nice stuff
where in boston are you at?
my band just recorded a demo at the milkhouse in allston
i'm north of boston right where 95 and 93 meet. do you need a hand mastering?
-
Sounds pretty good... This may be the best band from Florida that I have ever heard.
besides tom petty and the heartbreakers!
-
i just mastered a record by this band. i think you guys might like them.
-
And you warrant a BIO, too.
By the way, the reviews make me want to buy your albums... sound right up my alley.
thanks a lot - much of it is here: http://towerofsong.com

that's very lame of the decemberists organization.
also, "illness" is often code for "drug problem". i'm not saying that's the case here. but often it is.

Saw this on Sundance last night. Highly recommended. If not only for footage of the Traveling Wilbury's in the studio.
someone already said this, but it'll be on again this Saturday at 2pm ET on Sundance Channel
all of the wilbury's footage comes from this DVD, which is totally amazing:

The 2 DVDs are really good. It took several nights to get through it all, but I really liked the whole thing.... other than all of the hair dye... why do musicians feel they need to have jet black hair when they are as old as they are? Petty dyed his hair too... I find it disturbing.
But the music and interviews are fantastic.
tweedy dyes his hair. cheesy.
-
well, that settles it.

cause it's impossible for the man to actually just be an asshole...
no, but it's definitely possible that jeff was way more of an asshole than the movie makes him out to be...esp. during the drug years.
you know that scene where jeff pukes after getting into an argument with jay about the heavy metal drummer mix? those two incidents happened on different days and were totally unrelated. it was edited together in a misleading fashion.
-
After seeing him in IATTBYH I kinda go out of my way not to listen to anything of his.
this movie was definitely edited to make jay look bad and jeff look good. unfortunate.

-
whatever you do, don't mention your band. at least for a couple months.
-
anybody have any info as to the progress on the new rubin/metallica record?
-
ok kidsmoke, you can ban this guy.
the movie?
-
I know. How do you feel about Billy Jack?
billy joel?
-
Interesting coincidence that you were in Pedro the Lion and I have a monkey. It's really kind of eerie.
that is quite a creepy coincidence.
-
Gunther Murphys? (R.I.P.)
YES
that was it. thanks. it closed?
they ridiculously offered me $500 to play there. i arranged it to coincide with my move across country so i could do it.
that's probably why they went out of business. offering dudes who don't draw shit $500!!!
the best part of the show was that mark mallman was on the bill. i wasn't too into his songs, but he was a hilariously entertaining performer.
-
I really, really liked that album.
wow...thanks! we came through a few times touring on that album. did you ever make it out?
-
Pedro guy - You're kinda alright, you know that? For a street-teaming SOB, that is.
well played, my friend. well played. i wouldn't kick you out of bed either.
-
I'm assuming that it's you singing, you sound like a deeper version of Neil Young.
edit: this isn't really my type of music, but it's very good. the sound quality is impressive and the songs are all sharp and thought out. I like the weird percussive/reggae breakdowns and vocal harmonies in there.
yeah, i have always gotten the neil young comparison. i definitely hear it too. if i could pick, i'd rather sing like e costello, but i _am_ a huge neil young fan.
thanks for checking it out and the compliment. it's definitely borderline nerdy-music-geek type stuff, but i am working on some new material that is a bit more easy to follow.

oh, chicago venues i've played: metro, vic theatre, empty bottle, fireside bowl, abbey pub, schubas
i forgot - i also played a solo show in the back room of an irish pub in 2003, but i can't for the life of me remember the name!

It's Achilles Heel. There's some real good songs on that one. Is the band still going, or is David solo now?
i'm all over that one. i wrote track 10, the song "Start Without Me". unfortunately, that album was rushed and didn't reach its potential.dave is solo now. he has a good EP out on barsuk:http://www.barsuk.com/shop/bark065
Sounds like me. I grew up in Weymouth. My wife kyan't undih-stand my sistahs at all.i feel ya! actually, it took me a while to get used to it again when i moved back....i'm north shore and it's like a different language sometimes.
-
TM - how Bostonian are ya?
very. although i don't have too much of an accent anymore. i'm 32. i moved to seattle when i was 28, and moved back earlier this year. i learned quickly to curb my accent, because people would make fun of it. even my best friends. when i looked upset, they would say "no, we love it! really!"...laughing at me all the while. ha ha.
