cryptique
We're thinking of getting one or two of these to help fuel our morning workouts (we recently joined a nearby gym). Who has one? What do you love/hate about it? Ever work out with it? What are your favorite accessories for doing so (armband, earbuds, etc.)? Also, I don't currently have iTunes installed. Will I have to do that in order to load songs onto the Shuffle? I have a PC, WinXP. Issues? Thanks!
bobbob1313
You will need iTunes, I believe. They are pretty sweet, my mom has one and she got a waterproof case and headphones so she can do laps at the gym. Craziness.

hollow
If you aren't wed to the idea of an Apple product, you should consider another mp3 player for workouts. I have an iPod, but for running, I use one of several mp3 players that we got for almost-free after rebates. They are super light-weight (the weight of one AAA battery), tiny, and use a memory card for the music (not iTunes). What I like about them is that I don't have to worry about them at all - they were cheap, they do what I need them to do, they take a lot of abuse, and they aren't a theft target. The brands we have are Lexar and Creative, but do some searching on the web at SlickDeals.net and sites like that for deals. Nothing wrong with the Shuffle, I'd just rather use a cheap or nearly-free alternative for workouts.
bjorn_skurj
My first-generation Shuffle was the shizznick for workouts. It had the thing so you could wear it around your neck, and since it worked with a flash drive, moving around with it was a non-issue. The new ones I guess you can clip to yourself.ITunes on the PC works fine for me. Think about it -iPods would not have, what, two-thirds of the market share if their stuff only worked on Apples. Edie
You can use Winamp too I think. I do for my newish 4th gen iPod.
ZenLunatic
iPod Shuffle is a good choice for your needs. There are many others also. Dont think ipods are any better than others because its more popular. iTunes is the free software that you can use on your PC without any issues.
hollow
Check out this mp3 player that's a good deal right now (thanks to a slickdeals post): MP3 Player for $10.62 1GB SD Memory Card
kathyp
I use mine mainly for running. The shuffle uses a flash player rather than the traditional hard drive the classic iPod uses, so it's less likely to skip. The Nano uses the flash player, too, I believe. The only downside is, obviously, no screen; ergo, you can't see what you're playing. (Or watch videos, though I really wouldn't want to watch videos on something slightly bigger than a chicklet.) myboyblue
the shuffle is absolutely great for exercising. iTunes is actually one of the perks of iPod. Great software, easy to use, easy to buy (almost too easy). The nano is also good for exercise. Costs a bit more but there is a display.
