The guitar riff on "Its All Downhill from Here" is one of my all-time faves. The lyrics are pretty funny as well.

I saw a thing not too long ago about the strip club Bada Bing not remodeling because of the movie.
Being a sometimes customer of The Bing, AKA Satin Dolls, I could easily say that remodeling that place would indeed take a long time!

I haven't watched this footage yet, but I would guess he is not so rich compared to Neil Young and Bob Dylan.
Compared to those two, no he isn't very rich, but he does OK. When i worked as a booking agent, Roger was one of our clients at the time and he does get a nice fee for his performances. Unfortunately, many of the Byrds biggest hits were written by Dylan or Gene Clark.

Helter Skelter was one of the first heavy metal songs.
Cream, Blue Cheer, You Really Got Me, Satisfaction, and various Who songs all pre-date that song - yes?
You are correct. In fact, The Beatles did "Helter Skelter" as a sort of inside joke to prove that they could be as loud and as heavy as bands like Cream and The Who.

Just heard it for the first time recently.
Damn.
Are you sure it wasn't Merle Haggard? He wrote the song and I'm not sure if Waylon ever recorded it, but I could be wrong. The song was also a Grateful Dead staple as well.

I met Bruce once, and if Danny was anything close to the guy Bruce was, the world will miss him dearly.

Pacino hasn't done anything remotely inspired since Scent Of A Woman
I think Pacino actually sucked in that movie. "Whoo-aaa". I thought the movie sucked too.

Heat was a good flick, but it suffered from DeNiro/Pacino hype. My favorite scene is the one with the blue-print Pacino overacting: They are interrogating Hank Azaria and out of nowhere Pacino yells "I bet she's got a greaaaaaaat ass". It seems so inappropriate and I crack up every time I see that scene.
I think Al Pacino has totally lost it. He doesn't even act anymore. he just shows up in his black suit and yells.
Long story short: DeNiro. Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Deer Hunter, Godfather II, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, jackie Brown, King of Comedy, the very underrated The Score, This Boys Life, Mad Dog and Glory, Cape Fear, Guilty by Suspicion, ANGEL HEART (Louis Cipher!), The Mission (underrated), BRAZIL, and he directed A Bronx Tale.
Pacino can't touch that. Plus, Deniro has yet to star opposite of keanu reeves.

I read an article that explained that after the primaries, the democratic nominee would most likely receive a 10-point boost in any poll vs. McCain, plus its too early for these types of polls. That being said, i would love to see Rice on the ticket. She is quite possibly the worst head of the NSA ever and one of the worst Sec. of State. I would love to see her defend the "Al Queda determined to attack inside the US" memo that was on her desk in August 2001 that she consequently ignored.

Did anyone see "The Night Of Too Many Stars" on CC the other night? I was flipping through and I caught Chris Rock and Steven Wright together doing each others jokes. Steven Wright doing Chris Rock jokes was hilarious.

I really hope this means Daivd Byrne is going on tour.
I second that. I saw him on the Grown Backwards tour and it was great. I really enjoy his solo work as much as I do the talking heads.

This is not true. Iran is helping arm and fund Shia Militias. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia is helping to fund and arm the Sunni Militias, with US money! If anybody wants to get the scoop Iran's influence in Iraq, pay attention to CNN reporter Michael Ware, a crazy-fuck Australian who has been in Iraq from day one. he has a lot of insight/
That being said, an attack on iran would be a bigger mistake than invading Iraq. In fact, the best and wisest course of action for US policy in Iraq would be to work with the Iranian government, since they have much more influence than the US does. Many of the exiled Iraqis that have come back to their country with the help of the US government to run the Iraqi government and ministries spent their exiles in Iran and have very close ties to the government, and in some cases, are directly influenced by the Iranians.
The mis-education of Americans, particularly among American politicians, on Iran is mind-boggling.
1) Why Iran wants to arm itself with nuclear capabilities: Neighbors to the north, India and Pakistan are both nuclear powers. Their eastern border is Afghanistan, where there are coalition forces fighting everyday and their closest neighbor, Iraq, well, we know how thats going. Throw on top of that the fact that every time a US politician talks about eradicating the terrorists, they mention Iran. Wouldn't you be a little on edge?
2) President Iwontbothereventryingtospellit of Iran is the Middle Easts version of GW Bush. In Iran, the Supreme Clerics decide who is worthy to run for office and then the people are allowed to make their choice. So you can't really tell much about the people's sentiment in Iran based on who is elected to office. Instead, the sentiment is gaged by voter turnout. In the recent elections, 20% of the population voted, most of them rural farmers who are highly religious. Sound familiar? Yes, apparently Iran has "Red States" too!
3) The large sector of Iran's population are young, educated, pro-Western , pro-democratic people and there is a growing reformist underground building in Iran that includes great poets, writers and filmmakers. If we set out to destroy the country as we did with Iraq, that would only strengthen the extreme-right religious, Anti-West faction.
4) Remember when Iran was a burgeoning Democracy? It didn't last too long because the CIA overthrew that government and installed the brutal regime that was so bad, the people revolted and installed the basis for the government we have in Iran now. Good move.

I don't consider Led Zep, Deep Purple or Black Sabbath as metal but rather predecessors to metal. Therefore my voye would go to Metallica and Iron maiden. Although Dokken (rhymes with Rockin'!) have a place in my heart!
And AC/DC is not metal at all. They are rock and roll to the bone.

Jenny Owen Youngs, NJ
Good call, Walken. I know Jenny a little bit. She's a hell of a songwriter.

Bee Gees - Tragedy (great melody, and because "To Love somebody" has been voted for many times)
Beach Boys- Good Vibrations (would usually be "God only Knows", but not today)
Kinks- You Really Got Me (that still rocks and it was recorded in what, 1965?)

t just how much of a difference does the manager make? I contend that it's not very much.
I disagree. Having played baseball into my 20's I've been on some teams that had managers that just rubbed people the wrong way, and those teams usually do not play well, and thats not even in a 162 game schedule. In the X's and O's aspect of the game, the manager probably wins/loses 5-10 games a year. But as far as staying focused and fresh, and staying out of prolonged slumps and losing streaks during the course of a long season, I believe a managers presence, demeanor and leadership has a great deal to do with how a team plays.

well there's certainly SOME similarities, yes, but if you listen to the Black Keys first album, The Big Come Up, it's WAY more traditionally based in the blues than any of the White Stripes records have been.
If you took the entire spectrum of music in the entire world and placed them all in a row, The Black Keys and The White Stripes would be placed right next to each other. In the grand scheme of things in the musical world, the SOME similarities are more common, and far outweigh the minor differences. Guitar and Drums. Blues-based rock. Its pretty similar compared to, say, Marvin Gaye or The Carpenters or Bach.

Five releases from a guy who hasn't put out one good one yet. He has a couple of good songs, and a few a really good songs. The last song I heard of his was "Diamond Ring" and I almost laughed myself right off the road. I went to a job interview about 6 years ago for a management company and they were pouring all kinds of money into this guy. They sent me home with a CD, and by the time I got home, i knew if i took that job I wouldn't have it for long.

it's too bad that 2 piece blues rock bands are going to be compared to the White Stripes until the end of time now it seems, especially since TBK have been around for over 7 years now.
Like I said, I am not all that familiar with The Black Keys, but they definitely share that common blues thread with the White Stripes. The 2 piece band can be limiting to a core sound. I'm not sure its coincidental either, The BLACK Keys and the WHITE Stripes. "Attack and Release" is a good record and I will definitely check out some of the other records mentioned here.
