  1. Is it cruel that I was at that show? I was a late Wilco bloomer, and had really only been into them for a year or two and this was the first time seeing them live, and still my favorite. Really great show. Wish there was a recording of it somewhere. As for last night, that was my first time seeing Tweedy solo, and I really enjoyed it. It is a testament to these songs that they can stand up so well with just Jeff and his guitar. Really enjoyed the newer stuff too. I found the interaction between Jeff and the crowd to be fun, and I think the crowd for the most part did a good job of being quie
  2. According to Wikipedia, YHF debuted at 13, and AGIB at 8. SBS and WTA debuted at 4. I really don't think they have any reason to be disappointed in the sales of this album. Unless Tweedy does a stint on American Idol, I think they are near their peak in the current musical climate.
  3. Here is a link to an online version of the mag: http://issuu.com/redflagmedia/docs/magnet_flip_81 The review is on page 61. Basically calls the slower stuff self-parody and says OSM doesn't go anywhere.
  4. Not long ago at all: http://viachicago.org/topic/45913-less-than-you-think/
  5. AV Club gave it a B, but it was a bit harsh. http://www.avclub.com/articles/wilco-the-whole-love,62309/
  6. Sounds better live than on the album, and I loved it on the album.
  7. An hour too late to this thread, but better late than never. Go Nels. Wish I had some Delirium Tremens.
  8. First time I have cried in months. I so love listening to vinyl. Maybe now is a good time to upgrade your stylus, if upgrading is needed.
  9. This was an interesting thing that I haven't seen pointed out before. After listening, I would vote homage, but there are some similarities. What do y'all think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9nY9axjaWo
  10. Found this in a review of Adult Head: "It's easy to imagine the straightforward descriptive language of "Capital City" set to music: "in a capital city skyline photo / skyscrapers shine with sun / low in the blue sky / but the secretaries and the hot dog vendors / and the car horns honking at bicycle messengers / make no reply." http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/di-verse-ifying/Content?oid=914902
  11. Love the sentiment of the lyrics to Dawned on Me. Tweedy has always had a penchant for writing 'different' love songs, and I really like the idea of re-falling in love.
  12. So interesting to hear all the opinions. There are some songs I love, some songs I like, and some that I need to listen to more. Its a new Wilco album, so I am pretty happy. I do love a lot of the layered instrumentation, as well as some of the great lyrics by Jeff. We will see how long it holds up, but I am happy so far.
  13. Oh, the days before google. What do radio stations do now?
  14. I almost always listen to it, unless someone else is in the car with me. One of the things I really love about this song is that there is a temptation to skip the rest of the song. Its as if Tweedy is daring you to end it to get to the Late Greats. I think the drone makes the album better, and is not as pretentious as some people have argued. Of course we all know that the song is a sonic representation of a migraine, which unlike the song, cannot be skipped. That is usually the reason I listen to it, because they wanted me too. Sometimes I actually like the dissonant sounds, but other t
  15. 1. My friend downloaded a couple of songs from Wilco around the time YHF came out. I think I got AM first, and then my wife bought YHF for my birthday. It honestly did not click with me the first time I heard it. Around the third or fourth time I listened to it, it was like a lightswitch went on. YHF is probably my favorite album ever, and still routinely gets played on the ol' LP player (sounds so freaking good on vinyl). 2. I went to that same show in Asheville as my first. I can still remember them opening with One by One. It was a great show, that included a few songs I haven't hea
  16. I'm still waiting for an entire album of Spongebob tunes, with each single being released one Audi commercial at a time.
  17. So I got to meet Don Chatier at a Lagunitas tasting yesterday, and he told the story of this beer. Again, the original name of the beer was supposed to be Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF, get it?). He said that after the beer came out, they ended up talking to some people from Wilco, and sent a few cases their way. Because of this, they actually got involved with Solid Sound this year, and he said they are hoping to have the band over for a visit to the brewery sometime.
  18. There are streams of the song on both paste magazine and sterogum's websites for those who want to hear it.
  19. Sounds like a song from Summerteeth that was put into a hottub time machine.
