"Jay Bennett was my friend".
Solid set. Jeff and his gorgeous guitars were in fine voice. Acuff Rose off mic was Jeff at his best.
And then there was this:

Walt's character came full circle in one episode. Commencement.
Seriously brilliant writing. -
Walt's conversation with Skyler seemed completely off and out of character. I kept thinking that there was no way the writers were being so trite. But then it hit me. He was saving them.
RIP Hank. What a wonderful character. -
Lou, the Owl & Bear interview I posted made it sound like the split was less benign than just Becker growing tired of it.
In any case, it is too bad.

Tweedy is playing my town and I might not go and I might just be ok with that. Tickets showed up on StubHub 15 minutes after they went on sale. $300 bucks for good seats. This process is badly broken. I'm out.

I am stealing your umami reference to use elsewhere, hope you don't mind.
Sure, just be sure to put it in quotes and footnote the reference.
-
If Hank and Gomie bite it, there is no case against Walt. If Jesse bites it, there is no Walt/Jesse tension. It's the character interplay between Walt and Jesse that is the umami in the series for me. Three episodes to go. Jesse lives another week.
I say Todd and Gomie are out.

Listened to Stitches last night. This is a great LP.
Side one was instantly perfect. Side two has been a creeper. Digging it though really missing Jim Becker in the mix.
I just stumbled across a reference to a documentary from a couple of years ago. Made a Machine by Describing the Landscape. Anyone seen it? Is it worth 20 bucks?
Matt do you have a link to purchase? Never even knew about this!

My daughter informed me tonight that if I don't host this show, she is going to "run away from home".

The way the previously announced venue shows are right in the middle of the living room tour makes me wonder if there will be any full band shows at all. Especially since the venue shows are now listed as 'with Richard Buckner'. I totally get why Tim would rather play living rooms to an attentive audience but I'd love to see some full band shows too. Looks like Buffalo will probably be my only show on this tour.
Stitches pre-order info should be coming down the 'pike any time now, bring it on!
Hmmm interesting. Tim said at some point during the lr tour that the Stitches tour would be some configuration of Califone.
If you make this happen I would love to see if it's possible for me.
That would be so kick ass mb! I will keep you posted.

Oh my pleasure! The best part of VC is sharing the good news.
Considering hosting the KC show. Anybody want to come see me the end of September? -
If you missed Rutili in the spring, Here's the autumn rendition to coincide with the release of Stitches.
Makes me wonder though if there will be a full band tour, more than the few venue shows already announced.

I caught one of the LRS here in Portland last week-ish. It was really quite amazing and special. I loved hearing some Red Red Meat and reminisced with Tim about Lounge Ax in the 90s. He told a very funny story about puking Jagermeister in the white snow, in the Lounge Ax back alley. I'm so glad I went; thanks M Christine for the heads up. At least I made it to one Chicago-related Living Room Show this year...not feeling *as* remorseful for missing Jeff's LRS!
Makes me happy you got to see this!
Ha! It seems Tim has a bit of a body function bent to his conversation. Both times I have seen him the banter has taken a definite turn to the scatological.

New (non living room) tour dates and plus listen to the title track to the forthcoming Stitches.

Like the sound, though Tim is sounding more an more like Bowie (not old Bowie but current Bowie).
I heard the first seconds of this and was reminded of Tim Hurley's vocals and sound in Sin Ropas.

Toronto setlist was almost identical to Ottawa, they did Braindead in place of No Expectations and returned to finish Bottles & Bones this time after the Space-y interlude. The new songs are sounding really great, Stitches can't get here soon enough and hopefully some nearby dates on a fall tour!
Jeff Tweedy 12/3/13 Kansas City, MO Uptown Theatre

This is why I appreciate hecklers more than interviewers. The statement was so unguarded and poignant, it brought tears to my eyes also.
Tweedy solo shows are enjoyable for his guitar mastery, since his style often gets lost in the larger band context. His playing seemed especially flourish-y last night, and I was really digging it.
As to venue and drunks, yellers and phone abusers; Haven't been able to figure out why Tweedy/Wilco continues to play the Uptown, especially when there are a couple of wonderful mid-sized venues in/around KC that would be far better suited to this kind of seated show. I can't stand the venue myself, and last night the carpet smelled vaguely of piss where I was sitting. For such a beautiful piece of architecture, it attracts more than a fair share of knuckleheads, and the management and crowd control seem particularly soulless. Had it not been Tweedy I would never have attended another show there.
Ultimately though I'm just glad he keeps bringing his show to town.
