  1. Saw Nels Cline with Gerald Cleaver and Larry Ochs last night in New Haven. Pretty mind-blowing set with Nels twiddling knobs and jumping in pedals and generally punishing his guitar. So nice to get to see him up close and in a small club (actually a recording studio.) I think they are heading to Philly next, then Brooklyn. Recommended.

  2. I'm not much for praying but that's about it. But just keep trying if you don't get through the first time. Honestly, I've never been shut out of a Wilco show before. The NYC tickets will be in demand, for sure, but there are 4 night to choose from. Best of luck...

  3. What are the odds that the band is still the same 6 musicians by the time they do this tour?

Hmm, I often wonder about this. Part of me thinks that Nels will be the first one to move on. He seems to me like someone who's always looking to branch out. I wonder what's his impetus for sticking around. As for the rest, I can't see it unless Jeff decides that should be the case. After all, he's the boss.

Do you know something we don't, nalafej?

  4. So excited - got my Portland, ME tickets no problem this morning - sort of a trip down memory lane as the first time I ever saw Wilco was at the State back in '02 - nice to see the full band coming back (last time in Maine was '09) although Jeff solo and Tweedy (the band) have been here since...  HAPPY

Was that the show at Maine State Pier? That's one of my fave Wilco shows ever.

  5. My younger self would not have admitted this, but I get no enjoyment from this type of music.  I love Nels, and I have enjoyed countless albums he plays on in a wide variety of genres, but I can't take endless skronk anymore.

I'm generally with you on this but I think this type of stuff is what Nels really enjoys doing. I think being in Wilco allows him the personal and financial freedom to dabble like this.To each their own...

  6. Well. I live in New Haven, just about 1/2 hour away from Bridgeport and I'm not bothering with the the Vibes mostly for the reasons stated above and, knowing the demographics of the fest I am dubious about Wilco playing any of the new songs. This is a fest that would be all over the classic, old-school Wilco set, full of the old chestnuts. The band may decide that just might be easiest.

On the other hand, it would be fantastic to see them confound the audience with a new set full of skronky new songs.

But, I just saw two sets at Solid Sound. I'm gonna wait for an NYC show or another round of shows at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester.

  7. My review, fwiw.

Tremendous on so many levels and (sort of) the record I've been waiting for Wilco to make for years. Both Nels and Glenn both own this, for the most part. Selfishly, I wish they would have played some of this at Solid Sound.

I also think that with more listens I will be rewarded even further.

Also, I love that it blows by in 34 minutes.

  8. I'm not understanding all the complaints. It's an outdoor festival. Beer and liquor is offered people will drink. Drunks are annoying. For the record I saw MMJ on Tuesday in Columbus I went out in the beer line and saw one guy dragged out by security who couldn't even stand and then about 3 other people that should not have been put in public. That was during the first set at one show. Considering some other festivals I've been too SS was a godsend with people's behavior. Maybe I'm just a hippie too but I would rather have people smoking around me. A lot of people are on vacation as well. Getting baked in 2 afternoon is kind of nice. Also getting baked helps me ignore the drunks everyone seems to be complaining about. If you don't like smoking you should try the chocolate we had instead!

This festival is amazing why should we diminish it with all these complaints.

I'm not religious but, "amen" to this.

  9. I find Mr. Heartbreak's (and others) take on pot smoking amusing. People get high at concerts and they always will. My kids were with me again this year. It's a great way to demystify marijuana for them. Now they know what it smells like, what a joint looks like and can see how people react to pot. All important things for adolescents to know about. I think you need to get out more.

As for cigarette smoking, it's dumb but last I looked it was legal in Massachusetts. People smoke, people get high, people sing along. I'm shocked about all the whining here.

  10. I'm dismayed about all the negativity in seeing here. Mizzy makes a great point about the local restaurants. They are a stones throw away from Mass MOCA and were delicious. No lines either, for the most part. Also, the delicious Indian food vendor had a very short line and great veg. food. There were more options than burritos. I'm focussing on all the beautiful moments I had at SS15 with my friends and family. So much laughter and good vibes and my kids (14 and 10) had a great time too. Not sure where the anti-kids vibe is coming from but it's off putting.

Anyway, we're already talking about the next one.

  11. My feeling exactly, outside of Wilco those were my next two must see acts.  I've seen Taj a few times, I've never seen King Sunny Ade.

Well, it does suck that King Sunny can't make it but, I can heartily recommend Ryley Walker on Saturday as well as Parquet Courts and the great Charles Lloyd on Sunday. Still plenty to be excited about. It's great just hanging in North Adams for the weekend w/the family.
