Got my tickets!!! So excited for this :-)

What we don't realise is that the DJ is actually there in person and walks on stage after every song....
Time to start the Tomatina!
Hey left on "Walken" back on "Hoodoo Voodoo"- did I miss anything this time...2nd encore in progress...
I'm The Man Who Loves You after Walken

It would sure be nice if that senorita would STFU!
But then how would we know the names of the songs?
-
Yay!!! Now if we could only get the DJ to stop talking between (and over the beginning of) songs. She sounds like Fred Armisen in I Am Trying To Break Your Heart.

Robert Walter's 20th Congress and Anders Osbourne at the Independent in SF

Just posted my recording on etree. Really enjoyed the evening and Stan was very gracious about us setting up right next to him.
Thanks for posting this. What a great show!

Enjoy the Roadcase releases?
You just described my last 24 hours. I've been listening to those and looking for other local music to see in the Bay Area most of the morning.

I had essentially the same experience as most of those posting here. I was in the terrace boxes, which was farther back then I usually prefer as I like to sing, dance, etc. I went to the box office before the show to see if I could upgrade to the pool section and they initially said yes I could; however, when they saw that I got the tickets from frontgate they said they could only do exchanges on tickets purchased from their box office. They actually tried to do it for about 5 minutes before giving up. Oh well.
I thought the band was great but the crowd not so much. I love hearing Sunken Treasure and last night's version was probably the best of the three I heard this week. IATTBYH, Ashes of American Flags and Misunderstood were probably my other favorites of the night. Everybody in the terrace boxes sat for almost the entire show. I went with the consensus for as long as I could but once first encore started my group and a few others who had sat unwillingly for too long got up to dance. The people directly behind us actually left abruptly and seemed pretty annoyed but we did it their way for the vast majority of the show and I was concerned that deep vein thrombosis might set in.
While there were no surprises, I thought it was a fantastic show. We were two boxes behind and to the right of the soundboard so the mix was perfect. We had a great view from where we were and were able to fully appreciate the staging and lights. I have wanted to see a show at The Hollywood Bowl since I had the Beatles live album from there when I was 8 years old. I'm glad I got to see my favorite band there but don't feel like I need to go there again. I prefer the small venues with a GA floor and seated balcony. That just works better for me.
So now the question is, what do I do until Solid Sound?

Thanks for the setlist, Paul. Glad I got to say thank you in person after the show.
I really enjoyed this show. Wed was the night before my birthday and I decided very early on Wed morning to make the 4 hour drive from SF to Redding to see this show. I walked into the box office 2 hours before show time and scored a front row seat in the center section on the right aisle. Then I took a drive over to the Sundial Bridge and ran into John (my first Wilco sighting "in the wild). I was essentially on cloud nine upon arrival and it would've taken something drastic to spoil my night. Being in a beautiful, small theater was a nice treat as well.
While the set list was an Intro to Wilco type setlist, they played well. I agree that this was more of a sit down and shut up crowd I felt like the audience enjoyed the show and was, with the exception of the "chemically altered' man that Paul mentioned, extremely respectful of the band and their fellow audience members. I didn't hear any talking during the show, see any cell phones out of any cameras being used. I'd rather seated and attentive than standing people talking over the music or hollering out during the quiet moments.
It was a bit of a tense start and you could see Jeff's irritation clearly on his face as chemically altered man was yelling at him. Once that guy left the mood improved significantly. I thought Glenn's use of laugh track while Jeff was talking to the crowd was funny. Sorry Kingpin was skipped but I doubt there would have been much call and response so maybe it was for the best.

Loved the run of "Passenger Side", "Forget The Flowers" and "Christ For President".
This was my favorite part of the show, too. It was a great 2 days at the Greek. The crowd was really into both shows. Lots of people dancing, singing along and, thankfully, not talking. Realy enjoyed meeting VCers Wilco Me and Kidsmoke, who I recognized from Red Rocks, while waiting for gates to open. I took your advice, Diane, and made reservations for Solid Sound next summer. Perfect sure for the impending tour hiatus induced depression :-)

I thought it was hilarious when Josh started Hoodoo Voodoo with his shirt on and Jeff walked up to him and started unbuttoning it, The friend I was there with was a Wilco virgin. He was really confused by this.

This would be mine:
Lots of Beatles fans here!

Red Rocks (both nights)
Geneva
Greek Theatre (both nights)
Hollywood Bowl
Contemplating SLO or Palm Dessert since I have places to stay in both but I'm pushing my luck with time off requests at work.
We'll see...

Listening to Red Rocks now for the first time, its sounding like a sweeeeet SBD, meaning to me crisp and clear AND a good balance between guitars, keys, drums and vocals. Just exactly perfect!
This is in contrast to the recording of My Morning Jacket's 2011 Red Rocks show they sent out as part of their fan club, which sounds like an AUD or a heavily AUD matrix. You hear the distance between the stage and the mics and it sounds like very far away, which I dislike most of the time. This Wilco recording sounds like you are dead center a few rows back. Very very nice!
I bought the Red Rocks album. I agree with Shug that the band sounds great. If I had any complaints, it is that the crowd is so faint. I know this is probably a characteristic of soundboard recordings, but I wish the crowd was a bit louder. For example, I love how loud the crowd gets when they yell "HATE IT" on the chorus of Hate It Here. On this "official bootleg", that energy from the crowd is absent. Still, I hope they do this for future shows so I can at least document the ones I attend.....
I agree with both of you. It's a great recording of a really great show but the audience could be louder in the mix. We sang our heads off that night and you don't get that from this recording. I noticed it most on Hate It Here and Hummingbird. Having said that I'm extremely grateful for such a high quality recording. Much to my neighbors dismay I can create my own loud audience sing along at home.

Thanks for the seating chart. I had no idea where my row was until I saw this. I'm in Terrace Box 1137 :-)

I almost wish Red Rocks would have been the last of my 3 weeks of shows. Saturday night is going to be tough to beat! But, on the other hand, I had so much fun with the Weekend group and am looking forward to meeting up with a few of them in Duluth! Or, at SSF next year
Or you could come to see them at The Hollywood Bowl or Greek Theater in Sept :-)

Hi Folkgirl!
I'm definitely interested in splitting a weekend package. None of my friends want to make the trip from the Bay Area (what's wrong with them?!?!). My email address is sandymelloy@gmail.com. Send me an email if this is still available and you'd like to talk further.
Hope to hear from you :-)
