  1. Anybody able to get Portland tix?

F5'd from 9:55 until the "Purchase" button popped up. Never an option on the drop-down to buy more than one ticket, despite the "4 tickets max" message, and every single time, from 9:59 on, I got a message saying "We were not able to find any tickets in that section." Either they sold out before 10am or the page is just borked.

Just wondering if anyone else had better luck.

  2. Just wanted to let everyone know that I've finally added the recent Terminal 5 Roadcase show to my Mediafire folder of Roadcase rips.

The folder contains ONLY the shows that Wilco has posted to the Roadcase for free over the last few years, NOT the new Roadcase series that they're selling. There are a few rips of other shows that I judged as being "free" in the same sense (e.g. the Letterman Live performance audio), but, as always, let me know if any of this content shouldn't be freely available and I'll take it down right away.

Just wanted to share, as this show is particularly awesome.

    Happy Holidays to everyone!

  3. Hi all,

I wanted to let everyone know that I've reorganized the various Roadcase rips that I've been posting over the last few years in a way that makes them easier to download while adding a few new rips (ACL, Live on Letterman, etc.) and fixing a few specific tracks that had errors (which various members kindly messaged me about).

These are all of the Roadcase shows that I've recorded, ripped straight from either Wilcoworld.net or the band's Facebook page and compressed to 192kpbs mp3 (likely equal to or less than the level of compression of the streams themselves). I also ripped the recent ACL and Live on Letterman shows, but those were ripped from someone else's video rip that I got off of some random torrent and so the lineage is a little unclear; again, though, 192kbps shouldn't be any higher level of compression than the source audio in either case.

I've uploaded all the shows as .zip files, so there's no more individual-track downloading, which was the major problem with the way that I'd originally uploaded the shows.

Lastly, I just threw these all up on MediaFire today, and, as usual, the site was being a little wonky. So I may well need to re-up a few of them, if people start getting errors. If you have any problems, either PM me or reply in this thread.

Post-lastly, aside from the ACL and Letterman rips, I believe this is all stuff that I've linked to through this forum before, so I don't think there's any rule-breaking going on. If I'm wrong, though, please let me know (mods) and I'll delete whatever the offending content is immediately.

    Oh, and here's the link.

  4. There's a new show up in the roadcase, the Seattle show from last year, which I was actually at. It was a good one.

I've got a stream rip up here, for those interested.

Mods: as always, if it's become verboten to post stream rips from the roadcase since I last asked, please delete this topic.

  5. In case you missed this in all the TWL excitement and/or disappointment, there a new show up in the roadcase. I've only really listened to the first half, but it's a good one.

  6. as annoying as the whole multi-package presale thing is (and $17 to ship a record to washington state is insane, amazon does it regularly with hard cardboard packaging for 3-4 bucks), i think it's probably less wilco getting up to "usual" record-company games and more just an acknowledgment of the reality of today's music business. most fans (though probably not most of us on this board) are going to buy music in general (and wilco music in particular) in digital format. wilco seems to be acknowledging this by making ALL the bonus tracks available through iTunes with an album purchase. if you're a "normal" music-listener, you don't have to double-dip at all to get all the tracks, and the tracks are all you really want in the first place.

if you're the rare fan that wants more than just the music, the CD gives you nice packaging and a booklet which will likely have neat, memorabilia-y stuff in it. likewise, the LP gives you audiophile sound and all the other aesthetic goodies that come with buying an LP.

sure, you miss out on some tracks with either of these "hard" media methods, but to add the bonus songs to the LP would mean making it a three-LP package, thus raising the price. i mean, i don't know the track times of each of the tracks, but i doubt you could have 17 or 18 tracks and fit it all on 2 LPs. the only thing that sort of annoys me is the fact that the bonus CD is missing ONE bonus track (the one from the LP). why not slap that sucker on there? i dunno.

i guess what i'm getting at, though, is that if all you want is the music, the cheap option to get it all is there on iTunes. the fact that we're all (me included) complaining about double-dipping via the other options is probably just an indication that we're members of a small, obsessive part of wilco's fanbase that probably doesn't account for a large percentage of their music sales.

just my 2 cents (plus $25 for shipping).

