  1. A former student who graduated last year emailed me last night to let me know that he'll have his own show on the UConn radio station next semester. "I'll be sure to squeeze in as much Waits and Wilco as possible." Yes, it's true: we are blatantly trying to indoctrinate your children. And sometimes it works.

  2. You listened to what they just made without him, right?

Yes, and I love the hell out of it. So why are you put out by my comment? Seems like a lot of people around here would like to redo damn near everything Wilco has done - substitute songs, change the tracking order, different configurations of the band etc. I'm not saying let Jim take over, just that I love what Jeff has done with Jim.

  3. We love this one end to end. One of my favorite road memories is driving home from norther Vermont with my then 13 year-old daughter, blasting Being There and singing our way through it like blissed out idiots as we cruised through the Green Mountains. When my daughter immitated the wet-lung hack late in "Dreamer..", before the band kicks back in, I almost pissed myself.

  4. "Not so much a reflection on the album as much as a fan base that evolved with the band. Am I all wet?" I think that's a pretty fair assessment.

It's not on the top of my list, but I do like AM and it does show a nacent band getting its footing in the wake of an acrimonious break-up. I've never seen them crank up Casino Queen and would love to hear that in a future show. Wilco (the Album) is a great batch of songs with great playing and nuance; it's just a bit mellower than the previous albums. I love them all for what they are and appreciate every incarnation of Wilco. I don't get the nostalgia for what was to the detraction of what is; those bands arent' coming back so it's useless to pine for "the good old days." Love the band your with, eh? I don't know if there are any King Crimson fans here, but it has always been grating to hear the older fans piss and moan about the American members tainting a British band and how much they loathe Adrian Belew (another alien guitarist; I'd love to see Nels and Adrian work up some glorious noise) and it was always so much better in the 69 band or the 73-74 band, blah-blah-blah. It's all good and nobly executed; if you don't like it, listen to the ones you prefer. We all know what they say about opinions, right? And mine stinks, too. Off the soapbox and into the kitchen - a nice bottle of temperanillo and a woman await.

  5. We were in row N and everyone was up and dancing from the start except the stodgy couple seated next to us. They sat for 90% of the show. My daughter was wondering why they came. Killer show from start to finish. We were relieved that they actually told the crowd to get up and make noise at the Sullivan Theater last night. Sitting through Wilco would just plain suck.

  6. I missed the streaming of the album earlier in the month, but I sense you folks have been listening to this since then. Did folks download it from somewhere? I heard the handful of songs they did at SS and the few they have posted and would love to hear some more of this. Any suggestions on where I can get this? (I've already pre-ordered the deluxe set so I'm not looking to screw the band out of their hard-earned dollar). Thanks, George

  7. I am desperately looking for 2 tix for any of the NYC or Boston shows. If one were available, I would gratefully snap that up. Now to reach really deep, if 3 were available my 16 year-old daughter would be in heaven.

    Looking for a miracle,

    George P
