their farm tool in a not so pleasant place. Suffice to say, I don't base my opinions or decisions on what to purchase on those suckpumps.
I'm with you on "You and Your Crystal Meth" (a leftover from the ABAAC session). However, I love "Monument Valley" and think "The Opening Act" is a really solid song. There's no doubt that with 19 tracks you're going to have some filler. Stereogum has a fairly balanced review of BTCD here.

Also, the Beatles released a stream of perfect studio albums:
Rubber Soul (1965)
Revolver (1966)
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
The White Album (1968)
Abbey Road (1969)
(I didn't count Magical Mystery Tour because it wasnt a proper studio album- unlike the others it was made up of various tracks recorded at different times and can be considered a soundtrack).
Who are The Beatles?

I think that honor would have to go to "Marry Me".
Marry Me is a close 2nd.

The new album is terrific. I would not put it ahead of Decoration Day, Southern Rock Opera, or The Dirty South as those albums represent the band's creative zenith. But the new album is far stronger than A Blessing and a Curse. I'm not too crazy about Shonna's songs, but my favorites include A Ghost to Most, The Man I Shot, 3 Dimes Down (the best Stones song the Stones never wrote), Self-Destructive Zones, Two Daughters and a Beautiful Wife, The Righteous Path, Monument Valley, The Opening Act, Goode's Field Road, and The Home Front. Cooley and Patterson brought their A game and the band has moved on very well in the wake of Jason's departure.
it is a great song... i just can't stand when Patterson tries to go for his falsetto and strains, it's not a pleasant sound to these ears.Music to these ears.
-
Sands would be a good song if not for Patterson's annoying falsetto on it
Blasphemy!

agreed - time they knocked it on the head - washed up
You'd be hard pressed to find a better string of studio albums than Beggar's Banquet (1968), Let It Bleed (1969), Sticky Fingers (1971), and Exile on Main St. (1972).

happy to see SBS top the list, but i have to be honest, i think What Light is kind of a bad song.
It might be a better song if they repeated the chorus a little more.
