  1. I saw him on 3/31 at the Hollywood Bowl. It was such an incredible show - if he announces dates near you, Go! The man is in amazing shape - musically speaking. He played for 3 hours and the whole thing sounded fantastic. His band is really talented and they sure know how to rock. All the old tunes are still in the original keys and Sir Paul's voice still sounds amazing.

The setlists are pretty much the same for each show, but some great surprises when I went included "And I Love Her" and "I've Just Seen A Face." Loved the Wings tunes. I hadn't really listened to the Firemen album much, but those songs actually rock pretty hard and I've since picked up that album. He played "Let Em In" and dedicated it to Linda - it was really a really heartfelt and honest performance. The tributes to John and George were really cool too. It's so interesting to listen to Sir Paul tell all his stories. He's really quite charming, humble/genuine, and very funny. It was so incredible to hear all the Beatles tunes live. "Helter Skelter" was crazy and had a cool video showing footage shot from the front of a moving rollercoaster. There was also a really ridiculous freak-out section in that song that really just rocked my face right off. "Let It Be" is one of my favorites and it was really awesome to hear the Man do it live. Also, Live and Let Die included some incredible pyro on the stage floor and fireworks shooting from the top of the Bowl - Very Awesome!!!

I can't say enough about this show. It was almost a week ago and I'm still feeling awesome from it. The only other show I have enjoyed as much as Sir Paul and The Firemen was when I saw Wilco last summer at the Wiltern.

  2. Agreed. I love Wilco but they hardly improvise a single note or drum beat all night long.

Are we listening to the same band? I don't think Wilco ever plays an entire song, note for note, the same from night to night. There's always a basic form and structure, they are always playing the same chord changes and what-not, but there is different mood, fills, etc - even the way Jeff sings things each time is different... As it should be. This is one of the many reasons I love Wilco. I like music as an art-form that is constantly changing and evolving. Think about how songs like Spiders and Sunken Treasure have evolved and appeared in different incarnations over time... The art changes as the feeling of the artist expelling it changes. You just think it all sounds the same because these guys are such good damn musicians that it all just sounds right, every time.

I'm pretty happy with this now. It's in my itunes. There are still a lot of other great songs...

  4. I love this record. I started listening to Wilco around the time this came out, though I was actually given AM to listen to first and then A Ghost Is Born. I do love YHF, but A Ghost Is Born is my personal favorite Wilco album. The sound of the album is just so sweet to my ears. At Least That's What You Said is a killer way to open an album and Muzzle Of Bees might be my favorite Wilco song. I think that it's such a rockin' album with an incredible flow. I love all the songs - not that I have that much to complain about with the other albums.

Sky Blue Sky is kind of a weird one with me. I actually really like it quite a lot, but I just never seem to want to put it on. When I am looking through cd's or tracks on the computer, I see SBS and I just don't ever think to put it on. But when I do, I absolutely remember how many awesome songs it really has on it. There are some tracks that I cannot listen to repeatedly on this disc, though - unlike Ghost. I think time has been good to Sky Blue Sky for my ears.

I really liked WTA when I first got it. I must have listened to it for two months straight. I've taken a break on it - but it does have some quality tracks and some similarities to A Ghost Is Born (mood, some sequences bits, etc.) I think time will be good to WTA. You can't deny One Wing and Bull Black Nova. Those are two strong tracks.

Like others have said - I go back and forth on which albums I like in what order, however AGIB is pretty much always at the top for me. YHF and Being There are probably pretty close for second...

  5. Here's a link to my solo myspace.

My band hasn't gotten any pages together yet. We're still working on mixing our demos and recording some other things. We did a cover of Ashes Of American Flags, which will be up on our band pages when we get them together. I will post a link to all that when it's ready.

I also have a reverbnation page with a few more songs than the myspace, so you can search me there too.

    Hope you enjoy!

  6. Just downloaded the Dekalb show. Very awesome, spirited and emotional show. Love the old school Sunken Treasure with the new line up.

The September 19th show is awsome too. Nels joins the band for Handshake Drugs. At the end Jeff comments about hm being the greatest guitar player in the world. Can't say I disagree.

  7. Pick pretty much any live version you want of any of these tunes and the solos will be phenomenal. I had the pleasure of hearing In A Future Age at my first show this past summer in Los Angeles - one of my favorites and has stellar guitar parts the way they do it live. Ashes of American Flags from the same-ly titled DVD is a particularly awesome version... as is the one on Kicking Television.

    in no particular order:

    Spiders (Kidsmoke)

    Impossible Germany

    You Are My Face

    Ashes Of American Flags

    Hell Is Chrome

    Handshake Drugs

    Muzzle of Bees

At Least That's What You Said

    In A Future Age

    One Wing

I'm ashamed to leave off Side With The Seeds... also Bull Black Nova. And Far, Far Away. And Hoodoo Voodoo - especially with the dueling guitar solos at the end that were played this summer. So badass. There are just too many to pick only ten. I tried.

Edit: More Like The Moon is killer. Especially the few live versions there are.

  8. I just picked up a used Fender Super Champ XD for a pretty good price. I thought the sound was pretty decent - and then I hooked my 12' cab from my Epiphone Valve Jr. Stack and I couldn't believe my ears. The sound was incredible. I've been looking for something that might be a bit more portable and give off a little more body and tone than the Valve Jr (which I love, it's just bulky and has it's limits... though I haven't modded it at all). I only really use the clean all-tube 15 watt channel without any of the modifiers built into the second channel. I have never enjoyed the sound of my Telecaster without any effects quite as much as I do now that I have discovered this new combination of Fender/Epiphone goodness. Of course I put a little bit of that old Fender Reverb on, but no overdrives or compressors or delays (of course it sounds great when I turn on all the pedals too).

I'm thinking of trying to change out the speaker in the Super Champ all together. The sound through the 12" cab is just so much more full and kick ass, but the idea of getting the amp was easier portability to practice. It currently has a 10' Fender/Jensen special design thing - it's not a terrible sound, it's just thin and doesn't quite give off the same magic as the 12". If anyone has any thoughts on speaker replacements - brands, where to look, etc? - please send them along.

Just thought I'd share my awesome new find.

  9. Ha. The first time I listened to YHF - I distinctly remember hearing Radio Cure and instantly loving the vibe of the whole song. The words caught me and sent me into thought. The beat bounced me along in a nice little groove. Dirge is probably the last word I would have come up with - I think this song really moves, it's just in a much more subtle way.

Funny how subjective an experience listening to music can be.

  10. I recently downloaded the London, Apollo show from 2005. It's a soundboard show - so the quality is great. Pretty great setlist - for my taste.

Also the Greek Theatre show from 8/24/07. This is a matrix source and also sounds great. Another great setlist. Gotta love a Sunken Treasure opener and In A Future Age>Spiders (Kidsmoke).
