DickDarlington
According to The Ticket (weekly film/music pullout) from The Irish Times Wilco are to be announced as playing Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland at start of September. http://www.ireland.com/theticket/articles/...5003465128.html Its by far the best festival in Ireland, small and also really cool. http://www.electricpicnic.ie/

Given they've no other Irish dates announced yet, this is certainly a possibility and a very welcome one at that. Never been to the "Leccy Piccy" but have heard only good things about it to date. tweedy42
to be honest..as much as I'd like this to be true..I find it hard to believe that :a)wilco will still be in Europe come September, andb)It would probably indicate that Wilco are to do three European tours in the space of 3 months I would say Oxegen is more likely...unfortunately.. Still, fingers crossed for EP
Calexico
Oxygen is probably more likely I would agree. I wish they would do a couple shows outside the shitty festival circuit though. I am too long in the tooth to be roughing it at festivals.
DickDarlington
I would have thought the same only it was The Irish Times, not a tabloid or crappy paper. But yeah I agree that currently it does seem like Oxegen would make more sense.
Calexico
I would like to see them at The Point or somewhere like that. Or preferably in Cork, but that sure ain't happening.
coast to coast
Why would he say they're performing at Electric Picnic if they were playing at Oxegen? I fucking severly hope its not Oxegen cos I'm not going to that (not by a long shot) and it makes 50 times more sense for them to play EP, where there's a small chance people might listen to them and enjoy them. DickDarlington
It is strange how bad a festival Oxegen is and how brilliant Electric Picnic is when thye're both in such a small country as Ireland. Where else could Super Furry Animals have aoustic bingo last year?
Calexico
Is it just me or does Oxegen seem a more corporate event? EP seems to be a better vibe from what I can gather. I'll tel you one thing that is a pain in the arse, living in Cork when every decent gig is in Dublin. However, not even that would make me live in that shit hole. DickDarlington
Oxegen is about putting the Killers on a stage you cant get near or see anything because its overrun by teenage girls. But they have so much money because of the amount of tickets they sell and they're linked with T in the Park in UK, so they can pay the big bucks for bands. Electric Picnic had Arcade Fire before they hit the big time and they wanted them again this year but they said they were outbid by Oxegen and they're offer of a festival in UK and Ireland. Security are also crap, people were abused by them and they're generally very heavy handed and rough, They even shut down the Oxegen message board last year because there were so many complaints afterwards and various journalists were threatened with legal action if they wrote about any of this. Its a place where if you're sitting in the camp site or even at a band you have to be careful who you're beside of coming in contact with cause theres a chance they're trouble with they're 2litre bottle of cider. Electric picnic on the other hand is smaller capacity. If you stood furthest back from the main stage you still have an ok view, everything is close by, its has an older crowd and is far more relaxed and fun. It goes for a sort of 70's feel with acoustic stages etc and promotes Irish bands and comedy, also public interviews last year with bands like Broken Social Scene. And like somebody said earlier, people actually listen to the bands. In reality it would suit Wilco perfectly, maybe even a Tweedy solo gig on the fri or sat and Wilco the next day, people like Damien Rice and other smaller names played twice last year, acoustic on the Fri on a small stage for the smaller crowd who arrived friday morning and then the full band thing on bigger stage on Saturday/Sunday when the big crowd was there. themanwholovesyou
Hope they don't play Oxegen. It's a terrible festival; totally overrun with corporate sponsorship and young kids off their faces on whatever. I think the scum of Ireland just get dumped there for the weekend... EP would make more sense as a festival choice for Wilco but, like others have said, ideally an indoor venue such as a couple of nights in the Olympia or Vicar Street. DickDarlington
Have heard it a good few places now that Wilco are offically confirmed so looks like its true, its all announced at 6 this evening in Dublin
themanwholovesyou
Here's the announcement in full.... Nothing Wilco-related yet... Maybe that's a sign they'll play a "proper" gig indoors at some other time....which is a good thing. THE ELECTRIC PICNIC
