  1. Yee gods. What a run. Can't wait for the torrents to start popping up for this last show in particular, but every show this week had something special.

Some people were asking me after the show last night about how many songs they played over the five nights this time and I just went through and counted them up. I came up with a total of 100 different songs played over the course of this run.

That includes Outtasite (Outta Mind) and Outta Mind (Outta Sight) as separate songs, but only counts Spiders once, even though the acoustic version is a vastly different song than the regular one. And it also includes Cruel To Be Kind, You Are Not Alone and The Weight from the first night (doesn't that seem like a long time ago?)

Not sure exactly how that compares to the Residency — don't have time to go back and count those up right now — but still a pretty awesome run overall. Thanks, Wilco! :thumbup

  2. I have a single extra ticket available for the Riverside show tomorrow - Right Center, Row AA - don't get too excited, this is not in the front, but about 26 rows back - still on the floor. Face value is $44, but I'm more than willing to give this to someone who is down on their luck and dying to go to this. (early Xmas present?) I believe the show is sold out.

If you can meet me outside the venue @ around 7:30 pm, that would be great. Send me a PM if you are interested.

  3. MMJ (it's still decent and better than Evil Urges, but wish i loved it more)

Jason Isbell (my least favorite of his 3 by a wide margin)

Radiohead (again, not awful, but i would really have liked to love more than 3 songs)

Beastie Boys (also way better than To The Five Boroughs, but i still had zero interest in continuing to listen further after a half dozen spins)

Black Joe Lewis (loved his EP and first LP, but this one falls flat minus a few tracks)

Elbow (gorgeous, but a let down after their last stunner)

How about The Strokes - Angles? Probably another disappointment, but I kinda like that record - at least the first half.

The Kills - Blood Pressures - thoughts?

  4. It was just about perfect of an evening. We got a lot of treats: acoustic Bull Black Nova, acoustic Kicking Television, Rainbow Connection (!? - yes, the Kermit song), Let Me Come Home + Panthers (which I got to join him on), No More Poetry (Russ), Family Gardener (ditty), Either Way (Atticus), a Tweedy confrontation over covers vs. his songs (timewasajoke) followed by When You Wake Up Feeling Old. I'll leave the official setlist to others and babble nonsensically about how amazing it was.

Lovely, lovely house at the Jules residence. :wub Weather couldn't have cooperated any more - some rain blew right through and the skies were clear well before Jeff & Sue showed up. And it was nice and cool after the rain as well, another bonus.

  5. Allow me to clarfy that Nels would be hard to outshine on a guitar solo and although if it were serious, Pat wouldn't stand a chance. In the spirit of fun, Jeff could step inbetween the two and rattle off an extended solo to end it all (just to show them whose signing the paychecks)! All in good fun! A few windmills and maybe even have an egg whisk on hand!! At least that's the way it works in my mind!!

  6. Ah, yes. A song from the Old Country! A Box Full of Letters was great. As I think about it, that would be a really good song to point to. You know, raise your hand in the air and just point the sh*t out of it?

A song that will never be the same since someone planted "I've got a Box Full of Cheddars, that you might like to eat." lyric in my head.

Great seeing everyone. Definitely had the pre-party vibe of a Solid Sound warmup. :cheers

  7. I, too, was a barricade yo-yo - went up, got shooed down by security, and invited back up by Jeff. I had a 5th row seat, though, so I didn't have to stray too far.

The Smith Westerns looked really uncomfortable with the really distant crowd, too, and even made a comment along the lines of "hope you guys are having a good time in your seats."

It would have been fun to hear the Poor Places > Reservations > Spiders encore, but I enjoyed the rockin' one too.

    Gawd, I miss that one.

  8. *Jeff came out pretty promptly at 9 p.m. and played until about 10:35. Thought we might get one more new song, but maybe he'll do a different one tomorrow night. I was just as glad to get a second listen to the one I'm calling "Open Up Your Mind." It's definitely got some interesting, very poetically crafted lyrics, and a folky feel to it.

This was the one he played at the Rahm fundraiser?

  9. I was going to ask why you said hilarious, but I think I found the clip and "somebody" looks like it was JC Brooks himself! That is pretty hilarious that he was shooting video while simultaneously soundchecking the song...:lol

It was fun to see that performance. It looked like Jeff had some lyric sheets at his feet (perhaps Dude can confirm?), which I can almost understand because the JC Brooks version has such a different rhythm from how Jeff/Wilco does IATTBYH/Theologians that it would be easy to get tripped up lyrically if you're used to singing it another way.

Yeah! It was def. a IATTBYH lyric prompt sheet. Here's a pic of the sheet and a few Tweedy shots during the JC Brooks set:

That was indeed JC Brooks taping during soundcheck. It was funny because I sneaked in (I didn't even mean to, it was freaking cold and I merely wanted the warmth of the lobby, but volunteers were excessively nice and cool w/ me getting my ticket early.) I saw him singing in the corner and with a little blinkety red light'd device during the soundcheck, and wondered if he was indeed taping. Sho 'nuff, he was.

Are females going to start talking about how "spexxy" Tweedy is?