  7. thanks for the suggestions on a better uploading strategy. i may look into re-upping these shows in a different format later (maybe on mediafire but as zip files for each separate set?), but right now to be honest i can't really take the time. if i do move them to a more download-friendly system later, though, i'll be sure to let you all know :)

  8. okay, i got the four new roadcase shows uploaded, finally.

everything's in CBR 256kbps mp3, and should be correctly tagged and all that jazz.

they're all available in my mediafire folder, here, along with four of the older roadcase shows, in case you don't already have those.

mediafire is by far my favorite uploading service, but unfortunately, you have to download each track separately, as they don't allow large (+200MB files) without a paid account. i tried zipping up each of the shows into one file, but all but the tweedy one was over 200MB.

i tagged and tracked these shows really quickly last week because i'm sort-of buried in work right now, so if there are any mistakes, let me know and i'll re-up a corrected version of the offending song(s). enjoy!

  9. got all four shows ripped, and tracked one, only to find that using "export selection" in audacity introduces some weird overlapping effect between tracks. found a different way to cut the tracks up this morning, but i'm hoping to be off on a mountain climbing trip tomorrow if the weather clears up. either way, though, i should have these up by the end of the week. i'll post here when i finish them.

  10. it was my first time trying something like this, but i recorded it and cut it into 20 tracks. am i allowed to share?

i've ripped roadcase streams and posted them on here before, and it's always been okay, so i'd imagine it's still fine.

  11. i like it as well as any. it grew on me, once i could get past the production. i just think some of the songs are compressed, the wilco song being one of them. it's too bad. i know the vinyl sounds better, or so i've read. it's just really frustrating because the production from yhf to sbs is warm, immediate and flawless. to hear one of my favorite bands go 'loud' is sad. one of the reasons i like wilco is because of their production. let's get o'rourke back for the new one, or let pat produce, the autumn defense records are very well produced.

yeah...i know that often "the vinyl sounds better" is code for "i'm cooler than you because i listen to records", but i just got the WTA vinyl yesterday and before then i would have absolutely agreed with everyone who says the album is "pretty good". but after listening to the vinyl, i've been converted; this album is just as good (if a bit less unique) than any wilco album, for me. tweedy himself, i think, described it as a sort of "greatest hits" album, and that disappoints me a bit...i think if you're a huge wilco fan, you want another weird, exploratory album more than a greatest hits sound that doesn't do much that's new.

all that said, though, the vinyl DOES sound way better, and i can hear a lot on it i just can't hear on the CD. for example, "deeper down" is one of my favorite tracks off the album because there's a depth to it on the vinyl that just doesn't exist on the CD version, which sounds overly compressed and dry. i don't know how to explain it, but all the complaints that WTA wasn't "experimental" enough when it came out sort of dissolved for me when i could "actually" hear it for the first time on vinyl.

  12. Oh, if anyone missed the Paradiso or Vicar Street webstream downloads awhile back, I still have them up here and here.

I'm not planning on rerecording either show right away; I relistened to both shows last night and the few glitches between songs that I could hear aren't really bad enough to make me want to redo both shows entirely. However, if anyone else wants to take the trouble, here's what I've been doing to get these last few streams:

    1. Download Audacity (free).

    2. Run Audacity and go to Edit > Preferences > Recording.

    3. Set your recording device to "Stereo Mix" (this might be different on a Mac, I've never tried it).

    4. Now everyone sound your computer plays will be recorded by Audacity once you hit the red "record" button in the program, so just hit record and start playing the stream. I had to set my volume at about 90 percent for the stream to be a reasonably high volume. You might have to play around with this.

    5. Once you've recorded the entire thing, it's just a matter of going into Audacity with its editing function and cutting the individual tracks out of the big, long sound file that you'll have. I did this by selecting each track and using the "export selection" option to save each track as a separate mp3. You can do it a bunch of other ways if that doesn't work.

    6. I exported each track as a 256kbps mp3, because I can't imagine that the original webstream is of any higher quality than that.

The only webstream I haven't recorded is the Boston one, but I think there's already a recording of that out there somewhere, so I didn't bother.

