  1. The "linking is jerky"/"thanks for the links!" argument will never die.

People who post links to previous threads are usually doing it for one of two reasons:

    1. If a thread is substantially similar to another thread, it doesn't make a lot of sense to have a new one. Sometimes they'll be merged by the moderators, or the new one will be closed, but it can be crazy-making to have multiple threads on one topic. It's just a lot easier to navigate the boards when it's a bit tidier arond here. And if you didn't know about the previous thread, or weren't able to find it using the search feature, then the links are helpful.

    2. Sometimes when someone is new to the board, or doesn't post regularly, they don't realize that the topic they're posting about has been discussed before. And lots of times, there is good information in the older threads. In this case, links to the previous threads can be helpful because maybe someone posted information a while back but doesn't post much anymore, or a topic was really hot at the time of the first thread and lots of people posted (this is often the case for things like lyrics; when a new song or album comes out, lots of people want to discuss the lyrics, but you might not get as many responses further down the line).

Either way, the impulse is usually to be helpful, point the poster to more information, keep things in some kind of order, etc. If it feels like you're being shut down when someone posts a link to a previous thread, please try to remember, that's probably not the intent. As Ms. Racer posted above, if people want to talk about a topic, having links to older threads in that topic is not going to stop the conversation.

    This was already posted here.

  2. Well, how can he? He's got that Comet Bus to fly around in. I wouldn't want to stop either!

    :yay

Apparently, this is a real band with the intention of playing shows and recording. Among the small group of people who would care about this musical pairing, I could see this being one of the most highly anticipated records ever.

P.S. The description I read of this was "the poppier side of Jawbreaker mixed with the poppier side of Pinhead Gunpowder". :wub

  3. WOW! Do they have a name yet? I've got to fill my college friends in....one of them had a man crush on Aaron Cometbus.

I didn't hear the name yet. I just hope they are recording/doing this full time. I know Aaron tends to not stay in one place very long...

  4. I wonder how things are working out for the couple of people who have had success after being on this show (Kelly Clarkson, the blonde country singer chick). Didn't they sign like the least artist-friendly contracts in the history of music or something? I thought I read an article once that detailed the numerous ways in which the AI contracts completely screwed them...from royalty rates to merch, etc..

  5. Bob Dylan is the most overrated (musical) artist of all time.

Led Zeppelin was a cruddy band, and Robert Plant is an awful frontman (don't even get me started on Jimmy Page).

Sgt. Pepper's is the worst Beatles album. By far.

Once you get past the southern-rock-revival-for-hipsters schtick, Drive By Truckers have a bunch of really boring songs.

Meg White's drumming is perfect for the White Stripes sound.

I would rather listen to a 14 year old novice guitar player testing out a BC Rich/Line 6 combo at Guitar Center than listen to Eric Clapton. Feel free to also substitute Stevie Ray Vaughn and/or Carlos Santana for Eric Clapton.

Green Day is a good band.
