  1. This seems to be the most complete tab around. Also has the riff that Jeff plays at the end of this (http://stereogum.com...ve-video/news/)) video. Enjoy.

*Note: the chords seem to not line up with the words. it shouldn't be to hard to figure out after a couple listens but if there are any questions just let me know.

    Dawned on Me

    Drop C (CGCFAD)

All chords relative to tuning. Pat plays almost the same chords but in standard tuning (C, F, Dm, G).

  2. I agree with you. The shock factor is gone from the freakout version, and it's even a little too much for me at times. I'd be happy to hear something closer to the studio version in all its prettiness.

The album version is actually two different takes, one calm, one freakout, mixed together. That is what they are doing on stage. I'm pretty sure the live version is as close to the album version as you are going to get.
  3. As I'm sure most of you know Wilco has teamed up with Patagonia and Head Count to get people to vote this up coming election. Just thought I'd share this blog post, from the Red Butte to Missoula shows (there is a previous blog post about Red Rocks as well), not only because they are pretty good reviews of the shows and compare them to the other nights but also because the 'kid' they talk about in the last paragraph of the Missoula show is me and I figured I might as well share part of my 15 minutes. Enjoy.

  4. They played Born Alone on Letterman, Whole Love on Conan, and Dawned on Me for the Conan web exclusive so all of those songs are out for Jimmy Fallon. On the Wilco facebook page, they posted a photo of the rehearsal, and Nels had the green Hopf guitar, Jeff had an SG, and Pat was at his keyboard station so I'm with Andrew, it's Capitol City. (Unless it's Art of Almost and Jeff picked up his guitar early before Pat came out from his keyboard station and picked up his Tele.)

At the same time I have seen Jeff pick up his guitar early and I don't see a capo on 3 like you would for Capitol City. Hm....?

  5. I think it is awesome. Wilco doesn't seem like a band that will change there tapping policy seeing as they are all guys who have listened to and enjoyed tapes from live shows. But now we have the option to buy a guaranteed high quality version of live shows... why not?

  6. This has been my rainy day project for a little while now. It still needs a lot of work. There are really no GREAT videos. The best one is from the Ashes of American Flags DVD, which is what this whole tab is based off of (and my untrustworthy ears). I figured I'd post what I'm 90% sure about and see what people had to correct/add to the tab (hint: solos).

I was scared to work on this originally because I only have an acoustic guitar and wasn't sure if this was a song that could be play well acoustically. Then I found a copy of Jeff playing it at the 2/13/09 Vic show and thought it sounded pretty damn good.

The tune is in open G (DGDGBD) and the second walk down seems to be almost identical to the one Jeff plays in his solo version of Acuff-Rose. I've kind of made my way through the solos with about 30% accuracy but I think someone with a better sense of scale structure and a better ear could figure it out easier and better.

So please, give her a look. Correct. Add. Enjoy.

  8. When people need a quick name for a new song, they just pick up on repeated phrases in the new song they hear in concert. It happened to Radiohead with Nude, which was known as Big Ideas (even though a minute portion of Radiohead fans were calling it Nude while they were testing it for like those 10 years). I can only assume the same thing happened to Laminated Cat (Not For The Season).

EDIT: I may be mistaken, but I thought Wilco occassionally writes Not For The Season on their setlists as well sometimes.

Wilco recorded demos of that song for Yankee Hotel Foxtrot that are still around titled under "Not For the Season" but they were never released under that title obviously. I'm sure that's where the name comes from originally.
