  1. Stopped by Plan 9 here in Richmond before work yesterday and was surprised to see Before The Frost on sale, which I immediately picked up.

I can't seem to figure out how to download Until The Freeze though. The address they provide to go to and enter your code doesn't have a place to enter a code. If anyone figures this out once you purchase the album let me know. Maybe they aren't posting it on there until 8/31?

  2. it's hard to watch this rollercoaster. on one hand, i love his music & wish he would keep putting stuff out. on the other hand, he seems to not be dealing with the music business, etc very well & it seems to be affecting his mental state. that might be more important than me enjoying some new songs from him.

Basically this is it. I understand that people have different opinions about his work with the current version of the Cardinals, but he quite frankly has some personal things he needs to address. Anyone who has followed him closely, particularly in a live setting, has to have some knowledge that there are some issues. When he is on not many people can touch this guy for me though.

As folks have said in this thread, he really seemed to have figured out some things in the last few years in regards to focusing on what he was doing. Ironically a lot of people prefer the "roll the dice" Ryan to the "consistent" Ryan.

Regardless, there is no way to determine what he will decide to do. The rollercoaster reference is pretty spot on. He has really added a lot for me and I hope he is alright. Lord nows there is plenty of unreleased material if he wants to "clear out the vaults". Maybe this is a plow to get the box set released!

  3. I think I'm the only person who likes 'Magick.' its a fun song that's very catchy and fulla pop-y goodness.

I think Magick is great! Don't see anything wrong with Ryan doing a trashy rock song every once in a while. :thumbup

As a long time follower of Ryan's music I think it's a nice break from all the sad bastard stuff.

DISCLAIMER: I also like Rock N Roll and the b-sides/outtakes from that era.

    *runs*

  4. Anyone around here gonna be there? I'll be wearing my Wilco Residency shirt as a code to any of you that want to say hi. I'll be there a couple of hours early milling about the Mall and hopefully checking out the soundcheck, Greg

Saw you at the show. I was right behind you but dipped to a dif spot because of frat clowns talking through masterplan. I was wearing a summerteeth shirt. Did you end up going to the fleet foxes show at the black cat? Or has that not happened yet?

  5. The vibe at Friday Cheers shows is pretty horrible. About 80% of the people come out to drink and socialize and could care less about the music. This was no different last night, though those who were there to see Dr. Dog seemed to be fairly enthusiastic and knew most every song.

Couldn't agree more about the vibe at Friday Cheers, but it is pretty bad ass having Dr. Dog or Jason Isbell as opposed to the type of junk they normally have. DBT played last year which was great, but generally it is totally forgetable crap.

Not trying to hijack this into a pro-Richmond thread, but between this the National and Toad's place there are a lot more options than there have been in a while to see decent bands in Richmond. If someone told me last summer that Dr. Dog would play Friday Cheers I would have laughed in their face.

What do you think of Toad's and The National?

  6. What is that on?

allmusic.com apparently doesn't love this one but it may be my favorite thus far.

It's on the vinyl and import cd version of Jacksonville City Nights. The vinyl also has a great cover of I Still Miss Someone and both have a kick ass version of What Sin Replaces Love.

  7. I have to say that this is exactly the type of reaction to leaks/downloading that I was hoping for and that I hope this becomes a trend. The primary reason that I search around for leaks is that I am tired of waiting 6 months for a record to be released.

  8. I would have to side with the artists on this one. I do not understand why anyone needs to talk on a cell phone at a show. Stipe may have been an ass at the show Tenderloin saw. I still don't understand why people are talking constantly during a show.

  9. Today I listened to a veritable fuckload of music.

    Sonic Youth- Sister

    Sufjan Stevens- Illinoise

    Pavement- Slanted & Enchanted

    Pavement- Wowee Zowee!

    Husker Du- Zen Arcade

    Prince- Sign "O" The Times

Neil Young & Crazy Horse- Zuma

    Love- Forever Changes

I'm probably winding down with some Joni Mitchell & then some Nick Drake.

    That's a pretty good list.

    For me....

Radiohead - OK Computer 24 Bit Vinyl Rip
