So my policy went up over $100 for the year with no rhyme or reason. So I called my agent who goes thru Arbella.

I was told the reason for the increase was because of the other markets being allowed into the state. More competition = higher rates. I guess I understand but I have previously tried to get quotes from companies such as aigdirect, Geico and Progressive all of which say they do not offer insurance in Massachusetts yet.

So my questions are...

Has this happened to anyone else (particularly Mass folks)?!? Have you found anything different?!? Any suggestions on what else I could do?!?

once, i moved up the street (here in chicago, about a mile north of where I had been) and my rate went up $400 a year.

MAN!!! Did that one mile land you in Cabrini-Green or something?!? :hmm

That's a really lame ass excuse. So their customer base is shrinking due to competition, and the solution is to raise rates? WTF :blink

no, i was actually further away from cabrini. my zip code changed, though, from lincoln park's to logan square's. But I didn't move to Logan Square, I moved to Bucktown. Which is probably closer to Lincoln Park than I had been before. Anyway, I was annoyed.
