  1. Happy Friday the 13th to all you fine music lovers!

So I am volunteering at the Winnipeg Folks Festival this year for the whole weekend, working in the merch tent.

Just wondering if anyone else here has experience working at large festivals. What was your experience like, would you do it again, what are some things to watch out for etc....

I am really pumped! It will be pretty sweet to be a part of such an amazing Festival. I have always had a great experience there.

  2. For me it would have to be the 80's. It's the decade that introduced me to rock and roll, and shaped my musical taste. I remember my brother coming home with Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker's "Hard Promises", the first rock 'n' roll I ever heard, and it changed my life. From there it was more Tom Petty, Replacements, The Smithereens, E.L.O., Steve Earle.... Thank God for older brothers!

  3. The more I listen to this album the more I am growing to love it! Danse Caribe, Eyeoneye, Lusitania, Fatal Shore.... these songs I just can't get enough of. I recognized some bits of Fatal Shore from his cover of Dylan's "Oh, Sister", which is one of my favorite Andrew Bird moments.

I have introduced alot of my friends to the genius of Bird as well :)

  4. Wishful Thinking, one of Jeff's best lyrically and they never play it. Saw it once, my very first Wilco show.

I heard them soundcheck this in Fargo a few years ago, it was pretty sweet!

I would LOVE to hear Pot Kettle Black live again. But, then again, I would also love to not live in the middle of nowhere so I could see them more often.......

  5. I saw this article on NPR as well, interesting topic to think about.

One artist I can think of off the top of my head is Bon Iver. I have listened to both his albums and I just don't like him. Not bashing him as an artist, but I just don't get it.

  6. Art Of Almost reminds of the first time I heard I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, right after buying Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I remember thinking as the song started "I am hearing something really special here". Really enjoyed the first listen through. Thanks again Wilco!!

A perfect summer day at the Winnipeg Folk Festival! I was really pumped for this show, never thought I would get the chance to see Jeff solo up here in the Great White North. No banter between songs until about 2/3 into the set. It being the last day of 5 day festival (and a nice little heat wave), the crowd was pretty drained and Jeff made a few comments about that. But, he seemed to be having a good time.

I was blown away by the solo show. I have seen Wilco four times, but this was my first solo show. The main thing I noticed was Jeff's guitar work. Amazing! Such a great musician! Loved the setlist too. Not For The Season, Bull Black Nova, and the new songs sounded great too.

  8. Apex 460 mic

I am thinking of picking up one of these, for home recording. I want to use it mainly for vocals, acoustic guitars and guitar amps. Anyone here have experience using one of these?

This mic comes very highly recommended for budget condensor, and gets great reviews.

You can change the tube in it as well, to upgrade it, but I am not much of a gear head so I am not sure how this works or where you would buy tubes etc.

If anyone has any info, or tips on other great mics (looking to spend up to $300 or so), that would be much appreciated.

  9. Just wondering if this one is out there somewhere? I tried using the search function (which didn't seem to be working for me), and looking through all the tabs in here. Would like to record a cover of this one with some friends over the holidays.

Help is greatly appreciated! Happy Holidays folks!!

    Steve

  10. I am thankful for....

Great friends that have stuck by me these last few years

Being able to play and write music

The army of guitars in my basement

Being able to make peace with my Dad before he died, and realizing what an amazing man he truly was

Putting to bed the demons of divorce, and having the opportunity to fall in love again

After 32 years on this earth, finally realizing the person I want to be, and finding some contentment for once in my life
