anthony
Another Open D beauty. Chords and riff are deceptively simple. Tough part is getting the 'feel' of the song. For the 'D' Chord, I play it severly muted (although there really is no chord here, just Glen keeping time). But for us Living Room Players, this is not an option. So, I like to lay my index across the nutfor this, then slide rock-star style into the G & A chords. Same trick as 'Pot Kettle Black' and 'Cant Stand It' Usual disclaimers apply. Enjoy! Not for the Season - Jeff Tweedy (solo) [ Open D - D A D F# A D (no capo) ] Main riff: D ------------------- A ------------0------ F#------------------- D ------------------- A ------------------- D ---0-2s4-0--------- Riff [ x4 ] D (muted or no-chord, typical) Springtime comes and the leaves are back on the trees again G Snipers are harder to see my friends A Weeding out the weekends Riff x4 D Summer comes and gravity undoes you G You're happy because of the lovely way the sunshine bends G Hiding from your close friends A Weeding out the weekends Riff [ x4 ] G A Candy left over from Halloween D G A unified theory of everything G A Love left over from lovers leaving D G Books, they all know they're not worth reading A It's not for the season /d (open 6th string) [ x4 ] D When autumn comes you sit in your chair and you stare G At the TV square G Hiding in the deep end A Weeding out the weekends Riff [ x4 ] D Winter comes and the days all start late G There's motion on the boughs where the dark shapes prowl G Feeling out the feelings A Feeling out the feeling Riff [ x4 ] G A Candy left over from Halloween D G A unified theory of everything G A Love left over from lovers leaving D G Books, they all know they're not worth reading A They're not worth reading OUTTRO: [ Improvise ! ] Chords: D G A D -x--x--x----------- A -x--x--x----------- F#-x--x--x----------- D -0--5--7----------- A -0--5--7----------- D -0--5--7-----------
MattZ
Thanks for this! I've been messing around with this tune too -- the ST version is sublime. I'd love to hear any thoughts folks have on the improvised outro. As an open D newbie, I have been messing around and watching what Jeff does. Little I do sounds bad when I improvise the outro, but little I do sounds great too ...

cooperissup3r
it's not exactly what he plays...probably not even close, but it sounds pretty good. the last chord isn't right at all. any help there would be great.
Ghost of Electricity
playing hooky from work and am trying this open d tuning for the first time today. on this version it looks like he's messing around with: d------------------7----5a------------------9----7f#-----------------8----6d------------------7----7a------------------0----xd------------------0----x and playing the riff lower: d---------------------------a---------------------------f#--------------------------d-------2s4---0--2----x-----a-------0-------0--0----0-----d-------------------------0-----
