  1. Brad Rice, who has played in several of Ryan Adam's bands and played on the last Son Volt record, was playing with Keith Urban on last night's SNL. First of all - yuck. I would not be the most accurate judge of Keith Urban because I absolutely hate corporate country radio, but this guy is a joke. Over and over he posed with his guitar like he was playing all the licks while Brad Rice and two other guitar players played all the actual notes.

I'm a bit of a Ryan Adams fanboy and I've probably seen Brad play with him 6 or 7 times live. Brad was even in Whiskeytown towards the end. I know that Brad has played with Tift Merritt and Son Volt over the past few years, but I was surprised to see him playing with someone like this. On the other hand that might be the best paying gig Brad's ever had, and I wouldn't hold it against him for trying to make some dough. This was still very weird. What's next, Jay Bennett playing with Kenny Chesney?

  2. I'm not even going to try to describe Jeff's amazing performance or how thrilling it was to be a part of such a great crowd. I live in Richmond, VA and have been going to shows actively for 15 years and this simply does not happen at shows. I mean you could hear the crowd tapping their feet on the floor in unison during "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart"! Charlottesville has really turned into THE place to see a show in VA.

On another note I just wanted to mention that when Jeff joked that he was "playing the shit out of these songs" I couldn't agree more. In a way it felt like this could be the last time some of these songs are played in a while. With the emphasis on YHF and Ghost era songs the last 5 years and a new record coming out soon I would expect a totally new set of songs to be played this summer.

Can't wait regardless and thanks again Jeff.

  3. Stunning record. $1000 Wedding and Stella Blue are close to perfect, and the six originals are gorgeous. The band does tend to drown out Willie's frail voice at times, but the mix is generally spot-on. Nice production, intuitive playing, lovely songs.

(And this does sound like Cold Roses. Those big guitars are on loan from Magnolia Mountain.)

Agreed. I was listening to $1000 Wedding on the way home from work today and realized that the Cardinals were playing Emmylou to Willie's Gram. Great stuff.

  4. The original TTN isn't circulating and has only been heard by those who made it and others in the Neil Young circle.

There could be a bootleg from the sessions, but it is definitely not the 'original' TTN. That could be being saved for the second volume of Archives, if and when they get released. In fact, since it was made in 1973, it should be the on the first or second disc of that set, since the first volume is said to finish with 'War Song', the single Neil and Graham Nash put out in 1972.

Sorry for starting a fight :D

I just wanted to hear studio versions of Traces and Bad Fog Of Loneliness :P

  5. I happened to see an mp3 request on oink for an mp3 version of the Tonight's The Night acetates. The request had a link on oink to a flac version of said acetates. Of course that torrent is dead.

Anyone know if these are circulating or not? I was trying to wait until the archives releases to listen to some of the unreleased studio stuff from this period, but I do not believe I am going to live to be 200 years of age :D
