  1. This is a story I've always wanted to tell...(I wonder if VC has a word limit) I'd like to relate to you my evolution into Wilco becoming my favorite band: It all started with my job I guess. I worked the graveyard shift at a hotel out in Flagstaff, AZ. A wonderful radio show called The Acoustic Cafe came on every Sunday morning at 6:00am. In the spring of '97, they started playing a ton of Son Volt songs in recognition of the release of Straightaways. In the subsequent weeks, both from interviews and the show's playlists I was introduced to Uncle Tupelo and Wilco. I've loved music my entire
  2. I think the Altamont crack had to do with the venue. NCPAC just sort of slants up, Up, UP and you're "aware" of the people in the back from the stage, like those on a amphitheatre hill. His comment had nothing to do with post-1960's zeitgeist, or the need to have Hell's Angels provide security, but I was in the 3rd row paying almost no heed to anyone in the audience. Also, Jeff and Lilac got together in Charlottesville. My 14 year old daughter now calls Hummingbird "Lilac Rain's Song". One more thing. I highly recommend a Thai restaurant downtown called Basil. It's at the corner of King a
  3. I'll be there a row behind you lamrod. I wonder if this'll be close enough for the Lilac Rain family to come. To be honest I'm surprised they're playing this venue again considering Jeff's "this place is like Altamont" crack. But I dig a trip to Charleston if for no other reason than to hit Basil (a thai place downtown, corner of King & Ann), now just to find a companion for that 2nd ticket... You ain't gonna learn what you don't wanna know MI
  4. I recommend Bob Marley's I'm Still Waiting worked every time. A bottle of Syrah helps. For Wilco, hmm. Mountain Bed is looooooong. I've had luck with Muzzle of Bees. Happy Hunting
  5. I'll just keep adding to the endless ravings on the show at Ovens last night. They were really in a zone last night. Their sound was flawless (just keeps getting better). I assume they pay their sound engineers a pretty penny. Now some questions: I don't ever remember Mikael singing before. I always thought on previous tours when he would come around his keys and add a 3rd guitar that that was the band's heaviest sound. His role in the band seems to be increasing (at least 2 writing credits on SBS alone). And he was REALLY in the zone last night. It was a great time for me personally as well
