  1.

"What are you writing, Paul? Nevermind. It's none of my beeswax."

I was scribbling a bunch of notes during the interview portion and Jeff said that the lyrics for the songs on Sukierae came together during the last 6 months.  Listening to the songs post-interview made them THAT much more poignant.

It was interesting to hear Jeff talk about the next Wilco album and what goes into getting all the moving pieces of Wilco together and though he didn't give us a timetable for the next release, it sounds like they should be getting together soon to get the process started.

I was along the ramp on the floor and everyone came through loud and clear but I felt Darin's bass really thumping back there.

Liam Cunningham's solo during California Stars kicked @$$.

The interview portion was a little under an hour and things started a few minutes late. IIRC, Sound Opinions is about an hour long with commercial breaks so I'm curious to see if the interview gets cut down or if we have a special longer episode.  I'd gladly pay a few bucks or donate to WBEZ to have the full interview and show recording in podcast form.

  2. I'm heading to the Masonic Temple show, took a couple attempts but scored a ticket during the pre-sale.  Anywhere to eat in the area? I'll be staying with the in-laws in Ann Arbor and all I'm getting from them is "be careful where you park".

  3. There should be a tour poster for each show, but I don't believe there is anything separate for Wilco only.

Get 'em at the show if you want one. The Atlanta ones sold out before the night was even over. I kind of regret not buying one before Wilco's set, as I couldn't even find one by the time Dylan came on.

Excellent! I usually buy my poster before I get to my seat.  Thanks for the heads up.

  4. She's on NPR's Talk of the Nation right now.  She said some funny things about working with Jeff!  Even impersonated his nasal voice.  Bold!

Listening to her do that made me incredibly happy.  I want video of it!

  5. Just a big hug to all of you who were there and reported, it was incredible watching the songs roll in via Twitter.

NYCTaper: You're doing the lord's work and because of you I can now enjoy this amazing show.

Pyschotic Reaction was my favorite -so unexpected and so so so good.

You have all made me realize just how much I need to get my s- together and attend the next SSF, whenever that may be.

  6. I love this:

STEREOGUM: When you were going in to start the work on One True Vine, what was the conversation like between you and her? Did she have some ideas about what she wanted to do with it, or was it more like, “Let’s keep this vibe going and see what happens?”

TWEEDY:: We did talk about it. Pretty early on after the last record, she expressed some interest in making another record. And when the time came, she had a specific idea in mind. She wanted to make a record just her and I, or at least start on a record just the two of us. I don’t know if in her mind it was going to end up being just an acoustic guitar and the two of us. We did some versions of songs on the last record like that as promotion. We actually got asked to play together, and it was fun to do, so I think she wanted to start there. And I think once we got the ball rolling like that, my son Spencer was on spring break, and he plays the drums, so he was around, and he ended up playing some drums on some stuff. Nobody else was around because we didn’t really plan on anybody else being on the record, so I ended up playing a lot of the instruments. And then it kind of took on a life of its own and ended up being more fleshed out than just Mavis and I singing duets. But the idea was to come at it from a very different angle than the last one.

...from meeting everyone in line, to nearly getting hit by a car as I fetched a box out of the Tweedy's trunk, to passing out during the first night and rebounding for the 2nd, it was nice to be part of a larger group of Jeff Tweedy fans.  Can't wait to see some of your again at SSF and then at the benefit shows next year.

You were a delight.  Have fun at SSF and see you next year.

  8. And as if the glow of the screens isn't bad enough, people are also quite comfortable shooting photos and videos with their interrogation-style flashes on full power. Here's a new question for Jeff: Do you think one audience could agree to put their electronic devices away for an entire show and survive?  This a noble challenge, people. Let's try it.

    This. 1000x this.

It seemed like there was more flash/shutter sounds at last night's show.  It's really frustrating and distracting to sit next to someone who hasn't quite figured out how to use their cell phone camera.  Let's all just sit back and enjoy and not obsess over posting a picture to Facebook / Twitter / Instagram, etc.

  9. I think I might just be up for that. I didn't know if the Gold Circle tickets were in the pit, and having never been to the Vic, I didn't want to risk it, as sometimes getting pit tickets can mean you are craning your neck to look up, & the sound can be a little lesser too close up as well. If I see it's great to get Gold Circle seats (which I assume are also general admission within the Gold Circle section- is that right?), maybe I can try for it next year, if all goes well.

But this time I just got regular tickets, which means... I may need to make an effort to get there earlier to get a good seat anyhow, & since I'm traveling alone this time I'm good with just getting there early & meeting some of the folks from here might be fun...and if I'm early enough & lucky, maybe going to get the request thing in too.

It's not super important for me to do that. I might like to take a day & just take a little Chicago time. I haven't been in there in over 10 years- used to go there for various & sundry left winger Anarchist stuff & more so, usually to see The Mekons, often at Lounge Ax- wonder if I ever crossed Sue's path back in the day?- we got to be pretty good friends with The Mekons over the years- especially Tom G. & Sarah C., who shared our penchant for smokey herbal treats. And I've never made it to Wrigley Field (along with Fenway Park, one of my most hallowed of baseball stadiums), so maybe a tour if they are running them in March. Honestly a lot will hinge on the weather...and March is a tricky one to call...

But I'm open to the possibility of a more Via Chicago based time there & the possibility of camping out early for good seats & potentially getting a request in.

For those of you who have done this in past years...What time do the earliest folks start lining up there anyhow? I believe my red eye bus from Buffalo pulls into Chicago at about 10:30 in the morning on the 13th, and then it's about 1/2 tops to get to the cheap nearby hotel (about a block away) to check-in, so I'm guessing the earliest I could get there is sometime after 11:00 but before noon. On Thursday, I can be there whenever.

Last year we showed up 3 hours before doors and there were a good half dozen or so people already in line.

As for seating, The Vic is usually seatless so they put down some chairs. First row you'll be craning your neck but second row (which is where we sat last year) was really nice.  Off to the right a bit works best too if you want to get some good eye contact with Jeff as he tends to stand/lean/look that way. Sorry if this comes off creepy but it's a great night and you're in for a fun experience.

  10. Man ... how quickly did the Golden Circle tickets sell out?  Lucky you, Wilco Me.

I'm down to get in line early (since I'll be coming in from far, far away, I'll have nothing better to do), but I don't think it'd be fair to hold spots in line just so people can make a request.  Just my thoughts ...

I meant get together and hang out before the show. Who else is in?

I'll be the short Mexican girl (early 30s) in a red hat with a book and a lawn chair (or two to share).
