A Wilco mention on the Onion AV Club's Random Rules

Dave Willis (co-creator of Aqua Teen Hunger Force) discusses the contents of his iPod and laments the "dad rock" label while still managing to insult Wilco just a little bit when "Via Chicago" comes around on shuffle:

I did not get his mention of wet socks at all. What does that have to do with it?

I do not think the two stories are related. But I have been wrong before. Not a big deal.

he talks about standing in pouring rain, and then, in the next sentence -- the wet socks. seems unlikely they are unrelated. but i also have been wrong before, probably more than you.......

I did have a moment where it was me and my other two friends who are both in our late 30s, early 40s, and we're sitting there double-fisting beers with garbage bags all over us because it was just pissing rain in Atlanta, and we were listening to something like "Via Chicago." And I was thinking, "I wish they'd pull out that guitar solo at the end of 'Spiders (Kidsmoke),' something that at least merits me sitting here, because I've reached an age where I just don't want to be in wet socks and shoes any more. I'd rather sit under a roof."

 

I don't see what's hard to get about this. He's at an outdoor concert, it's raining, his socks are wet, and he would rather be hearing a song he likes more than "Via Chicago" if he's going to have to sit outside in the rain to listen.
