  1. Yep. The ATL Lollapalooza. I can't remember if they made it to the 2nd stage or not. I do remember that it was supposed to be Sinead O' Connor, but we got Pavement instead! Also, I remember the rain of plastic bottles during Cypress Hill. Haha, good times.

  2. Saw them at Lolla' 95 and they were awesome. That is also the night that made me an INSANE Sonic Youth fan. I have tix to the show this fall in Atlanta. Can't. Freakin. Wait.

  3. Ashes and ALTWYS back to back? I may have had a meltdown if I'd been there. :blink

Indeed, I did have a meltdown. Effin' awesome show. Ashes was probably teh best performance of the night I have to say. So so soooo good!!!

  4. I'm not a total stranger to the guitar...had a Ibanez LP clone as a teen and a Yamaha folk as a young adult, but I haven't played in a long time, for a bunch of reasons. Actually still have the Yam FG but my daughter has coopted it and it now sports nylon strings, to make it easier for her to learn on (not my idea!). It doesn't even want to stay in tune.

Anyway, I feel like getting an electric now, and taking some lessons with a guy I know. But my budget is only $200 or so. Amp can come a bit later. What do you guys suggest? I was looking at some Jay Turser models, the prices seem good. I'd be interested in opinions of those, MIM Fenders, Squiers, Eastwoods, etc. New/used/b-stock. For an amp I was thinking of something really small like a Microcube. I have a feeling I'll be using headphones most of the time.

..I'm looking mostly for recommendations on build quality, and tone (I know next to nothing about pickups or modern strings, for example). I just want something that has easy action and stays in tune, and doesn't need a bunch of upgrading right away. Body style doesn't matter that much to me, neither does weight.

A squier strat is usually the way to go. I have seen many of those get beat up with all the punk rockin' and still keep on going, and they're not much different than a mexican strat.

  5. I saw them at a place in Atlanta called the Point in 1998. The club was so small that their equipment was tucked in a corner on the floor by the stage while the opening bands played. I got to hand Sarah (Sara?) some of her drums before they played!

But yeah, I really dig their stuff. New Plastic Ideas is my favorite, and I love Fake Train.

  6. Get Sonic Youth's discography.

I agree, but since that alone is a HUGE task, you can't go wrong by starting with Daydream Nation. THe perfect mix of 80's style SY mixed with the 90's era sound. Their Magnum Opus in my (and about a million others') opinion!

  7. I would kind of like to see a whole album show from these guys. I doubt that would ever happen, but we're dreaming here, right? Pick one from Summerteeth, YHF, Being There, or (insert favorite wilco album here) then a couple of encores with whatever. I would be there!

  8. I am in need of tickets to the Ryman show in Nashville. I thank anyone in advance (and will many times over) who will help me out! I am still a "cherry ghost" but have been an "analog" fan for many, many years!!

  9. Yes! Please more Georgia shows. Last year it poured on us! Although that had to be the best show I've ever seen. So Fun. There are lots of cool little towns around - Athens, Atlanta, Asheville, Birmingham.

Yes, pour it did. I would like to see them again where there's not such restrictive sound ordinances and curfews and the such too. However, that show rocked my face off!

  10. There were a couple of mopey moments at the Atlanta show as far as the Shins are concerned, but they did start to rawk toward the last half, and their cover of Breathe was awesome!

However, the Shins show this year was good, but the Wilco show was life-altering. Maybe it was because the Shins were not in the pouring rain, or it could be that I finally got to see Wilco this summer after about 8 years of wanting to without the chance or the funds when they came around.
