  1. I really think that even with the mixing and all as is, it is my favorite Wilco record. This is because, for me at least, I can't find a group of so many good songs on any other album

  2. Studio. They are great live, but Heavy Metal Drummer and Jesus Etc are much better in the studio.

How about Jeff Tweedy solo versions? I am Trying to Break Your Heart wins in that fashion for me.

Yeah that's a pretty great version.. I mean it's basically the bare bones of the song

  3. I was just curious what you guys think... I have always had fun by trying to decide which I like better. The sounds on YHF are just awesome, and I know that they are the permanent artistic statement. However, I love what the band has done with them live..

PS: I just felt like some YHF discussion.. since there hasn't been nearly enough discussion about this record...ha

  4. I found a lone copy hiding at the top of the music section in the magazine aisle at my grocery store, turned backwards :lol

Does anyone know a few places where Spin would be sold?

  5. You said when you searched for "nels cline" on VC you came up with too many responses to wade through. Read a few of those, and you'll definitely see that isn't the case for a lot of fans. A LOT of fans.

I gotta be honest... the bandmember I watch the most = Pat Sansone... he's just so cool to watch

  6. I think Jeffs guitar work has improved 100% sense the addition of Nels. Nels has brought more to the band then just his superb play but also his influence and technique on the way Tweedy approaches the guitar.

Agreed... Nels is comparable to a great power hitter in a baseball lineup... he makes the players around him better

  7. He is getting older and with his spine problems as he explains in ashes of american flags, I could see him out of the band within 5 years. I think he is a very good player and the band won't kick him out but he will probably move on or retire so to speak. Wilco has a grueling schedule and so far only two men have lasted, whose to say whats next. Eventhough jeff says he is happy with the form of the band, something like a health problem would be one of the only reasons to break these 6 guys up. He just wants to defy gravity and float but his body doesnt like when he goes nuts on stage. Who would replace him? What do you think? Do they even need a replacement with tweedy and pat playing as well as they have?

True, Jeff and Pat play very well... but no one is like Nels..

  8. In all honesty, if anyone ends the Jeff/Nels partnership, it'll be Nels, just because of all his other work, and the fact that he's considerably older than the rest of the band.

And seriously, why did you make this your first thread?

Hahahah well said... a true baptism by fire.. the fierce flames of VCers

  9. Anyone who is bitching at Analogman about bitching at people who are bitching... needs to chill the hell out. Whether you consider his posts lectures or not, he provides valuable information to people, as well as providing major service to anyone interested in getting these shows.

You may be interested to know that there is an "ignore" feature on this board. If you're so bugged by someone, feel free to use it. Oh wait, how do you do use that feature? Well, I didn't know, but I happened to read a very informative post about it earlier today: http://forums.viachicago.org/topic/40944-ignore/page__p__1350534entry1350534

So by your own rules that you just stated... aren't you "bitching?" Also, for the record, I was completely calm when I wrote that post... no chilling necessary. On a relevant note... I wish I went to this show

  10. Wilco does not allow Soundboard patches, although it appears to happen once in a blue moon. We put up all the Wilco and related recordings we can get - regardless of the year or tour. We are not interested in the sound quality of shows (or I'm not, anyhow), but rather archiving all the shows we can get. Of course, some sound better than others.

People who want to bitch about the sound of AUD tapes should remember we are lucky to have them in the first place. If you listen to more shows than just the show you are after, you will grow accustom to the sound. I think in the beginning people freak a little due to the fact that they have only heard polished up official live album releases.

It is also to important to remember that not all Wilco shows get taped. We have many blank spots on our list - for just the last tour alone.

Well, I think you need to chill out with your lectures to people... I mean it's OK for people who aren't taping experts to make observations and inquiries about the sound quality of late. I didn't see any "bitching" in the posts... also, there is no need for you to lecture people for asking whether or not a recording has surfaced. It is also OK to wonder where a show is, especially if you don't know all the places to check. This lecture about "bitching" makes it seem like we are all ungrateful to the band, and that we should be sorry for not being as saintly and thankful as you.... Obviously we are grateful that recordings are available.. who wouldn't?!?

  11. I think the simple explanation is that in the summer, they play outdoor amphitheatres, and in the winter they play indoor theaters and clubs. It's been that way for some time.

Also, they're touring behind a new album this summer, so there's more publicity and whatnot than in the off-season, so to speak. (Last winter was a little different because they were coming off the residency and thus did have a wave of publicity to ride, but still).

Very true, I have mixed feelings... Great news for the band, as this wave of publicity that comes with a new record is well earned in the pop-centered world in which we live. However, I love venues that are more unique than verizon wireless ampitheaters

  12. I realize those things. It was just an observation, not an attack on anyone or a complaint. I understand if it came off that way, but those are not my intentions. I'm totally appreciative of the effort that people put forth to not only capture the recordings, but to make them available. Check your tone with me, son. :thumbup

Check out the NYC Taper recording of the Wappingers Falls show the other night... very pristine all around. As for the recording of this show, this was in a theater, correct? That could be good news for you

  13. 7 new tunes! It's almost starting to look like they're touring in support of a new album...

Looks like a great set, I wonder if they really are gonna bring 'Kicking Television' back...missed it at the Residency. :ohwell

Awesome... and what a great set list (Summer Teeth, Magazine, Reservations, to name a few) And they played I'll Fight!

  14. I may just be completely wrong, but have you all noticed that the band is playing different sorts of venues than the 2008 tour(s)? I noticed that many of last year's venues were the sorts of uniquely American types like the ones portrayed in the DVD... This year, however, seems more like old auditoriums, amphitheaters, and ballparks... not always the case, just a general observation. AND I just read that Wilco is coming to play Farm-aid in my native St. Louis at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater... just can't picture Wilco playing there...

  15. Dude, ease up on the thread-starting, it's not the end of the world.

EDIT: My bad, you deleted the other one. :D

I only use VLC for video.

I've never compared the two audio-wise.

I hate iTunes mostly for the memory it uses. Slows my computer down like a mutha. But, I don't think VLC stores a database of files, does it?

Nope that's correct... It's more like a playlist... just plays whatever u click on that is set to open in there... it's just weird... I adjusted the volume of the individual tracks, and it sounds ALMOST as good as VLC now

  16. i havent heard the vinyl, but i too have some reservations about the sound of this new album. it does sound compressed and loud. AGIB and SBS really felt as if there was space between the instruments. not the case with WTA. even though i like most of the tunes on the album, i haven't been listening much...at least not as much as AGIB. i also think there is a bit more production sheen on this album, ala summerteeth. lots of echoed voice and reverb in some spots. i miss that straight, warm, in-room sound of the last few albums.

It is very worth hearing it on vinyl, trust me! It is just a much more warm and inviting sound. As a good friend put it, "it is like the band is right here in the room."
