  1. Awesome! I visited your lovely country two years ago and drove 1000 km between the north and South Island! Where you coming from? Enjoy the show! Glen is great!

    Back on topic..

I saw they might be giants last night! Anyone else a fan?

Hi, Glen was so great! So glad I made the drive, he played for over 3 hours and kicked ass so well worth it.

I live on the west coast, mid north island in New Plymouth, we get Womad but nearly everything else I have to drive 4 hours north or south. For Wilco next week I have to drive to Wellington for a show, fly to Auckland for next day's show, fly back to Welly and then drive home.

    Yay:)

  2. Glen Hansard with The Frames and Lisa Hannigan opening in Auckland!  Yay.

I nearly missed it though, I saw no promotion at all until I happened to see an in flight magazine on Sunday, show on Wednesday!  Luckily I only need a single ticket so I still got third row.

I don't know how all the ticket places email me about every shit stadium act coming and neglect to tell me about stuff I've actually bought tickets to before

When the Swell Season came to NZ I only found out the week after:/

So here I go tomorrow driving 8 hours round trip for a 2 hour show :)

  3. I'm going to Wellington and Auckland but doubt I'll have time for drinks first because I'm only getting to each town in time to line up!

Be good to see any VCers there though and maybe afterwards.

Saw this interview on Wilco Daily http://thedailywilco.tumblr.com/post/44174801787/jeff-tweedy-on-the-interview-show-2-1-13

where Jeff explains the 'Evening with' refers to no opening act, in the case of Sydney because the Symphony practice between soundcheck and the show.

  4. A 'perfect' album to me  is one of those rare beauties I fall completely in love with and listen to repeatedly for months or years without getting sick of any of it.

It not only sounds amazing but is also full of gorgeous inspiring poetical lyrics.

    I can't believe no-one else here appreciates

Jeff Buckley - Grace, in my book the most perfect album ever hands down.

    Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

    Damien Rice - 9

Regina Spektor - Begin to Hope

The Swell Season - Once (yeah it's a soundtrack but a pretty perfect one)

Bright Eyes - I'm wide awake It's morning

Justin Townes Earle - Nothings ever gonna change the way you feel about me now

The Smiths - The world won't listen (compilation though but still my choice of Smiths)

    I'd forgotten about this one...

Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon

but it really is a beautiful album I listened to a lot, and then that reminded me of

REM - Automatic for the People

which I thought was perfect back in the day

  5. I'll pass another vote for Justin Townes Earle, saw him for the third time and loved every minute of his performance.

Just saw Regina Spektor for the second time in December and she was amazing. I wasn't completely in love with her lastest album until that show, but I was completely awestruck by the beauty, power and strength of her singing - the start of All the rowboats has these huge 'boof-boof' sound effects which I had thought were made by a drum machine or something like that, but no, it's just Regina's own mouth and voice! Haha. Her opener/husband Only Son was pretty good too.

  6. I've stuck this up on my blog (link in sig) if anyone else wants this.

Also, the lineup for Saturday night at Bluesfest now runs - Wilco -> Iggy and the Stooges -> Robert Plant. I'm thinking I might have to travel up there.

    Thanks HEAPS!

I just listened to She's a jar and have sore cheeks from smiling so hard lol. Got my GA tickets for Auckland and Welly this morning too:)

If I could go to Bluesfest I'd want to catch Glen Hansard as well.

  7. Second row. I hoped they'd sell out fast, which would surely guarantee a second show. Not there yet, but they seem to be going steadily (no premiums left)

I've got a recording of the Wellington show if you're interested.

Oh I sooo want that recording!! I didn't think there was one, thats me Jeff talked to about my She's a jar request:)

In my pic is one of Glens drumsticks from that show too.

    Congrats on the good seats.

  8. Finally back to NZ,

I was getting used to the annual visits there for a while so it's been a long wait!

I promised myself I would get to Auckland and Wellington on the next tour, only did Welly last time, it's a little tricky since I live slap bang in the middle, but I can justify it since it's two years late:)
