  1. I've only had a brief scour through this thread in the short time I have, and agree with a number of choices. Wilco, obviously, MMJ / Jim James, Conor Oberst / Bright Eyes, Ryan Adams all immediately spring to mind, but has anyone mentioned Super Furry Animals / Gruff Rhys? Surely contenders?!

  2. As ever, I return from my sabbatical (that's what I like to call these break from VC - usually coinciding with a shitload of work!) to somethingw orth checking out. I love this place!

Thought she was great on Jools Holland a few weeks / months back too. Admittedly, she didn't look all that bad either which mighta helped!

  3. Not quite as good as Wilco last week but still pretty damn shit hot! Had the feel of an 'open mic' at times which should've been nicer than it was but venue kinda swamped it a bit. Didn't see Wilco at Troxy so don't know what folk thought then but personally I wasn't that fussed on it as a venue last night.

Drummer (forget his name, forgive me) did a good job when called upon and sang a lovely song - Just To Know What You've Been Dreaming - whih was a pleasant surprise. Jim / Yim just blows me away every time I see him. Seen Conor on better form with MVB but still impressive and great to hear some rare Bright Eyes songs. M Ward I like but hadn't seen before and he was mighty impressive too.

Star of the show has to be Mogis though, unbelievable!! Stellar work on the pedal steel, mandolin and extra guitar...something else!

Ripped the setlist of the MOF board cos if I'm honest, I'd p'raps had a bit too much beer to remember it all in order ;)

  4. 56 years since Wales last won, but the excitement is there every time.

This from last year - the always fantastic Haka, and then the most spine tingling minute of sporting theatre I have ever experienced - and no one was actually doing anything. The crowd goes mental.

Wales accept the challenge of the Haka

Meanwhile back in the Welsh Pot noodle mines ...

    Ah, another Welshman!

I remember that last year...was brilliant! More of the same tomorrow I hope...with a better result of course!

  5. Second the Big Star shout - loving that!

Also, Billy Bragg - Volume 1 & Volume 2. Slightly bending the rules because it was a re-release of all his albums (up to England, Half English and omiitting the Mermaid Avenue stuff) but...

...each album had a bonus disc of unreleased outtakes, demos, sessions, etc. And each box had a bonus DVD with Southbank show, live performances, etc. So, even if you take the re-released albums out of the package, you got 7 discs of unreleased stuff and a DVD in each volume!

Plus, I'm bias where Billy Bragg is concerned ;)

  6. Yep, I concur with all thoughts here! I think there's always gigs to do it the old way (in London there are anyway) but most high profile gigs go the 'new way'...

I think our attitudes change over time. If I ain't playing or it's not a day off next day, it has to be new way I'm afraid!

  7. Thanks bro~

And please know that the criticism that I leveled at your tunes was only because, well... you asked for it!

Seriously, I do like the tunes and I think that they will grow on me even more. I just know that, as a musician myself, I'd rather have an honest critique than a dishonest butt kissing.

Thanks for sending it out. Looking forward to digging in even more!

Honest critique all the way bro, exactly what we're after, cheers!

PS - Post's gone a bit crazy this end, hope it makes it through this side of Xmas! ;)

  8. Thanks guys!

Five String seems to have been picked up on by a few people actually, nice to see some consistent thoughts :) Fireworks too seems to get a few ears pricked..

Todd, thanks for your critique. Glad you like it at least, and hope it'll grow a bit more :) Next session will be a more plugged in affair too and a bit more varied we hope, due prob Feb time so when you put em together it'll hopefully work ;)

Must point out too, not my singing I'm afraid. I predominantly play bass though me fingerprints are on there in the way of harmonica, mandolin & banjo too.

Hope others are enjoying, do lettuce know your thoughts, good, bad & constructive, should the urge take you.

PS - Todd, hard copy will be in the post this weekend!
