  1. Can't wait for this one. Just found out about it today. Pretty wide variety of music. Wilco, Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine are headlining acts.

Anyone else know if they are going yet? If so, any suggestions for places to stay?

  2. My wife and I sat on the second row to the right side of the stage and the staff was very strict.. At least until the end of the show.. There was a girl in front of us that danced a lot and anytime she would get a few feet infront of her chair, the staff would tell her to back up... But it was great, after the first encore, people started going up to the front of the stage, and the staff didn't care..

But wow.. what a great show.. It's cool how the video of Jeff dancing with the little girl is already posted on you tube:

Thanks for sharing the video. It's moments like these that keep me okay with a slightly tight assed staff. And it just goes to show, Jeff DOES want people to dance!

  3. the ovens show was weird for crowd control, etc. you probably could have come down to the floor area and never been questioned about where your seats were. where i was at, they weren't checking tickets or keeping people out of the isles. security was great for me because i had a very obnoxious girl behind me that wanted to start a fight. when i got security, i had a fear that i was risking my own spot at the concert. they handled it great and no more problems from the obnoxious girl.

sorry to hear your experience at that show wasn't good. that's never fun!

My experience with the Ovens staff was bad, but Wilco was great that night. My wife and I still had a kick ass time. And meeting John and Pat after the show made things much better. It just threw off the balance of the night. It's one of those things you can't believe when they happened to you. It's like being given a kick ass piece cake and when you say "man, this is some kick ass cake" someone walks over and says, "Sir, you're going to have to contain your enthusiasm or we're going to take the cake away". I want my cake and I want to eat it too!

It's fine....we still danced, Wilco still rocked us....we just had to hide in the corner to do so. So be it. I guess the reason we didn't go to the floor was we just felt we had a seat and should have been able to enjoy it. If every person just crowds the floor then we would have been doing something wrong. Not that I haven't snuck onto the floor before, but sometimes it cause problems and tightens security later at events. I try to respect everyone around me at the shows. I don't talk over the music, I don't get all up into peoples spaces, etc. I just want to hear the greatest band play the best they can. And a band that sees everyone dancing and paying attention rocks that much harder. Just my 2cents

  4. Just got back home from vacaction. My wife and I drove from Florida to catch Wilco in Atlanta (which was such a great show, rain and all) and then went to Charlotte. Atlanta we met Jeff jogging around before the show, which set the pace for the evening for us. Never would have expected to meet anyone in the area we were in, but there we were hanging out with Jeff - not once but twice, as he came back to ask us a few questions about the area (which we couldn't help out with because we know nothing about that area of Atlanta)....but to the point.

So the next day we get to Charlotte. Make our way to our seats in the upper level. Once Wilco came out we stood up, music started and we danced. I was under the impression after 20 years of seeing shows that dancing is a good thing at concerts. Never the less, after the first song we were approached by security at the Ovens and asked to take our seats or we would have to leave.

Now we weren't in the isle, we were in front of our seats....not on our seats. We were simply dancing. So we were asked to sit I was shocked. I bought tickets to a rock show and was expected to sit. When I questioned as to why, I was told to shut up or they would throw us out. We left our seats and went over to the side next to the stairs so we could dance in the darkness without being spotted. HOW FUCKING LAME is this? Needless to say, we still enjoyed ourselves. The people behind us after we were told to sit assured us they said nothing and didn't mind us dancing at all. I have been to the Ovens before and danced and never had this problem. Maybe I'm missing something here. I have seen Wilco a few times now and always danced. I'm under the impression that Wilco rocks so we will dance and enjoy ourselves. There are times when sitting is appropriate, but at the beginning of a concert.....I'm missing something i guess.

Don't know if I'll go back to the Ovens or not. When I pointed out that the floor was dancing, security told me that I should have bought floor seats. WOW, that never occured to me, as I am one who always tries to buy tickets as far from the band as possible. Did it ever occure that we get tickets to the seats availble and not what we always want? Of course I would have loved floor tickets front row center, but that doesn't always happen. So if I end up in the upper level am I to now expect that that is the no dance zone? If it would have said anywhere anything about the upper level being a no dance zone I would have simply passed buying these tickets.

