PopTodd
I know that he's a major virtuosic weirdo. I also know that he played with a Camper Van Beethoven side project. What I don't know is where to start. Anyone a fan?Louie B? Bueller? Bueller?
cryptique
I like Vermin of the Blues. Camper Van Chadbourne is fun too.
jff
Camper van Chadbourne might be the best staring point. I've heard 10 or 12 of his albums and seen him live five or six times. He's always been great live, but his albums are a crapshoot. Many of his records sound just plain bad. My favorite album of his might be "Dear Eugene What You Did Was not Very Nice...". Maybe I like that one best because it has a funny recording of him on the phone trying to book a show.
Mr. Heartbreak
Wow, there's a name I never thought I'd see on here. I just saw this guy with Jimmy Carl Black a few months ago. Pretty weird stuff, and interesting, but I really can't help much beyond that; had never heard of him until right before the show.
jff
He does a lot of gimmickry, like playing a banjo with a working toaster as a body, making toast while playing, and then using the toast as a guitar pick. Gimmickry or not, though, his playing is top notch. I saw him in a duo with Han Bennink and he played a lot of fairly straightforward jazz guitar. It was incredible.