  13. Okay, here's the Tweedy show. Same as the Wilco show...a few of the song transitions might be a little awkward, but I did the best I could with them without taking the time to rerecord and retrack the entire show. Also, as mentioned in the recording notes, I boosted the volume of "Acuff-Rose" to compensate for the lack of PA, but with the volume boosting came a fair amount of distortion, so I've also included the original, unboosted version. You can hear the unboosted version okay, you just have to pump your volume way up, and that means the crowd cheering at the end of the song is about 500db :)

Like last time, here's the link to the MediaFire folder: http://www.mediafire.com/?zezhqq3offet5

And here's the SendSpace full .zip file link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/gw5lvq

This is a really fun show, enjoy!

  14. For some reason track 2 (Bull Black) won't download. Any ideas?

Thanks again - can't wait for the Tweedy show!

The link is working okay for me, and it looks like a lot of others have already downloaded it...not sure what could be wrong. If it still isn't working for you, I could upload that particular track somewhere else and try again :)

  15. Okay, so I finally finished with the Admiralpalast show. It took a minute in part because the new version of Audacity totally mucked up the "Export Selection" command, which is what I used to track the show after I recorded the whole stream. The result was that each song somehow had the first 3 or so seconds of the next song attached to its end, making it so the intro to each song played twice. I cut these weird little extra bits out. My only concern is that the transitions between songs may not be totally smooth now. I was going to go back and rerecord the whole stream and just track it again with a different program, but I'm not sure how much a few microseconds of inaccuracy would bother anyone but me. So, I'm posting the show now, and if you'd like, I can go back and "fix" it later. But for those of you who don't want to wait another week, you can have this version :)

I just have to relisten to the Tweedy show and rerecord a few of the tracks because a few computer beeps got into them. But it should be up in the next few days.

Here's a semi-permanent MediaFire link to the show (nice and orderly, but you have to download each track separately): http://www.mediafire.../?v9druex6if64u

And here's a .zip file link through SendSpace: http://www.sendspace.com/file/vavsht

Let me know if there's any funkiness that I didn't catch on my listen-through!

  16. turns out my officemate decided to use my computer while i was recording the streams, which means i have to listen back and figure out which songs have little IM bleeps and bloops in them and re-record those ones. but i definitely plan on being done in the next few days. the tweedy show sounds especially great.

  17. That would be great. I appreciate your willingness and everyone who is able and willing to share. I'll admit, I don't like to be the person always asking someone else to do these things, so I've spent the last couple of days on and off trying to figure out what I need to do to capture these shows, but so far I've been unsuccessful. I'll keep trying though, I'd like to be able to say I've contributed to this community.

i'm recording the streams today...there's been a break in the clouds of work, so hopefully i can finish them by the beginning of the week :)

  18. I second the statement about capturing these shows. If someone can capture them, that would be amazing!

Also, with quicktime, how do I separate the file into tracks?

i captured the streams from the 8-28-2009 and 11-16-2009 shows awhile back and posted them on here. assuming that's still legit to do legal-wise and whatnot, i'd be happy to capture and track these two shows for everyone, too. i'm buried in work at the moment, though so it'll probably take me a few weeks to get to it. i'll post the links in this thread if nobody's beaten me to it by then :)

  19. okay, well for now:

i have both concerts uploaded in 256k CBR mp3. the sound is pretty great for a webcast, though the amsterdam show records with a little more static (maybe a lower bitrate?) in the background throughout for some reason. the static is really inaudible unless you turn the volume up very, very high though. i tried recording both concerts a number of times with a number of different programs and settings, and yet still had this problem with the amsterdam stream, and not the dublin stream. it's really weird, but again shouldn't effect your enjoyment of the show at all unless you're cranking a huge stereo system to massive volume levels or something. also, there's a small skip in "Jesus, Etc." on the dublin show which i tried for about an hour to edit out in audacity and had no luck, so i left it in. otherwise, both streams should be free of skips, flubs, etc.

there shouldn't be any other problems, but if there are, let me know and i'll try to iron them out, as i kept the original .wav streams on my hard drive.

i'm just going to say for now to PM me if you want a link to download the shows, and if someone lets me know if it's cool to post the links directly on here, i'll post them in this thread. thanks for your patience!

  20. Any luck on this locke? Some of the charity downloads from Wilco have been at 192k.

i did the whole thing in 256k, because i couldn't imagine they would be higher than that. just finished tagging all the files and they're uploading now. should be done in an hour or two. is it common practice to just post the download links, or should i give it out via PMs? does it matter?
