  1. So Zoran put it on the internet so people wouldn't see it? What did Jeff think was going to happen with the video being shot?I'm probably being snarky, but there really isn't anything bad that could have come out of leaving the link up. I think we have some people severely overthinking here

All we can do is speculate. The videos were two months old and nobody had seen them. Then, on the day that one of them is linked in here and after 100 or so people saw them (guessing here), they disappear. Either they were supposed to be private to begin with, or someone at Wilco was tipped off that they were on Zoran's site when they shouldn't have been. Bottom line is that it appears they were not meant to be seen. I agree with you that there is nothing harmful in the videos, and they certainly did not give any grand indication as to how the record was going to sound. They were just bits and pieces. If they were using it as a marketing ploy, which I think would have been a great idea, they should have left them up for a while longer.

  2. You think the powers that be made Zoran pull them because a like was posted on a little used Wilco fan board? I'm just wondering if something a little more bit torrentish broke out. This board is so dead I imagine on a dozen or so people from here actually looked at the link.

I think the views were approaching seventy or so when I watched the videos early yesterday evening, maybe an hour or two before they were pulled. My guess is that he noticed the view count rising and realized they were public. This kind of thing would actually be a pretty cool way to market a new record, but putting little bits and pieces of it randomly across the internet.

  3. The Lagunitas spokesperson and owner are both lying and must believe we are all idiots . This beer that they put out was 100% named after Wilco (the band). If they had truly followed the ICAO alphabet/NATO phonetic alphabet, which assigns code words to the English alphabet, the name of the beer would have been "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot".

But they couldn't name the beer Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Every beers' name has to get approved, and having the word 'Whiskey' on a bottle of beer just doesn't cut it. The owner wasn't lying. Here is a link describing the thought process behind naming the beer. Sorry folks, the beer wasn't named after Wilco.

  4. I got on 15 minutes early and they were already on sale... I am bummed

Anyone with extra richmond hit me up please...

They put the link up 15 minutes early, but as far as I could tell, the tickets did not go on sale until 12. I scored tickets at 12:01 to the Durham show. I tried again a few minutes later to see if there were any left and they appear to be sold out.

  5. You more than likely wouldn't have got Durham anyway. Wendy and I got shut out from the get go.

I called the Durham Box Office, and while they don't have tickets available now they said there might be some available closer to the show date.

  6. Just got shut out of Durham. Anyone else have any luck?

I had two tickets way up in the 3rd level balcony just after 10 am, and then i got an unable to process order screen. Great. I've never seen Wilco shows sell out this fast. I guess I will try for Atlanta tomorrow. I wish I had read my email just a little earlier so I could have gotten in on the presale.

  7. Yep, 'Can't Stand It' skipped the first time I played it. I've played it twice more since, and it hasn't skipped again. Have you tried playing it two or three times?

I haven't tried playing it again, but count me in as another whose Summerteeth vinyl skips on Can't Stand It. Just picked it up from my local record store yesterday. Everything else on the album plays fine (and sounds great).

  8. Oh, and as to the original poster's request, you can also try free audio editing software. Audacity is free and fun to play with. Within minutes you can have the song edited to the length you like, you can add a fade out if you wanted just a minute or two of drone, or whatever you fancy.

  9. easily the most pretentious thing jeff tweedy has done. the rock critics who cited this as brilliant are a joke.

agib is my favorite wilco album, by the way.

I would argue that it is both pretentious and brilliant. And the song loses some of its meaning without the drone. My first thought when I heard it many moons ago was WTF? But I have learned to appreciate it, and never skip it if I am playing the album all the way through. Its an interesting surreal break in the album, and it allows your own mind to either intensely focus on the ambient sounds, or sometimes to wander on to other things. It makes the experience of listening to it different every time.

  10. I compiled the second-to-last songs on each Wilco album and decided that they comprise what should be their only album so far and it shouldn't even be out yet because it's only seven songs so after four or so more albums that shouldn't have been released we'll finally have the only Wilco album that should exist.

    Long live the drone!

By the way, OP, i wouldn't want to be left without "Country Disappeared." I'm confused by the lack of love for this one. I'm comforted only by comparing it to black olives: some people can't stand them which is great because that means more for me.

