lost highway
It seems they have done a lot of growth, in terms of composition. On () they had a lot of reoccurring themes, and they seemed to be enchanted with their own ability to use certain sounds, song structures and jams to create a mood. Which they did well, but ad. infinitum. I only listened to Takk a couple of times, but it struck me that they were trying very hard to break their own mold and write with some more pop structures and not always relying on the build which bands like Godspeedyoublackemperor and Mogwai seem to fall back on. Listening to this stream, which has little stutters for some reason, I feel like they have flung open their creative flood gates. They still love a good crescendo, but there is so much more sophistication than just dynamics. The instrumentation and little subtle sub-melodies are the kind of nuances that make an album worth listening to repeatedly. I can't wait.
