Thank you for filling in, Monty! I appreciate it. Awesome job! As I’m sure you might recall, Please Be Wrong was played once before way back on episode 81. I believe last night was the first time that Jeff us the title. And Pittsburgh does sound familiar. I’d have to listen to that one again with my list of untitled songs in front of me to see if any lyrics match up.

Sorry, just now seeing this. You're very welcome; I'm happy to help.

I actually didn't recall the song when he played it, but I went to enter "Please Be Wrong" on the spreadsheet, I saw that I had it listed as "Please Be Wrong About Me" from before. Likewise, Pittsburgh didn't sound familiar to me, either, but clearly that doesn't mean he hasn't plaid it before.

  2. I was asked to fill in as re-capper tonight:

The Tweedy Show Thursday July 10 Episode 183

-Jeff & Basil welcome the clients
    - Animated credits
Like I Used To (Sharon Van Etten & Angel Olsen cover with Spencer on drums & backing vocals)
    -Where’s Basil?
    -Happy birthday Rosie
New Madrid (Spencer on backing vocals)
-Rosie’s age (34) gives Susie anxiety
-Sammy update from camp: Spencer shows photo of Sammy playing with a lamb.
-Jeff shows video of 8-foot long snake he saw in the woods
-Jeff talks about other animals he saw, and talks about seeing a tiny horse pulling a cart
-Jeff talks about how ticks catch on to you
    Hold Me Anyway
    -Casey’s mother’s cat decapitated a rabbit
-Jeff talks about someone who had a tick in their eyeball
-Ticks come off the ground, not from trees
-Jeff’s cousins used to play I Don’t Like Spiders & Snakes at family gatherings
Please Be Wrong (new song with Spencer on backing vocals)
-Susie asks the clients to stop commenting dead animal stories
-Jeff announces the Jeff Tweedy Quick-Change Capo available for order
No Longer A Sweetheart Of Mine (written by Don Reno/Red Smiley/Fred Swift)
San Francisco (Foxygen cover by Casey with Spencer on guitar and backing vocals)
-Jeff recalls that Foxygen didn’t know who he was when they met at Solid Sound
Pittsburgh (song Jeff and Spencer recorded years ago but never released; Spencer on drums)
-Susie mistakes a leaf on the floor with a stinkbug
-Jeff & Susie talk about Jeff’s parents visiting them in Chicago
-What is the origin of the phrase “clean as a whistle?”
    -Everyone discusses Catdog
-Basil is fascinated by Jeff’s whistling
Reincarnation (Roger Miller cover with Spencer on backing vocals)

Is someone still keeping track of all the songs performed on TTS??? Is there anyway to tell how many times My Darling has been performed? I know Jeff's done it at least once.

I’m still updating the list after every show. Link to the list is in my signature below. Jeff has played My Darling twice: episodes 48 and 145.

Nice catch! Thank you! I am going to fix that now.

Haha. At the risk of becoming a nag, Jeff also sang a harmony part on Who Loves The Sun last night (episode 169). :)

  5. Oops... I need to make it a habit to look at your recaps before I update the spreadsheet.

Just looked at your notes. I called the new song "Sing In The Choir." I'll go back and change it to match your recap. (Trying to keep everything in sync.)

The absolute monster performance by Pamela Rabe as Joan Ferguson is next-level. We're talking Walter White territory. Great show.

Interesting. Goes to show how opinions differ. Her performance almost ruined the show for me. IMO she seemed totally cartoonish compared to the other actors/characters. Still, great show.

Ziggy, who are you on IG? I also love the TS community that's grown up around the show. I'm dmurphy948 there.

    I'm montysmith.is.brickpig on instagram.

I'll look you up right now....

  8. In the beginning I thought the comments were really distracting, but at that point I had not foreseen what an amazing community was going to grow around the show. I hardly ever post anything, but now I really enjoy "keeping in touch" with everybody. I just hate now that we have essentially choose the comments or the video. My wife and I AirPlay the show to our TV, but even so the video was really small last night if we maximized the comments. This strikes me as the Facebook philosophy of re-design, which IMO amounts to changing things for no reason other than the sake of changing them.

I am in the camp of folks that didn't see any difference tonight with the comments or screen size. I wonder if I passed on an update.

We had the new format. I think this is going to be one of those updates IG kicks out without us having any control over it. Like the white hearts. And it will just get rolled out gradually to everyone. It's not great. I mean, with the original format sometimes I found myself getting too caught up in reading the comments, too the point that I would lose track of the actual show. But at least I had the option of seeing all the comments if I wanted, or ignoring them if I didn't want to read them. With the new format, you almost can't read the comments unless you make the video image really tiny at the top of the screen.

  10. I wasn't able to make it through the first Borat movie. Not even going to attempt a second one.

In response to ih8music's post from 10/22 about Lovecraft Country: Yes I watched, and LOVED it. I don't recall ever being simultaneously so confused and so consumed by anything that wasn't a David Lynch project. So much fun.

  11. I thought it was interesting that Sammy said he had never heard Jeff play Plateau, since he's played it twice before on the show. I guess those previous times he must have played it before Sammy came in the room.

Without watching the episode again I am fairly certain that was an acoustic bass. I asked Susie to get Jeff to show us the instrument but alas, no luck.

This is correct. It was an acoustic bass.

  13. I'm almost 100% sure the childrens' song is Clean Up Song by ELF Learning. I was googling while they were singing, and just as they were finishing I found lyrics that I believe were a match. Just googled it again, and I'm pretty confident it's right. There was no mention of Romper Room in what I read, but there is a Romper Room video that showed up in the search results. I assume they're singing a clean up song of some sort, but I'm at work right now and can't watch/listen. (Which is also why I can't check last night's episode to confirm the song.)

It is also well within the realm of possibility that I am the only person who cares. But I figure, I put Wheels On The Bus on the spreadsheet; why wouldn't I put this one on, too?

  14. Haha. I was googling as fast as I could, too, trying every little snippet of lyrics I could catch. I did come up with it, finally, but I missed seeing most of the song. For some reason I almost always miss Paul’s song IDs. I always see people thanking him, and I see a lot of his jokes and commentary, but very rarely the song titles. It would be interesting to know how IG determines who sees which comments, and if there’s anything you can do as a user to tweak them.
