  1. It's available in Columbia and Greenville/Spartanburg. I can see the house I grew up in in Greenville. The new owners screwed it all up.. :ohwell

Alright, I misspoke -- not available in Charleston (at least the last time I checked).

  2. I was thinking basically the same thing for the Jacksonville show. With Google Maps Street View, you can essentially walk down the street in virtual reality to see what the sidewalks are like. Shit's crazy.

Jacksonville's downtown has had a huge influx of condos along the waterfront, so they've had to beef up security. You can walk anywhere, within reason.

If the show was in downtown Charleston, walking would definitely be ok but from what I've seen of North Charleston, I don't think I'll try it.

I'm gonna try that street view thing later. Sounds cool.

It's not available in South Carolina. However, you can see my Christmas decorations from my front yard last year if you typed in my address.

  3. From what I remember, its pretty busy all around the PAC and I'm pretty sure you'd have to cross atleast one busy intersection to get there. I'm not even sure if there is a sidewalk.

The hotel is located off I-526, if that gives you any indication. It's about 7 blocks away according to Mapquest.

  4. Thanks! I sure hope this dingbat stops talking...

Nope. She babbles for the whole freakin' concert.

I'm diggin One Wing. Kinda seems like if A Ghost is Born is Tonight's the Night, One Wing would fit on On the Beach. I just get a similar feeling from it.

EDIT: On second thought (after listening to the second half of One Wing) I thought of Elliott Smith's From A Basement on the Hill.

Good call about sounding like On the Beach.

I get the feeling that Nels had a good deal to do with the "coloring" of these songs.

  5. Pics? Unique clothing? I can post a pic, but I'd have to get back to my home PC. When I went to see Nels a couple weeks ago, Three Dollars and Sixty Three Cents told me that she'd be the girl with the silver purse. :lol

    ... I don't have a silver purse .

  6. Thanks for the great info. I will be getting there mighty early, and will definitely find a place from this list.

Anyone ever try to get in to a soundcheck? What time would soundcheck even be, if the show is at 8? I would love to do this, but have never had the time ... this time, though, I will be early.

My office is about a half-mile from the Theatre. I was thinking about wandering over there and taking a shot, but not sure when it would be.

  7. I did a bunch of research the other day. Didn't save much of it but what I eneded up with is a Super 8. I'm gonna cab it. I wanted to be in walking distance but the hotel is about $100 cheaper. Usually I like to go all out but hard times.

Of course, the St. James Inn (521 W. Bay St.) is close and would be an interesting experience. Think accommodations (and clientel) similar to Elwood Blues' accommodations.

There are a number of hotels from Super 8 to Days In and LaQuinta a few exits south of downtown on I-95 (I wouldn't go north of downtown unless you're by the airport).

In either case, cost of cabfare may wipe out a good portion of your hotel savings. In most cases you're 5-7 miles outside of downtown. Cabs can soak you $60+ from the airport.

I was actually thinking about just saying fuck it and going to this show. There is still a buy link on Wilcoworld, but no tickets are showing up when I search ticketmaster. Oh well... Maybe if two tickets show up on VC, I'll go.

I have an extra ticket at the moment, but haven't decided to sell it. No one has clamored for it.

  9. Great info on places to hang.

Does anyone have any information on a hotel that is within walking distance from theatre. I am coming up from South Florida and would like to find a place to stay for 1 night that is close to place.

    Thanks in adnvace.

    Suites

Depends on how much you want to spend. There's a Hyatt-Regency on Bay Street -- about 2.5 blocks from the Theatre. There's also the Jacksonville Omni, with is a little more than a half-mile west. Both fairly pricey. There are several hotels on the South Bank, which would be a decidedly longer walk.

  10. I have a digital version as well as, a VHS copy that I got in the early 1990s. It is out there to be had - no reason to pay money for such a thing.

I have a copy that I dubbed from a VHS tape in the mid 1980s. I just remember Billy Preston being like a ray of sunshine.

Maybe McCartney has cause to want to keep this under wraps. This movie, and his handling of the breakup really turned me off on him.

Another Beatles-oriented tape that I would love to see rereleased is the Compleat Beatles, a mid-80s, 90-minute documentary that makes a great companion piece to "All You Need is Cash."
