  1. I saw that show in the video. It was a lot of fun. Also, saw them at Double Door in Chicago for their record (10" vinyl) release show. Both shows were captured on video and audio by the band.

I don't think I've ever seen John with a wider grin on his face. The live band also included Mark Greenberg (one of the engineers on The Whole Love and new Loft manager). "Trouble's Coming Down" is on frequent rotation in my office. Little Steven voted that track 'song of the week' one week, last year.

At the live shows John sang lead on a great cover of The Who's "Armenia City in the Sky".

With everyone's day jobs and other projects I doubt Candy Golde will play live again anytime soon.

  2.

Didn't work...but thanks for trying...did you put this up? And/or are you sure it's a safe link? If it's you, if you could re-post that would be great! Thanks however it all plays out!

I deduced the direct link to the SoundCloud hosted mp3 they are streaming. The URL changes periodically, so it will expire quickly. I use the Network tab of the Chrome browser web dev inspector to get the link. Anyone can use that.

  3. Steven Versaw is the former drummer of The M's and 1/2 of the duo Walter & Wendell. He is also Wilco's production manager/monitor engineer. He's slated to release his debut solo EP this spring on his own Movings Label.

Check out some sweet slide work on the title track at:

If you like what you hear d/l the track and/or tell your friends.

I built this page for Steve and really want to help him get his music heard.

  4. They promoted this on Facebook too. It said if you're already on the list, to sign up anyway and it won't duplicate, but you'll still get the download code. My email never came.

Did you check your spam folder? Automated response emails like that sometimes get caught in a spam filter.

It is the Civic Opera version from 12/12/2011, btw.

  5. Just decided to revisit this set again. It's one of the best, a must for anyone who collects Wilco recordings. Good banter and great interplay between Jeff and Jay. Those shows had some sloppy charm to them, little imperfections peppered throughout the performance. No setlists, you can hear Jeff and Jay off-mic talking about what to play next. And Jay's musical ideas never ran dry; it's almost as if he was working out new sounds, licks, fills and runs right there in the moment onstage.

I vividly remember attending that show. Sitting in the grass close to the stage. They were only two guys on a big stage in front of a somewhat large and spread out crowd in Welles Park. I think I remember the sun setting behind them as they played. I was so glad when this sbd recording started circulating. It sure is a fun listen and illustrates quite a different era for Wilco/Tweedy.

  6. Thanks, guys. I'm just a lazy, lazy guy, heh heh.

It is a very simple process, especially if you have a Mac and d/l xACT. It will convert FLAC directly to mp3s.

If you do it, think of it like the "pay it forward" principle. If you do it and then share the mp3 version others can benefit. Just like the tapers who "pay it forward" by taping the show and sharing their FLACs with us.

  7. I was SO impressed by Nick Lowe. I googled him and saw he played the Old Town School of Folk music last year and am sad I just learned about him. The guy next to me last night was at the show just to see Lowe. I hope to get another chance to see him.

Yes, Nick has played a handful of times in Chicago the past few years.

I've seen him solo acoustic at Park West and The Green Mill 2008 (also attend by Mr. Sansone), plus full band at Old Town.

I talked to him after the Monday show and he said that he was working out a U.S. tour for the Spring of 2012 and that Chicago would most likely be on the list. He actually asked about other venues that might be good for him. We suggested Lincoln Hall. Later I realized I should have suggested SPACE.

  8. I have a site on virb.com that I like, I probably will keep it around regardless. Facebook and Bandcamp are fine, but having a clean and centralized location for stuff is what I prefer.

Yeah, Virb is great. They integrate with a lot of musician-related services, as well.

Not sure this is well publicized or not, but they are having a promotion to encourage Topspin users to use Virb. The promotion may work for anyone, even if you aren't a Topspin user. First 6 mos. for $5.00.
