  1. I was thinking the same thing. Sox game will be at 4 a.m. for me, the webcast at 5 a.m.

I was thinking the same thing (but I'm at least on the east coast). What a weird early-morning combo, but that might be worth it.

(Manny doubles home two in the 10th!)

  2. I would strongly recommend not putting it up on dime, or any of the torrent sites for that matter. They would probably ban it and I don't think the band or their management would be too happy. However, I believe these should be archived in some way so that in the future fans could listen to them long after they are no longer in the roadcase. The only solutions i can think of are putting it up at the Owl & Bear. If i make mine available, I'll certainly include a request in the text file not to torrent it. That would be a bad idea.

btw Owl has let me put up other webcasts in the past.

Sounds smart to me. I'm happy for you to run with it, but if I can help, let me know. (And thanks! I know it does take a while to do one of these.)

  3. Basically - I am trying to learn a bit about this:

I think the 3rd paragraph about better available source is the key. A better source *could* become available if the sbd comes out, like the 2/16 matrix, but we certainly couldn't *expect* it to become available. And so, far as I can tell, a torrent of the stream would be legal for DIME on that count.

The other question would be whether torrenting it would discourage Roadcase updates in any way. Would the band feel differently about a stream vs a ripped and shared stream, etc. I dunno.

That said, I just finished capturing the Roadcast 20th stream with Audacity and breaking/exporting this into .wav files, minus the bit of intermission music and some starting applause. I can convert to FLAC and yousendit the individual files, but that'll obviously take a LONG time and other folks would probably need to re-upload 'em. (Let me see how many parts it might require to divide the FLAC's into 100MB chunks.)

(p.s. Oops. Upon further reading, it looks like we'd be out of luck for DIME since there's no way to verify the resolution of the stream -- right? But if anybody has an FTP for sharing amongst ourselves, I'm happy to upload ...)

  4. Hmmm. To be honest, on my reference headphones, that one pales in comparison to this: Res nite 3 Neumann AK40 mics

Different show, but still. The AK40 recording has great ambience, clarity, and none of the bass muddiness. You can clearly hear audience conversations nearby...which is pretty annoying! (Why can't people STFU!?!!!)

    (my bedroom setup = Winamp 5.32 -> ATH-W1000's)

Yup, that's the recording I fetched from that night, and John Dewey did a great job. It's really something how good the audience recordings can sound as opposed to an average aud from 10-15 yrs ago (chatty neighbors notwithstanding), and how the taping community can cover just about an entire tour as standard procedure these days. Listeners have never been luckier.

Regarding the OP, I figured a lot of people will gravitate to a sbd or matrix to check out first, if there's a choice (including me).

Nice headphones! I'm using a pair of Sennheisers (http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=005206) that aren't in that league but that are a good mix of sound quality, portability for work trips, and still being able to hear what's going on if Lovey needs to tell me something from down the hall, etc.

  5. I was talking about the best recording, source. thanks.

Well, the matrix from the 2nd night of the Residence, mentioned here earlier in the week, is as good or better than the WXRT broadcast from the 19th. Both of those were seeded on Dime by nice folks, and I'm hanging on to hope (but not holding my breath!) that a 1st-night matrix might surface at some point, too. :)

As for aud's, I don't really have a lot of context to compare, but I have enjoyed the Des Moines recording by Ralph Bryant.

  6. Bonus discs also very watchable with Magazine Called Sunset etc and very touching live peformnace in that empty hall of Pieholden Suite. Sweet indeed.

    :thumbup

I haven't watched the movie in a few years, but I pull out the bonus disc every few months. Enjoy the music while I'm working, glance up and watch now and then. You gotta be in the right mood to deal with the drama of the time, Jeff throwing up, etc. in the movie, but the bonus disc is all goodness.

  7. Sorry if this has been asked, I just got here and do not want to read all 39 pages:

Sweet! I love this and am glad it's been resurrected relatively speakin, but I never expected it to get played tonight after being in last night's set, too.

    The Middle 8

    Just music.

  10. Hats off to the VC'ers in the comments who are listing their favorites in chronological order.

I know a lot of folks are sick of it, but that joke is still one of the most endearing things about this forum. A little Wilco fanchat mutation that doesn't exist anywhere else in nature.

  11. A Christopher Walken cameo in a Wilco-while-rehearsing skit, perhaps encouraging more cowbell on Shake It Off (or playing himself in a skit including "Walken")?

    or

Fred Armisen reprising his classic Jeff Tweedy imitation, etc.?

As cool as Walken would be, I really loved Armisen in the DVD and Tweedy with the deadpan. Plus, he's already in the building, so working in something like that seems a lot more likely.

    The Middle 8

Last post: The month in Wilco.

  12. Somehow, I get the feeling this sort of response would follow even if they were asked and then went on to accept a gig to play the Republican National Convention.

Oh, yeah? Then I get the feeling some people would be whining if they'd postponed the gig to play a cancer research benefit that was broadcast globally.

    So there!

  13. Oh thats the FM broadcast from Tues. night. I meant the webcast from last night. The dime probably wouldn't allow the webcast, anyway. I'm sure there will be an aud. tape appearing there before long, and hopefully the webcast will show up on the roadcase. I was just curious to see if anyone here did record the webcast.

When there is no available recording superior to the webcast (like in last night's situation), then I believe Dime would allow the webcast.

What they wouldn't've allowed, for example, would be a 64kbps web capture of the WXRT show from the station's website, when a much better-quality recording straight off the airwaves could exist (and that's what got seeded).

I really hope last night turns up. I'm afraid everybody had the same choppiness and there's no clean copy. Maybe a Roadcase posting would be the only solution; we'll see.
