  1. Initial impressions: I love it. Lots going on sonically. Really needs to be listened to on headphones. Hoping the rest of the album has this much adventurousness. The drums may sound familiar to those who caught the Zoran videos. And get well soon.
  2. Interesting comment about the new song on the twitters: "XTC meets The Beatles.." I'm sure at some point today an mp3 will hit the innerwebs.
  3. All we can do is speculate. The videos were two months old and nobody had seen them. Then, on the day that one of them is linked in here and after 100 or so people saw them (guessing here), they disappear. Either they were supposed to be private to begin with, or someone at Wilco was tipped off that they were on Zoran's site when they shouldn't have been. Bottom line is that it appears they were not meant to be seen. I agree with you that there is nothing harmful in the videos, and they certainly did not give any grand indication as to how the record was going to sound. They were just bi
  4. I think the views were approaching seventy or so when I watched the videos early yesterday evening, maybe an hour or two before they were pulled. My guess is that he noticed the view count rising and realized they were public. This kind of thing would actually be a pretty cool way to market a new record, but putting little bits and pieces of it randomly across the internet.
  5. I think it is Eliza Jane Barnes, who is the musical partner of Liam Finn who toured with Eddie on many of his solo tours.
  6. But they couldn't name the beer Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Every beers' name has to get approved, and having the word 'Whiskey' on a bottle of beer just doesn't cut it. The owner wasn't lying. Here is a link describing the thought process behind naming the beer. Sorry folks, the beer wasn't named after Wilco.
  7. They put the link up 15 minutes early, but as far as I could tell, the tickets did not go on sale until 12. I scored tickets at 12:01 to the Durham show. I tried again a few minutes later to see if there were any left and they appear to be sold out.
  8. I called the Durham Box Office, and while they don't have tickets available now they said there might be some available closer to the show date.
  9. I had two tickets way up in the 3rd level balcony just after 10 am, and then i got an unable to process order screen. Great. I've never seen Wilco shows sell out this fast. I guess I will try for Atlanta tomorrow. I wish I had read my email just a little earlier so I could have gotten in on the presale.
  10. Saw these guys open for the Ruby Suns and the Dodos recently. I went into this show blind, and of the three bands these guys really stood out. Picked up the vinyl after the show and was impressed on the first listen. Looking forward to getting to know this album.
  11. I haven't tried playing it again, but count me in as another whose Summerteeth vinyl skips on Can't Stand It. Just picked it up from my local record store yesterday. Everything else on the album plays fine (and sounds great).
  12. Oh, and as to the original poster's request, you can also try free audio editing software. Audacity is free and fun to play with. Within minutes you can have the song edited to the length you like, you can add a fade out if you wanted just a minute or two of drone, or whatever you fancy.
  13. I would argue that it is both pretentious and brilliant. And the song loses some of its meaning without the drone. My first thought when I heard it many moons ago was WTF? But I have learned to appreciate it, and never skip it if I am playing the album all the way through. Its an interesting surreal break in the album, and it allows your own mind to either intensely focus on the ambient sounds, or sometimes to wander on to other things. It makes the experience of listening to it different every time.
  14. Long live the drone! Count me as a big fan of this song as well. At first I thought it was a bit boring, but repeated listens have really opened up for me. Love Tweedy's vocal delivery in this song, as they fit perfectly with the lyrics and music. To go back to the original poster's idea, no, I don't think a single album would have been better. Even though I am not the biggest fan of SBS, the album is very cohesive, and honestly, who am I to say what should and shouldn't be on their albums anyway. If I get to that point I should start making my own music.
  15. The guitar part of that section reminds me of the Simon electronic game from way back in the early eighties.
  16. Barleys focus is on beer and Pizza, and yes they are close to the Orange Peel on Biltmore Avenue. They have the best selection of local brews in Asheville, and their pizza is fair to good. They have pool and darts and more beer upstairs. Jack of the Wood is a great pub that has the typical pub fare as far as food is concerned. I'm not a huge fan of the Bier Garden, but it is really close to the venue, but pretty much anything in downtown Asheville is close to the venue. As far as food, Salsa's and Tupelo Honey are both good. I also like the Noodle Shop, Wasabi for sushi, Mela for Indian,
  17. Almost Blue has been out of business for at least a couple of years now. But if you want to grab a drink, the Thirsty Monk is in the location that used to be Almost Blue. Upstairs is an American Pint House, and downstairs is all Belgian beer. I spend entirely to much money at this place. http://www.monkpub.com/
  18. Harvest Records is in West Asheville and is a great record store. http://www.harvest-records.com/records.php You can also try Static Age Records on Lexington Ave downtown. http://www.staticagerecords.com/wp/
  19. According to Hits Daily Double, they dropped to #16 with ~31,500.
  20. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Wilco sold out, but I don't like the idea of hearing their songs associated with a product. I think the great thing about music as an art form is the personal connection you feel with the artist and the music. That connection gets interrupted when it becomes a part of an advertisement, especially one that has really nothing to do with the songs themselves. At least the War on War commercial had some kind of connection to Chicago, and therefore Wilco. This to me is just about the band earning an extra buck, and I understand that they don't get paid the me
  21. According to Wiki, AGIB was 8. YHF was 13, KT 47 , Being There 73, Summerteeth 78, and nothing for AM.