    I don't get it!

Never the less, the show was good, but we didn't have nearly as good of a time as we did in Atlanta where we could dance our asses off. After the Charlotte show we met John and Pat. It was a great end and lifted me spirits after that weirdness.

Well, I don't know where I'm going with this whole thing. I'm not new to concerts. I don't talk over the music, I don't dance in the isles or get in peoples space. I simply enjoy the band and try as much as possible to connect and give back what I can. It's always been my opinion that the band does better when the crowd is eating up their every move. If we are forced to sit and not move what is the band to think? Wilco rocks, if no we just sit there afraid of being kicked out if we show emotion what is the band to think? Wow, we rock these guys to sleeep!

Well, thats it for my bitching. I doubt I'll ever return to the Ovens. I surely wouldn't drive 10+ hours to see a band that I can't dance to.

So, on the off chance the band looked up and saw a lifeless upper level, it might just have been because some of us were asked to sit or leave. At the end of the show people stood up and danced. Sorry guys, but if it took two hours of Wilco to get you to stand and dance, you must have missed something.

As far as show quality...Wilco rocked Charlotte. Wish I could have afforded tickets sooner so I could have been on the floor with all the dancing people. You guys on the floor were rocking just as hard as Wilco. And thats how things should be.

  5. Other possible titles

Rambo IV: End of Peace USA (working title)

Rambo IV: Holy War USA (working title)

Rambo IV: In the Serpent's Eye USA (working title)

Rambo IV: Pearl of the Cobra USA (working title)

Rambo IV: The quest for more money (My Title)

Jesus, how old is Sly now? And if this really comes out what can we expect next from him? Seriously, I don't care to see this. To each their own though. I predict Rambo V will have John J. Rambo beating someone to death with a walker. Just my 2 cents. But I have never been a Stallon fan.

  6. you suck, i am jealous. A good BBQ and a six pack sounds so good right now.

Agreed! I wish I could BBQ right now, but I have spent all my money on Wilco tix. I shit you not, I'm living on peanut butter..not even bread to put it on. Just a spoon and some store brand creamy PB. It's almost sad, but then I think of all the time I will have driving around next month from shopw to show to see Wilco.....Peanut butter don't taste so bad now.

Beer, yeah, that would be niuce as well...but no luck there either. Shit, if I'm living on PB you know beers out....although next time I might just buy the beer instaed of this store brand nightmare.

On the plus side, I have a big ol jug of wine someone gave me at the Roger Waters Concert the other night. I was half in the bag by the end of the night and woke up with a jug of wine....no idea where it came from or who it came from. Sure hope I didn't just grab it wonder off.

Well, wine and peanut Butter....sure aint no beer and BBQ, but what the hell, right?

  11. Thanks. Aside from Sunken Treasure, is anyone else a little disappointed that they're not branching out more on the non-SBS stuff? Not that I wasn't expecting a lot of the standards, it's just that they have so many more songs that could be "standards."

I would guess there would be a bit more SBS things this tour, but IMO it's a great chance for them to really push out some good live versions of new songs. I have been enjoying You Are My Face live and the Side With seeds they just did was really good.

  12. unemployed and my car broke down....for good. So I'll be sitting here and will gladly keep the setlist updated for you. Even if I was employed and still had a running car I would be sitting here...so I guess there was no point in explaining that.

  13. Thank you!!! Can't wait to see the rest!

Just announced Wilco show June 21st in Maryland!

Guess who is super excited here in Baltimore???

    Mike and I !!!!

P.S. How was the Tweedy show on April 5th?

I can't believe I read all 15 pages of this....I am soooo jealous, but thrilled for everyone who attended this gem. What a good feeling this leaves me with. Canbn only imagine what being there must have been like.

Wonder how that recording is coming? Can't wait.

  14. I retired the phrase "face melting" when I stopped going to Phish shows (rolling) and hearing/seeing 45 minute versions of "Tweezer."

Since Wilco doesn't do those crazy improv. jams, they don't melt my face, although, Nels does tear it up quite well, it's just not the same.

this is going to keep me laughing all day. Thanks!

And honestly, it has been sense Phish tour, super tweeky tweezer and too much molly SINCE I have said "melted face".
