  1. What a show.

It was great meeting you, "The Other" Kevin! There's lots of pics of you on Facebook, some of which I took, which Maureen can hook you up with if you're not already on there.

Wish You Were Here was pretty phenomenal, that Jeff put effort into figuring out the solo shows he takes these shindigs pretty seriously. :yes

  2. By "incredible," do you people mean there was harmonized whistling on "Nothing Up My Sleeve"? Any whistling? Please?

Jeff whistled!! We whistled along a bit in unison. Or tried to at least.

Yes. Some guy has been requesting it for awhile, despite Jeff obviously not wanting to play it. Jeff legitimately didn't remember the song when asked about it by said guy. Jeff finally gave in to the persistent freak this year though, and it was incredible. :ninja It sounded like Jeff had been playing it for years.

I'm so glad you kept requesting, Chris. Persistence pays off...

  3. Amazing night. Great getting up to play and harmonize on She's a Jar with The Man and not completely sucking in the process. :blink Unforgettable experience.

Ditty / Matt - had no idea you were proposing. Randomly picked you just because you were sitting there and seemed like you wanted to be picked. :blush In retrospect, I'm probably one of the few people who didn't know.

Maureen & family - amazing job hosting, fantastic location to have these things. And I've been to a few of these.

Great seeing Heather & Russ, Edie, Wendy, Warner, Beltmann, Jules, Ken D, Matt Z, Tweedling & Mrs. Tweedling, Gewee, Greg, Matt & Kathy, Beth, the Tweedy entourage and everyone else. Here's to many more hopefully - there is a glimmer of hope that it will be done again down the road.

  4. Good show, they played several new songs and closed with another Big Star cover, You Can't Have Me. And Lincoln Hall's a fun venue to see shows in. Even during the mellow vibe of the Autumn Defense set (which John self-effacingly poked fun at), Pat still found room to shred on his Tele.

  5. This is pretty common knowledge, but the only reason Palin has been a vocal supporter of Israel (this and several other occasions) is because she is a crazedy Evangelical who believes a strong Israeli government is a prerequisite for Jesus Christ Almighty to swoop down in his Holy-Copter and shoot the living crap out of some wolves.

  6. It kind of bugs me that for all the hand-wringing in this country about parental guidance and keeping kids from being exposed to graphic sexual content at an early age, in every checkout aisle at every grocery store in the country, right on the cover of Cosmopolitan and other women's mags, kids can get quite an education on how to have the best orgasms, how to please their men, what guys really want in bed, etc.

Indeed, those mags are filthier / more pornographic than Playboy ever was.

  7. People who misunderstand something you just said to them (or even to someone else), and they ponderously over-explain what they thought you said (which is generally slightly "risque" or "perverted") and they proceed to repeat the mishearing over and over, sometimes to others, in a manner that (jokingly, but annoyingly) suggests that you actually do the thing they thought they heard.

That's probably the last time you'll make a joke about f*@#ing sheep. ;)

  8. I called Homeland Security on account of my 3 year old daughter always yelling “jihad Taliban, jihad Taliban, jihad Taliban” turns out she was really just begging to watch her favorite show, Ni Hao Kailan. Whoops – my bad, but I think she learned a lesson- what that lesson is, I’m not sure, but whatever.

    To stop watching crappy shows?

  9. Particularly awful were close-up shots of people being interviewed, such as the Kot and Grier interviews. They aren't just grainy, they're spotty.

I guess I wonder whether those grains / spots would go away with the increased resolution of BluRay. Since the grain is in the film itself, and would exist whether translated to DVD or BluRay, my guess is no. Resolution would come into play if you saw heavy pixelation - i.e. squares, staircases or aliasing - but it sounds it's the grain in the film itself that you have issues with.

  10. Slip inside the eye of your mind

Don't you know you might find

    A better place to play

You said that you'd never been

But all the things that you've seen

    Will slowly fade away

So I start a revolution from my bed

'Cause you said the brains I had went to my head

Step outside the summertime's in bloom

    Stand up beside the fireplace

Take that look from off your face

You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out

So Sally can wait, she knows it's too late as we're walking on by

Her soul slides away, but don't look back in anger

    I heard you say

Take me to the place where you go

Where nobody knows, if it's night or day.

Please don't put your life in the hands

Of a Rock 'n Roll band

    Who'll throw it all away

I'm gonna start the revolution from my bed

'Cos you said the brains I had went to my head

Step outside cos summertime's in bloom

    At least not today.

  11. Ob]FYI- you can take the south shore train from chicago to south bend for $22 round trip, and you can drink on the train![/b]

this is the day after my birthday, so i'd love to get together a nice train crew for this show!

Thanks for the heads up, mark me down as a Maybe.

  12. HPHS was practically my alma matter, I went to Deerfield High School and had plenty of friends who went to HPHS, so this hit pretty close to home.

When I was in 8th grade, Reagan flew in and gave a speech in the DHS gymnasium. That was a pretty big deal. Secret Service wound up detaining a kid for 8+ hours because he stupidly made a joke about shooting the President.
