RICHMOND VA (THE NATIONAL OR TOADS PLACE) wants a Wilco show!

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't be surprised to see them at the Charlottesville Pavillion again, there last show there was very good and I'm sure it was made note of. I'm not sure that Richmond booking agents have their shit together enough. Examples: Neko Case, Lucinda Williams, Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams. These are all shows that are upcoming in Charlottesville that could have been at Toad's Place, The Landmark or perhaps even the Canal Club. If these shows were in Richmond I'd probably be going to them all, but I'm going to have to choose. I live less than a ten minute walk from the Landmark and they rarely do concerts there, mostly plays, comedians and other non-music events. The concerts that are there are very rarely loud rock concerts and mostly cater to the R&B or Hip Hop crowd. I'm just saying that I think unless we have a local promoter in mind to harass, I don't anticipate seeing them here. Hell, I'm driving 9 hours to Louisville due to my lack of options.

Really, why don't you like the NorVa? I thought it was a nice venue. I thought for sure Wilco would come back and play there bacause the show was sold out- I mean... that's a good sign! I just thought I'd see them here again. ;)

The first place I saw Wilco headline was the 930 club all the way back in 1997 and since then I have seen them play there 8 times. I have seen them play in a bunch of places all over the country, but the 930 almost seems like home base for seeing a Wilco show to me. Having said that I just don't like how the Norva compares to the 930 in general, particularly in the acoustics department.

Actually I am being too kind. Maybe I'm an audiophile nerd or something, but I think the sound in the Norva is flat out horrible.

On the other hand they do an amazing job booking that place and I sure hope they do the same thing at the National. The idea of being able to see Ryan Adams, Wilco, Death Cab, The Decemberists, etc. here in Richmond is pretty cool.

It's funny you say that about the sound quality, because I was just reading about that and this is what it said: :lol

The NorVa is a music-lover

Hey, the guy from the NorVa just let me know that he was told that the closest Wilco will play to the Norfolk/ Virginia Beach area is Charlottesville... :hmm Too bad I would have no way of getting there. :ohwell

hey, if you can get to Richmond, you have a ride from here. they'll be room in my car. i was thinking (since it probably won't be in Richmond due to The National not being open yet) that it might be at the C-ville Pavilion. good thing about that though is that it's GA, which they don't do too much of anymore.

Hey guys, what's Toad's like and how many people does it hold? I've got tix. for Andrew Bird in Sept.

I was in town this past weekend talking with a fellow up on W. Cary St. and he said they're still working on getting their liquor license in order.

BTW...for any of you who have in the past frequented Starr Hill up in C,ville to catch a show, the venue is no more. :ohwell It's been sold and rumor is that it'll be converted into a "sports-type" bar. I'm still smarting over that one....

I agree about Starr Hill. I was shocked to see it close; it seemed like they always did good business. But the Satellite Ballroom is awesome. Can't wait to see Avett Bros. there on September 21!

The Avett Bros are playing at Toads in September, looks like it'll be my first visit. I can walk along the canals from my house and be there in 20 minutes tops.

Dude, I've been considering that one too. I need to check out more of their stuff. May see you there. Will def. be at the Magnolia Elec. Co. show on the 26th.

the Paramount (where Tweedy did the solo show) was a very nice venue as well.

Hearing all this talk of Wilco hitting C,ville agin this fall, and the possibility of the show being @ the Paramount. Man, that would be amazing.