Count me as a big fan of this song as well. At first I thought it was a bit boring, but repeated listens have really opened up for me. Love Tweedy's vocal delivery in this song, as they fit perfectly with the lyrics and music.

To go back to the original poster's idea, no, I don't think a single album would have been better. Even though I am not the biggest fan of SBS, the album is very cohesive, and honestly, who am I to say what should and shouldn't be on their albums anyway. If I get to that point I should start making my own music.

  11. I honestly know nothing about Barley's, so I have no idea how the food is. I always try to hit up Tupelo Honey and/or Salsa's for food when there (but, both are small). There are 2 larger sized pubs/restaurants that I have been to in downtown Asheville to get beer, however I don't know if I have eaten at either one. I know of others who have and say they are good, but that is all heresay. The ones that I know of are Jack of the Wood and the Bier Garden. Both could accomodate more people, are close to the Civic Center (The Bier Garden is actually on Haywood Ave- I think and Patton is not very far). Jack of the Wood is kind of like an old English/Irish pub, but they brew their own beer there (however, if they have bands they sometimes charge covers, but that is not usually until later in the night) and then The Bier Garden (actually, I think I have had appetizers there and they were good) has all kinds of food.

I think that Barley's is near the Orange Peel (don't hold me to it), so it is walkable from the Civic Center, just a little bit more of a walk. I know there is public parking (the Civic Center garage) right past the Civic Center and then another garage on Wall St. There may be others but those are the 2 garages I know of.

Barleys focus is on beer and Pizza, and yes they are close to the Orange Peel on Biltmore Avenue. They have the best selection of local brews in Asheville, and their pizza is fair to good. They have pool and darts and more beer upstairs. Jack of the Wood is a great pub that has the typical pub fare as far as food is concerned. I'm not a huge fan of the Bier Garden, but it is really close to the venue, but pretty much anything in downtown Asheville is close to the venue. As far as food, Salsa's and Tupelo Honey are both good. I also like the Noodle Shop, Wasabi for sushi, Mela for Indian, Bouchon for French bistro food, Zambra for Tapas and I have heard good things about Cucina 24 for Italian but I haven't been. If anyone has any other Asheville related questions, let me know.

  12. Almost Blue used to have the best vinyl in town. It is located pretty close to the Wolfe. I cannot wait for the show. I hope they open with Wilco, The Song.

    Anyway.......

Almost Blue has been out of business for at least a couple of years now. But if you want to grab a drink, the Thirsty Monk is in the location that used to be Almost Blue. Upstairs is an American Pint House, and downstairs is all Belgian beer. I spend entirely to much money at this place. http://www.monkpub.com/

  13. I'll be making the short drive from Knoxville to see the show. Does anyone from Asheville know of any good record stores in the area? I plan to get into town a little early and try to find some places that sell vinyl, because I've pretty much exhausted the options here in Knoxville.

Harvest Records is in West Asheville and is a great record store. http://www.harvest-records.com/records.php

You can also try Static Age Records on Lexington Ave downtown. http://www.staticagerecords.com/wp/

  14. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Wilco sold out, but I don't like the idea of hearing their songs associated with a product. I think the great thing about music as an art form is the personal connection you feel with the artist and the music. That connection gets interrupted when it becomes a part of an advertisement, especially one that has really nothing to do with the songs themselves. At least the War on War commercial had some kind of connection to Chicago, and therefore Wilco. This to me is just about the band earning an extra buck, and I understand that they don't get paid the megabucks like some other artists do. But it also makes me cringe if I heard some of my favorite Wilco songs being used to sell products. I'm not going to boycott them or anything, and I still appreciate everything they have done for us fans.

So do I get some ice cream?

On a lighter note, we should pair some Wilco songs with some products.

    Misunderstood - Cingular

How To Fight Loneliness - Paxil

    Kamera - Nikon

Pot Kettle Black - Lodge Cast Iron Cookware

  15. What have the other albums debut at? My guess is that AGIB would be the only one that would come close to this.

According to Wiki, AGIB was 8. YHF was 13, KT 47 :(, Being There 73, Summerteeth 78, and nothing for AM.

  16. You can see the chart here, but you have to register.
