Livin' in New Orleans

This thread inspired me to listen to this song for the first time in a long while. I'd forgotten how great it is! Better than anything that made it on (the album), I'd say. In the end, it's just good to know that Wilco still has it in them, even if (the album) is underwhelming.

 

(And I think "Solitaire" is one of the better tracks on (the album).)

I wouldn't call the Album underwhelming by any means...

"Solitaire" makes me mad for some reason.

Solitaire is one of my favorite tracks on the album, so I agree with the other guy on this one

I cannot complain, as I am pleased with (the Album). However, I just love this bonus track

I love the album versions of Ashes, Poor Places, and Reservations... love them in the studio, and some of them have even more life live (IATTBYH, Ashes, etc)

I loved the Red-Eyed/I Got You/Someone Else's Song run they used to do, and I'm Always in Love with that bitchin' riff, circa 2000.

I also like the current rendition of I'm Always In Love... pretty rockin

I agree, Pot Kettle Black has definitely been a recent highlight.

Yes. The part that starts with "Lazy Locomotives" is pretty breathtaking for me. I also love the recent renditions of Kamera

No matter what, WIlco is simply kicking ass live.. they are so inventive, adding muscle and nuance to already great songs. I love it.

oh yeah favorite live song...hmmmmm....I always request Forget the Flowers because I fancy that song a lot, but from what I've experienced, I'm gonna choose ...

I would die of happiness if this magical event was to occur.

The more I listen to SBS and grow to enjoy it, the more I also enjoy W(TA).

 

When each new album comes out it has a way of seeming fleeting; I'll listen to it for a while, but it will make me miss old Wilco. What's missing from the new albums, to me, is the emotional connection I build with them over time - not unlike moving to a new home. Now that I'm listening more to SBS I found that, without thinking I did, I have built an emotional connection to a lot of the songs.

 

With W(TA), there are a few songs that I'm sentimentally attached to at this point, but it doesn't have the lived-in feel that other albums have. I can call it anything I like, but the simple fact is that each album feels the way it does to me because of how I've broken them in over the years. I shouldn't expect this one to feel "lived-in" until I've lived in it for a while.

Agreed. I tend to associate music with different times, and I started to think that W (TA) wasn't clicking, but now I realize that I associate it with the frenzied excitement of the leak, and then listening to the songs when the album came out in June.. it was a happy time, summer and all, and I associate the album with it

I enjoy W(TA)... good songs, as a whole it doesn't match up to the others for me, but this could change with time. Regardless, the three song of Deeper Down, One Wing, and Bull Black Nova makes it wort it.. I also like Country Disappeared and Solitaire a lot.

Radiohead may actually be recording another one...I am already excited

As a whole, do you listen to the studio record, and the other records, more than the live stuff, or vice versa?

I can see comparing WTA to In Rainbows much more than to AWWTM.

 

However, In Rainbows is by far the superior record. I mean no offense to Wilco, but In Rainbows still blows me away every time.

I gotta agree here.. I do enjoy W(TA) but In Rainbows is a definite chill inducer

Maybe they will release another live CD? It's been a while since Kicking Television.
