  1. I requested Someday Soon for East Lansing. I have to learn how to "gain the system."

Apparently, "gaining the system" means requesting an embarrassing number of times. I started requesting for Someday Soon for this show when the tickets went on sale on October, just did a few requests every couple of days. I didn't realize how many votes I had accumulated. It was worth it! Definitely a highlight for this show, which bbop accurately described as being weird vibes. I did not understand what was going on in my vicinty re: the crowd. Also, and this is of no fault to these individuals, but I ended up standing behind two rows of the tallest people alive so I struggled to see for much of the show. Kind of frustrating, but I tried to make it work.

    A few things:

Glenn hitting the wrong sample might be my favourite part of the show. Too funny.

    Nels' Air Jordans are unreal.

Califone are amazing. Absolutely amazing. I miss them.

Other highlights for me were Misunderstood, and, as always, Handshake Drugs. I would pay any amount of money for Jeff to shred his guitar in my face a la Handshake Drugs. So great.

I'm so sad that I can't see any of the remaining Canadian shows, but I'll have to hold out until Durham. I'm already in withdrawal.

  2. Really fun!!! Security was crazy, nobody was allowed to rush the stage. And they meant it, too. A security guard was running back and forth at the front all night making sure nobody got up there. I asked one of the guys working there and he said it was requested by the band, but I don't know if he just wanted me to listen to him. I met some nice Viachicago fellas, too! :)

Also, my mom and brother were sitting in the gallery, and during the second song an older fellow asked a younger guy (my brother said 19ish) to sit down, and the kid attacked the guy! He was taken out of the place after but then came back, apparently. Bad vibes.

  3. Scored Wednesday and Friday tickets! Anyone else going? I think there may be some tix left for a couple of the shows. I've been waiting 11 years for this one.

I'm going to the first 2 shows. I want all 4, but I figure that since it's an outdoor show, I can find a place to hang out and listen to the other 2. That countdown is now my home page, I can't wait.

  4. Well, I did it. I bought tickets to the New York show. Kind of ticked off that the price said $0 before it went onsale and then all of a sudden I drop $100, but whatever. My heart was beating out of my chest and I was not about to contemplate finances. I can't freakin' wait.

  5. Anytime I feel like I'm still pretty young, I read a post like this that reminds me I'm not that young anymore. :hmm

Haha I'm sorry, I tend to have that affect on people. Anytime I feel like I've "grown up", someone makes a reference that I don't get and I make everyone in the room feel "old" and then I'm considered a child. It's kind of a bummer for everyone involved.

  6. This is going to sound ridiculous, but I saw Mars Attacks at a young age and it creeped the hell out of me. Aliens with giant brain like heads, exploding alien brainheads, a woman and her dog forcefully switching heads and bodies, old people set on fire...Jack Nicholson alone is enough to scare a child at times. I know it was a comedy, but dang, did it give me nightmares. To this day I get ridiculed for this fear.

  7. Fairly frustrating pressale with a somewhat happy ending. Got in pretty much right away - about 9:58 eastern I think. I was offered a pair in floor row D right on the aisle. Bingo! Go through the whole process and it says my card is declined. My "account" name is different than the name on my credit card (Rick/Richard). I think this might have something to do with the decline. But there is no way to change your account name online. I call up and speak to an agent. He can change my name but the tickets are lost. Even thought the system said I had 5 minutes left and 2 more attempts. And he tells me it's sold out. "There will be a Ticketmaster sale". "Yeah, but the system says the tickets are still there" I said. "Sorry, sir, they were lost when we changed your account info". And he tells me it's totally sold out again, just to help calm me down (or get rid of me). Stupidly/stubornly, I go back to Front Gate anyway. I refresh a few times. And like some kind of miracle, at some point I can request 1 ticket. It's about 10:10 now. And I pull up one of the two tickets in row D. I wanted 2 tickets but I'm not positive my girlfriend can actually make the trip so I figure I'll go for the single. And my friggin card gets declined again! Luckily, I have about 8 minutes left on the transaction so I call Front Gate back. The agent I get on the phone tells me there is nothing she can do - I should call my credit card company. She can't "get into the order", whatever the hell that means. I thank her (for nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing at all), go back online and with about 45 seconds remaining, I try another credit card. Order accepted. Crimminy.

Wow, congrats on getting that ticket! I went through the same horrible emotional rollercoaster for the last presale. Best part is, the tickets I got screwed out of last time ended up being the seats I pulled up in this presale. Life is funny.

  8. Seems like a common practice. I bought tickets for the Costello show at Massey. I kept checking TM and Massey Hall and for the first 20 minutes or so, all I was getting was gallery and the odd balcony. After about 20 or 25 minutes, I pulled up a pair in row 9 on the Massey Hall site. Trying to balance fear and greed, I threw those back, tried again, and pulled up row 4. I checked TM at the same time and they never seemed to have better than the gallery/balcony. Keep checking people.

Yeah, closer to the day of the show I'm sure we'll see some more. Also, love your sig- one of my favourite lines.

  9. I got front row Balcony seats through Massey Hall on the phone, I had quite a few way back in the gallery come up on Ticketmaster and Massey Hall online but none these good. I do figure this will sell out (firs Wilco Massey show to sell out?) and they'll add a second date.

My friend at a TM outlet said very few seats were loaded, he thinks that Massey Hall/TM might be holding them and releasing them later, like they do at the ACC and Rogers Centre. I didn't think Massey Hall would do something like that, but I don't see how else all the floors and balconies were gone.

  10. Got pretty lucky this morning. Took me 20 minutes just to get massey hall on the phone, and when I finally did the guy said there was only a few pairs left up at the very top, and a few singles. Was about to hang up and go pay 3x the price on Hub when he finds two 2nd row balconies pop up on his screen.

    can't wait for this show!

That's pretty lucky! The first tickets I pulled through ticketmaster right at 10am were in the gallery. There were no tickets! I'm sure Massey Hall had more, but I stupidly didn't try until it was too late. Ugh.

  11. Let me regale y'all with this little tale. My brother and I were both trying for tickets. I pulled a pair in row G, then he pulled a pair front row centre. I was ecstatic, until we went to process the order and we couldn't change the cardholder info from his name to mine. I did not know this was the case for Front Gate. I called them, was on hold for about 8 minutes, got through with less than a minute left on the ticket hold. He said to try my credit card info anyway, but it was too late- I tried to get the pair on my computer once they were released, but my account timed out. And then I cried. It was so frustrating. So whoever is in right centre row A seats 38-39, enjoy those seats for me!

  12. Crazy, if I were home in Toronto right now I would likely have gone to this show, and then be disappointed finding out a VC member played without my knowledge. Congrats, that's awesome praise from Lonely Vagabond, and playing with the Great Bloomers is pretty exciting. I like your music. Come back to Toronto!

  13. 4th row for Ann Arbour. Y'all have to help me out with suggestions for cheap places to stay. To be honest, I wanted to sleep in the bus station overnight but its not open. Now that you know what my standards are, suggest away! Thanks :)

  14. Yeah, because then you could buy tix AND not have to work. If I came into a great amount of money and had the energy I have now, I think I'd chuck it all in and just go to concerts all the time.

I'd do that for sure. If I lacked logic and reason, I'd do it now, even without the money.

  15. I don't know how this is possible, but I calculated that it would be cheaper for me to go to the Ann Arbour show on my way to Chicago rather than get a round trip bus fare and go straight there. I must have screwed up somewhere, but for now I will just accept it. And be very, very excited.
