shoesgetcold3
Sunday was an awesome music day at the museum of contemporary art in Chicago. They had a huge tent set up and had 6 bands play. I saw Pat right around the time Califone was playing and saw him stay for The Eternals as well. He is a very chill dude who fits in with the scene. He had an old polaroid instant camera and was taking pics (probably for the Wilco photo contest) The music highlights were the 1900's with their 2 female lead singers and androgynous lead guitar player. They were a bit poppier then their first album. I guess they have a new album that just came out. Kot gave it a great review. I am definitely going to check it out, maybe even at their CD release party this week at Empty Bottle. Headache City had a great punk sound that reminded me of early Talking Heads. And the Poster Children who claimed that yesterday was their 20 year anniversary definitely rock. Their bass player Rose has always been a local fav of mine due to her amazing stage presence. The band had family and friends there and definitely made the crowd feel like they were part of the show. Closing was Flosstradamous who got the full tent rocking. I must be getting old because by the time the Cool Kids joined Flos on stage, I was one of the 25 oldest people left. The kids were having a blast right up until the police came with the inevitable noise complaints (curfews do not only happen at Wilco shows) In all it was a great day of music at the MCA. The concert coincided with their 40th anniversary celebration and exhibit title "Sympathy for the Devil, Art and Rock and Roll since 1967." It is a nice show with some cool photos (including a Kim Gordon 80's pic), a real cool Andy Warhol Velvet Underground video, and a room where you walk on albums. Best of all it is free for the next month or so.
Wendy
I made it in for the Califone set, but it was a crazy day in Chicago. Nearly was killed by a runaway RV at a signal light in Plymouth, IN, and got stuck in bad traffic downtown Chicago. Plus it was very very hot and the show was under a clear plastic tent, so I felt like I was in a sweaty greenhouse. I came to see Califone, and it was only 6 songs or so, much too short for me. But I will come back and see the exhibit another time, as it was too crowded and I ran out of time on Sunday. (And I spotted Pat as well ) Sounds like you enjoyed all the bands. I heard only the last couple of songs by 1900 and they were fun.
