Just finished watching Withnail and I. Been a long time since I've seen it.
-

-

-
01 DJ Shadow - Endtroducing
02 Nas - Illmatic
03 The Roots - Do You Want More?!!?
04 Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory
05 Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers
06 Notorious BIG - Ready to Die
07 Talib Kweli & Mos Def - Black Star
08 Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt
ummm....
as i mentioned in the other thread, i keep meaning to check some more stuff out but never do. maybe i'll do some illegal downloading.
-
he looks like a weird cross between george clooney and the kid from American Pie who did it with the pie.
-
Not as much as I would like. I go through phases where I intend to buy much more but never do. It's probably about 5% of my collection, although it was a lot more when I was younger. I was into commercial rap when i was about 14, now it's more of the old skool and underground stuff.
DJ Shadow's Endtroducing, Jurassic 5's first EP, The Roots Do You Want More?!?!!!, Tribe's Low End Theory and Nas' Illmatic are up there amongst my favourite albums of any genre though.
I think part of the problem is I've been working a lot of nights at the bar recently, where the DJs play a lot of really bad rap, speed garage, drum n bass etc etc and it's put me off anything with too heavy a beat!

*jealous*
NP:
Somehow I managed to never hear this prior to today.
i haven't heard that for years, but i remember preferring it to the albums.
That Rogue Wave disc is awesome. I stll don't have the new one. Haven't seen it for sale anywhere and i keep forgetting to order it online.
NP- Fionn Regan - the end of history
loving this.
-
i watched this the other day. so cool.
"i'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy"
-
lol, hey now, i've listened to my fair share of Classical in my day (took a couple classical music courses), just not something that interests me whatsoever anymore, sorry
"That Bach record is ok but not up there with the new m. ward record imo. Probably will make it into my top 250 tho."
-
Of course, photo evidence would be required.
totally i think we could start an indie revolution that would make Sufjan Steven's 50 States project look rather wimpy.

I grew up in a village called Kingswood which was the King's Wood (obviously) around Leeds Castle. My back garden went straight out onto this wood, and this may be why I like this album. I never dressed up like woodland animals though.
sounds like an idea for a VC UK convention. Rich can't come, obviously

NP:
i put this on before checking this tread, for reals. Bought it yesterday and I'm digging it...love the warmth it has. Makes me want to grow a beard (if I was able) and move out to the woods.

Midlake - Trials
-
the Summer Sun album is the only other one i have, and while it's good, it's so laid back it's kind of hard to listen to except when I'm going to sleep.
-
I don't have much YLT, but the double/triple CD set Prisoners of Love was a good intro for me, it includes tracks spanning the length of their career, while the 3-disc set includes a CD of rarities.
-
Take care Gary, I know we haven't chatted in ages but I still consider you a good friend. Shoot me an email sometime when you get chance.
Good luck with all you pursue; I'm sure you, and Spawn, will succeed at it.
-
they have a new record coming out soon actually...
their first 2-3 records weren't too bad actually
I like SCIENCE because it's pretty trippy and heavy, but Make Yourself save 3-4 songs was pretty bland. I like the chilled-out vibe of some of the stuff on Morning View, but anything after that I don't like. It was weird digging it out and finding I didn't just like it for nostalgia reasons.
-
incubus - morning view.
i know...i know. but i went to an 'alternative' night last night and they played wish you were here and it made me all nostalgic and shit.
-
I love MM and this sounds cool, but seeing them live was horrible. They were ok, nothing mind-blowing, but the crowd were the most annoying bunch of underage hipster dumbasses i've had the misfortune of being amongst. ever.
-
weird that at the bottom of the cover it doesn't say Mos Def.
-
that's so awesome. Song's not bad either.
-
Dudes I ACTUALLY OWN THE CD. But a lot of the songs do sound a lot like their influences at the time.
no one listens to that old stuff anymore.

I have Bright Eyes last two discs (excluding that live thing) and like them enough, but I've been reluctant to check out his earlier stuff for some reason. I think it must be the ugly-ass artwork.
