  1. Good point about the scene with Enzo, "For your father. for your father" the Baker. The point in that scene that I always direct my film students to is when Michael says to Vito in the room, "It's OK Pop, I'm with you now."

From that point on he becomes the next Godfather.

  2. If I recall correctly (no guarantees) I was at that show, when he got busted off the stage in Saratoga

I also recall that Greg was yelling at Wylde for upstaging and playing metal licks. This was probably an idea which sounded good wired and hammered on JD the night before on the bus, but the reality was lacking.

  3. I would add that a neocon also veils itself as a friend to the "average guy", the NASCAR Dad or the Bible Belt citizen, pulling them along to accumulate votes. As a result of this courtship, we have begun to regress as a nation in both social and scientific progress. The neocon also disregards or manipulates the Constitution, knowing that it has the power to avoid any real judicial consequence.

It is my hope that if they cannot be eviscerated while living, that the legacy they leave shames their descendants with such an impact that their vast fortunes are spent rebuilding what has been destroyed.

As my beloved wife once said as we discussed this same subject, after I said, "I hope they can sleep at night with all the wrong they have brought to our country.

Her response, in an icy tone, "I hope they can't."

  4. Kind of Blue

    Sgt, Pepper

    Beatles 65

    Beatles Second Album

    Magical Mystery Tour

Original packaging for Concert For Bangladesh

I could go on. My Dad bequeathed upon me his record collection from 64-80 when he was quite the audiophile. When they retired and moved down south he gave me his record collection and his guitar. Haven't seen him since June, and can't wait for Christmas.

    Thanks for a great thread.

  5. When I was 12-13 and "hungry Like the Wolf" came out with all that moaning at the end - I think it triggered my ascent/descent into puberty. I just couldn't wait to see someone (whether on TV or eventually in person) make those same sounds.

    Still waiting.

  6. My first show was in Gilford, NH, as they opened up for Natalie Merchant on her American Folk Tour - I didn't get the noise the first time, but now I do ( I suppose).

  7. Please accept our condolences on your loss, and know that your family will be in the thoughts and prayers of others. May you find the strength needed to persevere through these sad days.

    Glenn, Christina, and Chloe Turgeon

  8. Goo Goo Dolls would be my first inclination, but after some thought it would have to be this band I saw open up for the Reverend Horton Heat and the Hackensaw Boys in Manchester who played death metal thrash covers of tv themes and popular dittys. Imagine a full on growl of the "Cheers" theme -

  9. I've read both "Sportswriter" and "independence Day" and I loved them both. I see his writings as well as Thomas McGuane's) as a form of contemporary male studies literature, as both authors seek to bring out the questions as to what it means to be a man, husband, father, employee, boyfriend, in these times. What does it mean as traditional powers and roles change, as patriarchal hierarchies (sp?) become archaeic, we are not our fathers or grandfathers in the days of ADD, AA, divorce, etc.,

Good stuff, and I would welcome the discussion.

Has anyone ever thought of a VC Book Club?

  10. It is my belief that 100 years from now, when 1992-2008 are but chapters in a history book, that favor will shine much more brightly on President Clinton than President Bush. There is a difference betweeen failing to respond properly, and manufacturing information that leads to the deaths of 3K Americans and 25K Iraqi civilians.

  11. I never "got" Nirvana, and I never believed that they were important, despite critics telling me so. I found them neither innovative nor influential - just well timed and marketed.

    IMHO - Overrated.

I always felt that they were like saying ,"Hey remember punk? That was fun! Well here it is again with more distortion."
